Probably which would be that late April, early May timeframe I talked about earlier.

Pretty much. Castro got called up in early May and IIRC he wasn't even close to getting Super 2'd.

On the Garza front, I'd be really really surprised to see him here another week. He has to be traded at some point. He does this team nothing by being on the roster.

might hold onto Garza until the trade deadline imo. might not get our asking price now, but the trade deadline, someone might get desperate and go beyond what we're asking

same thing with byrd

soriano is the only one i can see that is a must trade before the season starts

I still think we need to hold onto Garza. He's far too valuable for us and like I've said before, unless somebody absolutely blows us away with a deal, I'd like to try and resign him to a long-term deal. Giving him five or six years wouldn't scare me.

I still say we need to hold onto Soriano for a little bit longer and try to have him build some value over the first two months of the season. Hopefully he can get hot, and a team who suffers an injury or desperately needs some pop in their lineup gives us something worthwhile in return.

I think one would have to kiss Theo and Jed's feet if they could actually make Detroit meet their demands.

What it said...
The Tigers appear to be willing to meet the Cubs’ asking price of multiple highly-regarded prospects, according to Kaplan. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported last week that the Tigers could move right-handed pitching prospect Jacob Turner in the right deal.

Rather take Oliver or Crosby over Smyly TBH, hoping Castellanos though.

Sent a tweet to Kaplan, let's see if I get a response.

Right, I think they'll get a good haul of prospects back, even if it's not Turner. I think the Turner inclusion is just Kaplan's conjecture, but if it's true, then the Cubs just ripped the Tigers off.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that if they can get the kind of prospect haul that would help revamp the farm system that they should make this trade, but if Garza's gone from the rotation, are there even five capable, major league ready starting pitchers in the organization? I know they're not going anywhere next year and they need to build for the future, but I'd still like to see some semblance of competitiveness once in a while next season.

The Tigers farm system isn't one that's ranked near the tops in baseball, but if they offer Turner and a couple PTBNLs (I'm talking guys with .001% chance of hitting in the majors), you definitely have to MORE than consider the offer.

Now we find out how "excellent" these sources are and how far "down the road" the Cubs and Tigers really are in these talks. For all we know the Tigers could be laughing at the Cubs before slamming down the phone (or whatever the cell phone equivalent is these days)

LOL, Lefty wants Selig to investigate the Rizzo trade because he thinks Byrnes is cheating the system to help Theo or something lollolol.

It's obviously a conspiracy to turn the Padres into the Cubs' AAAA affiliate now that Pittsburgh doesn't want to play anymore.

If they REALLY wanted to do that, they would have given us Headley for nothing, while they were at it. :D

Kap thinks the "down the road" means they're past the initial stages and now they're holding hands and swapping phone numbers.

Rosenthal thinks Turner is in play but Castellanos might not be so easy.
