Hammer had like 6 blocked shots last night, he's not an offensive D-man, he's doing what he's always been best at.

Hammer is not, and never will be an Offensive D man. I don't see why we are ready to throw him under the bus.

As for xbox GMing - What do you think about getting iggy for the rest of the season, his cap is 7 mil so he might be too expensive but this is the last year of his contract and Iggy isn't staying with the flames, he wants his name on the cup.

Iginla still has a year left after 11/12. FYI.

Just because we have room under the cap why does everyone assume we have to spend all the way up to it?

Seeing our depth from both sides of the Hawks organization I don't think there is anything else needed at this point that is a glaring deficiency.

Someone remind me how the team is ranked so far this season?

I figured as much... and that's fine. I just wish there was a good 1-yr rental out there to pick up for any potential runs down the stretch.

There are some potential good 1-year rentals. It's still too early to know if Colorado and Carolina will continue to struggle and be sellers - but if they are:

Milan Hejduk - expiring contract at $3M cap hit

Tim Gleason - expiring contract at $2.75M cap hit

The Hawks could easily handle both those contracts and still have a little left in the kitty for a rainy day. Hejduk has a NM clause so he would have to agree to the trade ... but if the Avs are out of it maybe he'd like a chance to win another Cup. I've watched a bunch of Avs games this season and Hejduk looks like, even at 35, he's still got wheels and top-6 skills. Gleason would certainly be an upgrade over the #6 Dman triumverate we have right now. Package Bickell, Lepisto and some prospects/draft picks and overpay a bit if neccessary. Then win the division and go into the playoffs with this lineup:

Stalberg-Toews-Hossa (for all you Stalberg haters - replace him with Morin)

Sharp-Kane-Hejduk

Carcillo-Bolland-Frolik

Brunette-Kruger-Smith

(Mayers)

Keith-Seabrook

Gleason-Leddy

Hjalmarsson-Montador

(O'Donnell/Scott)

Crawford

Emery

I wonder if we could pry Hanzal from the Yotes and what it would take to get him.

I'd prefer Shane Doan near the deadline. Doan's a UFA after this season on a franchise that does not have a pot to piss in. At 35 he's a perfect rental and could be convinced to waive a no trade clause.

He's got some history with JT from the Worlds several years ago.

I was watching NHL Network last evening, and they were talking about management shaking things up.

Which means I get to talk about my Jussi Jokinen man crush. He's a guy that can still (at this point) pot 20 goals at a price tag of 3 million. He's been hurt a couple times, but it's a price tag that won't choke the cap, and give the Hawks options for a role playing stay-at-home blue liner.

It won't happen, but just my XBOX $0.02.

Isn't he out right now with injury?

Update: I didn't realize until after I posted my "Hejduk" post that he was just made Captain ... not that that means it's a definite "NO", but it's less probable now that they put the "C" on his sweater.
