Marlins aren't a fit. Only way I'd do is it in a package for Lomo. But that's not gonna happen and Theo wants young pitching anyway. Tigers make too much sense.

The Marlins don't have much in their farm.

I'm liking the thought of Turner and Porcello. But I think the Cubs could be throwing in a 2B for them(Barney??) and getting another piece.

That would certainly be an interesting trade if the Cubs moved Garza and Barney to net two young SPs that are major league ready in Turner and Porcello. Definitely have the feeling that Barney isn't thought of as highly in the current FO and the plan may indeed be to move Stewart to 2B if they can grab a 3B.

That seems like a defensive downgrade as Stewart's defensive stats aren't that great at 3B...?

That said I'm still all for trading Barney :D

Barney is clearly the superior defender, but his approach at the plate doesn't jive with the current FO's philosophy. I am just spitballing along with CO when we talked about the possibility of moving Barney with Garza to try and net two major league ready arms.

I'm all for swindling the Tigers. I was arguing that Ian Stewart moving from 3B to 2B would not be ideal whether or not Barney was still in the mix.

Ideal no, but living in a dream world where the Cubs could get Headley that would be a significant upgrade offensively with a huge upgrade for the pitching staff for the next several seasons and beyond.

That would be fun on the offensive side I suppose, but if the main plan is to have a defensively-capable team in place then I'm not sure you'd ever want to see Ian Stewart at 2B :D

I really don't know how bad Stewart is at playing 2B. I have just seen and read multiple reports that suggest Stewart is capable of playing I assume at least a Jeff Kent level of 2B defensively.

I sort of see the short-term half-ass contend plan as:

1. Improve defense

2. Improve pitching

3. Get some guys who know how to get on base

4. Pray for good luck

Being that step one is the defense, I think you don't want to convert a slightly defensively-challenged 3B to a premium defensive position at 2B. Just an opinion, I'm sure it could work but seems like Plan E rather than Plan A to me.

Would be interesting to see the return of Al Albuquerque in a Garza to Tigers trade. We unfortunately let him go in the Baker trade.

He would've been like Super-Marmol

I'm not sure if he's healthy, but Albuquerque raped in Detroit after his call-up... look up his stats.

Okay Mr. Baseball, what is Garza worth then? We'll be getting Turner in a deal with them no matter what. If Smyly and Oliver are being mentioned and then more, I think that Porcello is worth the equivalent of a #5 spec in their system and an upside player.

You like Turner and Porcello too. You're an idiot too. Since Dewey didn't tell you that, I feel obliged to.
