They do not have to do anything. Wada got 6 IP in his last game and looks ready to go again.

IMO other teams are going to have to make the Cubs do a deal vs the other way around. They are a year out from being legit so unless it is a chin dropper they ate better off holding.

Rule V will work itself out. They lose a guy and he makes it good for him.

See I think they want to stay in this thing and Wada doesn't get it done and Hammel looks pretty ouchy right now. I don't think the FO cares if they win anything but they want these kids to experience a pennant race. I think Ian Kennedy or Dan Haren the like will be here by Friday. That's if they don't work a larger deal which I think is still possible.

I highly doubt anybody wants Castro. Unfortunately 5 managers and countless hitting coaches have already exasperated a seriously flawed player. In fact, he might be one of the worst offensive every day players in the majors. I believe his OBP Is .280, which quite frankly wouldn't even put him at the AAA level.

If we don't find a willing trade partner, I would seriously consider benching him and moving Addison Russell to SS. We can call up Baez to play 2B. I'd like to see Baez get another go of it this year to see if he can cut down on his K's.

Also I'd like to find room for Olt, who is murdering it right now. And we desperately need offense.

if you bench him you kill his trade value, even in the winter, when people will be looking more at his career numbers than his 2015. That makes no sense. I do think they want him gone though and I think he'll be much better for another team at some point.

I would like to see them promote Baez and move him around to give Bryant, Castro and Russel days off. Something like 3B Monday, SS Tue, 2B Wed, maybe CF mixed in.

Cutting Herrera takes care of the 25 man also it opens up a 40 man spot.

Now with Maddon starting to work Schwarber into LF (thank you for that) it looks like they are getting ready for Montero getting back. That is solved with Teg going back to AAA. it puts Cog's out of a job but he is gone next year anyways. It is better to get next year sorted.

That is my take. Do nothing. In the off season make the #1 goal getting a SP. if it is via trade that is fine.

Heh, you were doing fine till you got to the last line. What in the world makes you want to see a guy who's already been up too much given the fact that he's played about 100 games with the Cubs and struck out over 100 times with a very tidy .158 avg. He's not even a real great glove guy...at 27, unless there's some major late blooming...he's probably done.

I'm with you on almost all of that except for the need a for a 5th starter. Someone like Ian Kennedy won't cost more than low level prospect and is a professional pitcher to take the bump every fifth day. I just don't think you can live with an ouchy Hammel and Wada. If Hammel hits the DL this team doesn't even compete and I think these kids need that experience.

I wouldn't be so quick to cut ties with him. You need a bench and he does play a few different spots, I think he's fine as a backup. Think of the crap Maddon has sent up there at times this year to pinch hit...

everyone seems to be forgetting about LaStella who should be back soon. trade castro and some prospects to the padres for ross and kimbrel and then move Russell over to short and LaStella at second. he is known as an OBP guy, which would really help this lineup out a lot.

Det put out they are adding. Cross Price off of the list. They think they are still in it. Sox are waiting til the last minuet. Gray...doubtful he would be marketed. Shields...Cubs already said pass on that.

LaStella is not that good.

On the Olt comment. He is still striking out at a 30% clip. If they are adding a higher SO bat I would rather have it be Baez as he can cover more spots. Olt is hitting more but he is limited as a reserve and the team is suffering from high SO's all ready.

I personally think that they move Schwarber to LF full time when Montero gets back then have Baez rotate around. Move Cog over to a CF platoon with Fowler. This should jump start the O.

I still see it as Wada, Baez and Montero coming back.

Wasnt suggesting for cubs, just throwing out which big name pitchers are left..

Detroit would be fools if they think their gonna compete now. .
Should get what they can for price. .

Sox will trade samardzija after his start tonight..

I threw gray in there only because you never know how crazy beane will get..

Id be shocked if a team trades for Shields unless Pads eats most of salary

he has a .328 OBP which would be replacing castros horrid OBP in the lineup(in my hypothetical trading of castro) so it would be an upgrade in the offense. and defensively youd be moving Russell to short and la stella at 2nd, so the defense gets significantly better as well

Detroit Tigers trade and free agent rumors from MLBTradeRumors.com.

Tigers Still Not Selling, Looking At Pitching; Mike Leake “On Radar”
By Jeff Todd [July 28, 2015 at 12:34pm CDT]
12:53pm: Reds starter Mike Leake is on Detroit’s radar if they choose to buy, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports on Twitter.

12:34pm: At least one club that is selling pitching believes the Tigers to be “actively shopping,” ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick tweets.

12:08pm: The Tigers have informed clubs over the last day that they are still not selling and could look to add arms, Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports on Twitter. That matches up with statements yesterday from GM Dave Dombrowski, who told Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com that his club is “doing everything we can to try and qualify for the playoffs.”

There has been some back and forth on Detroit’s trade status over the last week or so. While an earlier report indicated that the team would be shifting into seller status, and Dombrowski has acknowledged the possibility, more recent indications (including the most recent reports, cited above) are that the decision has yet to be made.

The Tigers have not exactly done much on the field to improve their position. Since exiting the All-Star break, the club has put up four wins against seven losses. As things stand, Detroit is 12.5 games back of the Royals in the AL Central and 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

Obviously, the two major trade pieces that could be had from the Tigers are ace David Price and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. The addition (or exclusion) of either or both to the market will have significant ramifications for other starting pitching and corner outfield trade targets. Closer Joakim Soria could also be an important chip who could have implications for the bullpen market.

ASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Chicago Cubs have made a series of transactions today affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game at Nashville. Right-handed pitcher Dallas Beeler has been recalled to Chicago, Javy Baez has been activated from the disabled list (finger), left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup has had his major league rehab assignment transferred to Iowa and infielder Jonathan Mota has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 27.
Beeler, 26, is 2-5 with a 6.02 ERA (43 ER/64.1IP) in 14 starts with Iowa this season. However, he is 1-0 with a 2.01 ERA (7 ER/31.1IP) in his last six starts. The righty returns to Chicago for the third time this season. It is the first call-up for Beeler this season which is not as part of a doubleheader roster. He is 0-0 with a 6.43 ERA (5ER/7.0IP) with six strikeouts and four walks in two starts for Chicago this season.

Baez, 22, is hitting .314 (44-for-140) with eight home runs and 29 RBI in 37 games for Iowa this season. He was placed on the disabled list June 8 after fracturing his left ring finger.

Baez played in four rehab games for the Mesa Cubs on his way back from injury earlier this week. He went 5-for-12 with a double, and RBI, a walk and a stolen base in 13 plate appearances.

Rosscup, 27, is 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA (11ER/23.0IP) and 25 strikeouts in 26 appearances for Chicago this season. The southpaw started the season with Iowa and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings over two outings with five strikeouts before being recalled to Chicago on April 14.

The left-hander was placed on the disabled list June 17 with left shoulder inflammation and is working his way back on major league rehab assignment. Rosscup started his rehab July 15 with the Mesa Cubs. In two games, he tossed a total of 2.0 scoreless frames with five strikeouts. He was transferred to Double-A Tennessee July 21 and allowed one run over 2.1 innings with seven strikeouts across three outings for the Smokies.
Mota, 28, is batting .252 (59-for-234) with three home runs and 29 RBI in 82 games for Iowa this season.

The I-Cubs continue their 12-game, three-city road trip tonight with the first game of a four-game series with the Nashville Sounds, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. Iowa returns to Principal Park on Wednesday, Aug. 5 to begin a five-game series with the two-time defending Triple-A National Champion Omaha Storm Chasers.
