I could see it happening soon or at the deadline.
I'm suprised. I see Garza as a solid two, fringe 1
I think Garza and Byrd will be traded soon especially Byrd. I doubt either one will be on the opening day roster.
I go back and forth on how likely Byrd will be here. I really think the Cubs want to keep Jackson in AAA for at least a month or two, but I don't know if Theo could really make Sveum play Campana in center for a month.
I think they'll try to keep him down to get a seventh year of club control but that's about it. I also think Sappelt might make the team over Campana.

I keep forgeting about Sappelt. It will be interesting to see. This team certainly has gotten a lot younger, quicker than I thought they would. I am curious to see how aggressive the Cubs are for Cespedes.
Dave Sappelt would play over Campy IMO and we did resign Reed Johnson. But it could go either way. I just dont get why we start Jackson and platoon Sappelt.
I wonder if they bid on Soler instead since he's younger.
For the exact reason Rice stated, another year of control by delaying the arbitration clock.
Cubs execs Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are alarmed by the lack of minor league talent in their own system, so trading Garza might appeal to them. The Yankees, one possible suitor for the right-hander, have had concerns about Garza’s ability to handle New York in the past, Rosenthal reports.
That would piss me off as a player. Not just losing the year but life in the minors sucks compared to the bigs.
So how long to they have to stay down for the year to be delayed? Rizzo and Jackson will be fun to watch when they get the call.
Rizzo makes sense to start down there regardless try to bulid some trade value for Lahair.
To answer your first question to avoid three full years of service from happening it would only take a week or two I believe. The issue is that I believe there is still "super two" status which is something like the top 15% of guys with between 2 and 3 years of service are granted 4 years of arbitration. It would probably be around the end of April or early May before either is called up at the very earliest.
As far as LaHair building trade value, I really doubt any team is going to offer anything substantial unless LaHair puts up numbers for more than a few months. I think LaHair's value is going to be if he shows to be a legitimate corner bat that the Cubs could move him to left. That might not be in the offing since he would be a below average fielder and Theo has made it clear improving defense is a priority, but that is the only way I see LaHair getting enough at bats to really prove to other teams that he is worth anything.
I suppose so, the date for that is around April 20th isn't it?I think the 7th year of club control is more important than Super Two to be honest. Super Two just means you have four big paydays (relatively speaking) instead of three in arbitration. If that happens then that pretty much means Brett Jackson was good enough at baseball to stick around.

Dunno. I expect they'd just do what they did with Castro and call him up in May.
