Beeler sucks. It is pure laziness keeping him around.

Cubs didnt have anyone better then Nick piveta to offer up for papelbon ?

Why i dont read too much into trade rumors, etc..
They had cubs linked for weeks to get papelbon and nationals come out of no where with a weak offer and get him..

Either recent play has made epstein / hoyer backpedal on making any significant trades or the interest was BS..

Could be a money thing. Cubs just ate jackson's contract for next year and in order to get Papelbon they had to guarantee an option year of his contract.

Umm....no

Ya it is. He is the worst of the AAA starters but he keeps getting the call.

Pimentel: 3.17 ERA 1.29 WHIP in 96.2 IP
Roach (seen that result)
Beeler 6.02 ERA 1.55 WHIP 64.1 IP
Paulino 4.71 ERA 1.62 WHIP 63 IP
Wada 3.11 ERA 1.20 WHIP 55 IP

Just saying.... I would get Pimentel. He has had a good season up to date. Beeler is just an arm they are tossing out there. He has sucked in AAA. To me it is just laziness from management.

So ya it is. Even Wada has proven to be healthy by pitching 6 innings. Pimentel last pitched on the 24th. 4 days ago. He could have been used.

As it is they made the choice to pitch Wada on the 28th vs promoting him then tossed Beeler into it instead...just dumb.

2 things. .

I hope they dont use jackson money as excuse not to add anyone of significant for next year..

Papelbon closing games for them next year at 11mil wouldn't hurt..

Wada's been hurt. Roach is no longer with the team and Beeler is the only other guy on the 40 man. If you want to argue Pimentel should be on the 40 man instead fine but that's the reason you keep seeing Beeler. Ideally, Wood would have pitched well enough to keep a roster slot. After that, ideally Wada stays healthy. Where I have a problem is that they didn't even try to get Jackson a shot over guys like Roach and Beeler but whatever. What's done is done.

Closer is a lesser concern. I get the knee jerk reaction to Motte's last 2 games but up until that point he was very solid. Pitchers go through rough stretches.

I want to see them use Ramirez more. Seems that they are babying him in the pen right now. used 8 times over the month he has been back. 5.2 IP 2 ER (1 game) 9 hits, 2 BB 5 SO.

I would like to see them bringing into the closer mix some. His stuff is most likely the best in the pen. Well close to Strop's.

Wasn't exactly my point in original post...

Wheather it were true or not, cubs were supposedly high on acquiring papelbon. ..

Nationals got him for basically nothing, and i believe they asked for that extension to be picked up with salary lowered to 11 mil to make deal..

I was just makibg a point to say i dont really follow what rumors are put out there cause most isn't true or happens. .

Edit : just saw this..money wouldn't of been a factor

@barrysvrluga: Specifics on $$ for Pap: Phils give Nats $4.5M for '15. Papelbon waives option, new deal is for '16 but pays $8M next year and $3M in '17.

Pap wanted to be a Cub. Cubs wanted a starter and a OF bat.

Closer was added all ready with Soriano.

OF bat will be dealt with when Montero gets back.

Even Maddon said they could be looking adding LaStella, Baez and Montero. Maddon said that is like adding a few F/A.

He also feels Soriano just needs more time. Getting the feeling that he is Maddon's choice for closer.

Wada has been pitching in AAA for a month. His last game was 6 IP. he is ready to come back

It's not LAZINESS

It is a GM waiting for the right deal, and not pushing the same panic button used by many fans.

If all they do is what your suggesting here, their not going to come close to the mets, giants, or pirates for a playoff spot.

Not really. They could have kept Richard around in the pen vs demoting him. They pushed the panic button in the trade season and got stuck tossing Beeler out there. Shoot Richard pitched 7 scoreless 2 hit ball today.

There are better options going on. It makes little sense what they are doing right now. Send cash for Richard then risk losing him by sending him down.

The bottom line is Beeler has been ripped apart by major league hitting. And he was running a ERA over 6 vs AAA. Richard was dominating AAA with Pit. Getting by as a Cub and now back dominating again.... Silly really when they could have put him in the pen for that week then had him ready to pitch today. All for a scrub BP arm that has sucked.

Some of the decision process it questionable at best right now. The fact they have not pulled a deal is par.

I can't see them keeping him in AAA at this point. I do not see him traded either.

Soriano has not been attacking the zone. Only 90 MPH fastballs outside then curves in the dirt. That last hit was a meatball right over the plate. He has been locating like shit. His stuff is not good enough to be missing outside then coming down the pipe with a 90 mph.
