My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Additionally, Matthews writes that the Cubs' asking price for Matt Garza is "out of the question" for the Yankees. He says the Cubs want at least two and possibly all three of Jesus Montero, Manny Banuelos, and Dellin Betances.

I am glad the Cubs demands are ridiculously high given what is left on the starting pitching market and several contending teams desperate for top of the rotation starting pitching. This is the move that has to reset the direction of the franchise because Garza has the most trade value of anyone on the Cubs (except perhaps Castro) and the Cubs are not going to spend their way out of their problems.

Well if the stakes are this high..

It's going to go quite a bit to reshaping the franchise.

Well I don't know if Montero and Banuloes is market value. That would be a lot more than the Cubs gave up to get Garza last year and that is a better return than what the As got for Gio Gonzalez.

I heard it was down to Tigers and Blue Jays... obviously just hearsay but who do you guys like there?

From the Tigers Turner is an absolute must. I think we can get Turner and Porcello, but we might(as Dabs and I have talked about) throw in something extra. If it isn't Porcello, I want Turner, Smyly, and a young CIF prospect. Low minors with upside.

We've talked about it by reading the tea leaves about the Tigers possibly flipping Porcello for a 2B and hey we got this "awesome" 2B that plays good defense and hits for a high average. I have yet to read a single source that has stated the Cubs would add to Garza in a trade.

That said getting Turner and more is probably the best haul since the Jays arms collectively might wind up better but you are taking a big risk since they are farther away.

I've read that for Nick Castellanos to be in there, we'd have to throw in something extra, I'd assume the same for Porcello. I'm not really sure how the DET FO values him though. To be fair, we haven't read anything saying that we wouldn't add Garza. I think it's open-ended. As for the haul, yes Turner is the best we're gonna get. I think that a package with Turner is automatically better than the BJ's package because he has the high upside.

If they got Turner straight up for Garza it sounds like an even trade to me...anything more is a steal for the Cubs, but everything has to start with Turner. The fact that there are rumors of "multiple teams" and that some of them are willing to give up a king's ransom are encouraging though.

demand and preference...garza is our best trade commodity..he's a pitcher...and he's getting alot of attention from potential suiters like the rays, padres, and the yankees

Turner will start the package... and does seem the Tigers will include him in a Garza trade. There would have to be more. If the Cubs don't get what they want, keep him and sign him to an extension.

Turner straight up for Garza is not even close. Look at what the Nats gave up for Gio. You don't even have to look at what the market is doing to know that that is a bad trade. Look at what the Cubs gave up for Garza. We gave up 3 top 10 prospects. Granted none of them were top 15 in baseball, but still.

Turner is worth more than Chris Archer, Hak-ju Lee and Brandon Guyer and Gio Gonzalez is worth more than Matt Garza.

You can't compare Garza to Gio Gonzalez or Mat Latos though. The latter two are younger, comparable pitchers, and have more years of club control. That's why Garza's value is lesser.

I would take Turner and a prospect from lower down on the list and do the deal. If we add Turner and Wood bounces back we will have a nice young core of pitchers.

Sure, they have more club years, but Garza is a better pitcher than both of them. So while yes, Garza's value is lesser, he's actually a better pitcher. And if you think for a second that Theo isn't going to say to Dombrowski, hey look what Gio and Latos went for, you're crazy.

No way Turner is worth more than Archer, Lee, and Guyer. In reality will Turner be worth more than those 3, hell yeah. But when Theo is negotiating, he's going to say look we gave up 3 top 10's for Garza. We're going to be getting at least 2 top 10's back from them.

Turner is a top-25 prospect (#21 pre-2011, probably higher ranked now). The package Cubs gave up for Garza had a bunch of good guys, but Archer was highest at #27 before 2011, HJ Lee was at #92. Guyer wasn't ranked. So in a sense dabynsky was correct. The Cubs' top 10 was unfortunately not all that good compared to some other organization's top 10s so you cannot directly compare them that way.
