Their system would get gutted. Not seeing the wisdom here
Don't think they care..lol

Add Harper ,theyll have a potent offense for this postseason

They'll have 3 months to renegotiate or at least showcase themselves to 2 of the top young FAs this offseason

1 year/$21.625M (2018)
re-signed by Washington 5/13/17 (avoided arbitration)
award bonuses: $0.1M each for All-Star, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger. $1M for MVP ($0.5M for second place in vote, $0.25M for third, $0.15M for fourth, $0.1M for fifth)
at signing, largest-ever salary for arbitration-eligible player

He is making 3.6 mil per month. Signing him with out killing pay roll fucks them into 50% when they need to go over to retain their team. Shaw walks they are screwed 100%. So they need to be able to drop to 20% because they are fully expecting to pay these guys.

So I'm a little surprised in what we haven't seen the cubs do which is trade for any IFA slot money. While it's true they aren't over their amount right now, there's still a very interesting prospect in Victor Victor Mesa who still hasn't signed. I suppose if he hasn't signed yet we may be waiting until the offseason at which point trading for money now isn't really required. But I kinda figure the cubs would be in on that boat at some point.

I think the team is pretty good as is honestly.

Option to keep Cole.

Yu hopefully healthy.

Smyly Replaces Wilson

Try to rebuild Chatwood up. I honestly feel he still has potential. They need to fix his mechanics.

Maybe a legit set up is it. Edwards can get sketchy.

Think were gonna see some changes to the lineup..

Machado and Harper are options..
Probably look for a guy that can hit at the top..

Maybe they move a position player or two like Russell Happ etc. , for a young controlled TOR type like DeGrom if Mets make him available in offseason..

I dont know, i just think Theo gonna change things up a bit

And as if I queued this comment up with knowledge.... today in bn's daily prospect update luke mentioned this jesse sanchez article https://www.mlb.com/news/update-on-cuban-phenom-victor-victor-mesa/c-287472096

which mentions this...

Who has the most bonus pool available for this signing period?
Social media exploded with speculation that the $1 million in international pool money the Mets acquired from Oakland in the trade for Jeurys Familia would be used to sign Victor Victor when he becomes eligible to sign. The truth is, of the seven teams with the most pool money still available, the Mets rank seventh with approximately $1.3 million remaining.

The teams with more money than the Mets are the Orioles -- who have traditionally stayed out of the Latin American prospect market -- with their full $5.5 million allotment remaining. The Marlins are next with $4.1 million, followed by the Cubs at $3.05 million, the Dodgers at $2.7 million, the Rays at $1.96 million and the Mariners at $1.5 million.

I personally would do is retain Hamels. Then pull Q’s option then trade him for controlled players.

Hendricks same thing trade him for controlled.

That point I have Lester, Yu , Hamels and 2 rotation spots. 1 I would let Alozay fight for 2nd depends how I feel about Smyly. I feel that he if 100% I’m going that direction.

After that I would pack Chatwood and Happ together and try to pull back something.

So my roster is Schwarber/Almora/Heyward/Bryant/Russell/Baez/Rizzo/Contreras still. Bench is Bote doing main UI. Zobrist in his last year. Think LaStella still in fold.

This sorts the team better.

Now the big issue is the pen but my investment would be Britton. That is the target I would shoot for. Other arms would be more so 2 inning arms.

That is not a contending rotation. You don't even have two question marks, you have two gaping holes.

Pre injury Smyly was on a career year. I believe that we struck gold with him.

Alozay is a concern for sure. That is why I posted all of those bring back trades. Bolster the farm and upper level pitching.

I’m accually behind resigning Chavez. The idea of Clechik, Morrow, Britton as your hold/save squad and 5 2 inning types holds value.

Rotation wise they need a young starter and need to start filtering in MLB ready starters. Rotation is getting older. Even if they start in the pen first as a 2 inning guy. Cream rises.

Interesting..
I said this 2 months ago and got ripped lol

I suggested they would keep 1 of Quintana or Hendricks and suggested theyd keep Q and trade Hendricks

Now on retaining Hamels, it would obviously come down to how he finishes this season but i doubt they retain him...
Lester and Darvish are obvious returners and pricey..
They have to decide on Chatwood who has 3 yrs remaining and picking up Quintana option..
Hendricks is basically if they have faith in him to recover or would prefer to use him in a trade..
Montgomery is also in the picture now
Management will have to determine if there younger and or better options available ..

I personally think there will be some changes offensively and they can also use the ones they move to bring in pitching..

Should be an interesting off season, Epstein will have 3 years left to win another Championship on this contract.

I believe that they need to approach things differently. They have tried to self develop and failed. Then now sign f/a and that has failed. Their biggest success has been targeting guys like Arretta and Feldman

I agree...

Which is why next year i can see them going with Darvish and Lester at the top, and maybe Hamels if he has success and because it his final year.
Then because there noone ready in their system to step in now, they will make deals to bring in young arms ..

I just dont see management bringing back the same SP and offense..

Maddon (final year) and coaching staff may get a hard look too..
Epstein has 3 yrs left on his deal, so if he not considering an extension for Maddon after next season then it would probably be best to bring in his new guy for 2019 and get at least a 3 yr deal for him over just 2 yrs.
