Olesz' future

9:25AM ET

Rostislav Olesz | Blackhawks

Placed on waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks, the future of Rostislav Olesz appears murky. However, it's clear the 26-year-old should look forward to more playing time with Joel Quenneville's squad.

"He didn't get a ton of opportunities," the head coach said, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. "His opportunity was limited, but I guess sometimes you earn your opportunity as you go a long here. His production, you could say he hasn't produced probably at the rate -- and I'm not necessarily just talking production -- but his overall game, maybe we were looking for more."

In other words, Olesz has been nothing but a big disappointment since joining the Blackhawks as part of the Brian Campbell-to-Florida trade.

It's possible another team will claim Olesz before noon on Thursday. The winger's $3.125-million cap hit isn't as monstrous to teams just hovering above the salary floor. If not, the former seventh-overall draft pick (2004) -- a healthy scratch on 12 occasions already this season -- appears headed for the Rockford IceHogs. In which case, the Sun-Times suggests Ben Smith should be on his way up to play with the big boys shortly.

WE STILL HAVE A HALF HOUR DON'T JINX IT!

I keep forgetting the Blue Jackets need something to go with their overpayment of Wiz.

Plus-- I'm reading the tweets of very intelligent people... y'know Twitter-- the end all be all of reporting... and back pedaling.

That's a difficult question to answer.

The NHL swooped in pretty quick to move Atlanta-- so it's anyone's guess.

I'm convinced that Columbus is content doing everything in it's power to make them look as movable as possible.

Olezs cleared waivers.

No surprise.

Maybe someone will take him in re-entry. Or maybe they eat his contract in Rockford.

Or maybe he finds his game while riding the bus and comes back to contribute.

Wasn't he just a throw in on the Campbell deal anyway?

If they were going to eat Campbels, 7.1 We had to agree to eat Olesz' 3.125

i doubt we bring him back up for re-entry...unless we want half the cap hit.

Depends on which is worse, the buy out or the Half cap hit. Buy out is twice the length of the remaining contract.

Funny not one of the other 29 teams wanted to take a chance on him at 3.2 mil. Not really, he was what he was.

Honestly, if the Hawks can get that 2nd line center to bolster our other lines, then I'd say buy him out. More cap space = better chance at something big. Sure the money will be tough to swallow in the short term, but why not? If the Hawks can get a 2nd Cup since 2010, then it will be worth it.

What's wrong with the 2 centers employed at the present time?

Nothing at all... but it never hurts to have more options in case things arise. Plus, it never hurts to have STK again.

I guess that's an argument for later, LOL....
