The Cubs have 6 losses by more than 2 runs. That is ridiculous at this point in the season.

They are just 8-9 in 1 run games. What they need is some help in the bullpen. Strop is average at best and Cahill is pretty bad. That failed save attempt in Washington was ugly.

All that said, the only team that scares me in October is San Francisco. In a 7 game series, Bumgarner could single handedly win 3 games. That guy is so clutch.

Strop is average? He's having the best year of his career with over 13 K/9 and has his BB/9 under 3 for the first time in his career. The only number even slightly concerning is his HR/9 at about 1 but 3 HR in 30 appearances hasn't exactly hurt this 46 win team. Rondon and Strop are among the best back end combos in the game. Yes the Cubs could use some bullpen help but the only guy that's really had a really tough time is Richard. The rest have all had moments but have been inconsistent. Adding a lefty arm to the pen is really the only need on this pitching staff. Other teams should be so lucky.

They can add that one reliever to help at end of game, it would keep the backend fresh because they wont have to rely on Strop and Rondon for every close games..

Plus starters would only have to focus on getting through 6-7 innings, which will keep them fresh come playoffs..

This is why I'm hoping they can get Miller from Yankees, he can set up and close ...

Come playoffs, having him Strop and Rondon for the 8th and 9th can make it very difficult for oppositions...

The price for Miller would be either Baez, Contreras or Russell....minimum. Still want Miller?

We don't know what they will take for Miller...

Ive seen plenty of players at deadline that everyone thought would cost valuable players get traded for less..

Im not saying the Yankees will dump him for cheap but maybe they will take more the future prospects route then ready.
Plus there always Soler

If we dont want Soler why would they? No demand for a corner OF with .245/17/65 and bad defense potential

The rumour leaked are saying the Yankees want a ton for any of their relievers. They dont have a SS and we have 2 Guess who they will be demanding

Correctamundo. Let the friggin Yankees do their own rebuilding. Don't give them our young assets for some 30+ reliever that pitches to one or two lefty hitters a game. Why do you think the Yankees have him on the block anyway? You don't look to trade players you trust.

IMHO we haven't seen the best of Soler...he is young and slow to develop. I'd guess he probably is the 1st name Theo is offering in any trade talks.

I think Theo would evaluate that price tag for Miller around the trading deadline after seeing what his pen continues to do. Miller would probably be untouchable if the Yankees are still in contention. Oh the excitement of a championship push. They have been very rare in my over 50 years of being a Cubs fan.

I was listening to some MLB expert on ESPN yesterday and he was talking about the Cubs being wildly aggressive at the trade deadline and said dont be surprised if they make a few significant trades, not just tweaking

Will the 41 year old dinosaur Joe Nathan have anything to offer when he finishes his re-hab, supposedly sometime in July ?

Cause he a young cost controlled talent under contract for a few years and can still improve..
Yankees, if they decide to trade.. will want those type of players in return.

Cubs have Schwarber and other options and he probably their best available trade option that they can give up.

I don't really listen to "rumors" about what writers, etc. think teams will take in trades, cause like i said most of the time it not even close.

If Miller, or Chapman high on Theo wish list he going to figure out the best way to land those guys..

Even if it means looking for a third team to get involved

This is their opportunity to get to a WS and a chance to win it,
You do what necessary at deadline to strengthen areas of the team..
Who knows what happens next year or beyond.. injuries, players fall off, etc..

They need to take advantage of this season

You found a way to cram every conceivable cliche into that post

Soler has a very low ceiling and .245/17/65 potential doesnt justify a corner OF position on any serious team

And yet a team will still think he can be better with them...

I thought I read where you were a 50 year fan of the Cubs...if that is true, then you should know better. I've seen this team throw away youth on veteran players over and over again thinking "this is the year". Do these names ring a bell...Heredia, Karchner,Broglio, Clemens, Schiraldi, Nipper,Ruthven, Tabler, Reitz, Ontiveros, Murcer, Renko, Biitner, Paul and Locker. Some of the young talent they saw fit to dump to pick up that list of "stars" were Madlock, Holtzman, Moyer, Garland, Smith, Palmeiro, Eckersley, Sutter, Brock, Caudill, Thornton and North.

I'm positive Eggpants knows and remembers.

Soler's ceiling is a lot higher than that. I'd say something like .285/.330/.500 with 35 HR potential is his ceiling. His floor is probably .250/.310/.450.

Then we disagree. I dont beleive he is a good or patient hitter and I would eat a bug if he ever got anywhere near 35 HRs. He is a rally killer
