I said they were both young stars  That would be true, Dirk made the all-star team in his 4th NBA season. Castro I guess in his 2nd MLB season, 4th professional.

Do you really not get how much larger of an impact on the game Dirk has compared to Starlin Castro?

Yeah but if you take dirk off the mavs and take Castro off the cubs the mavs will fall much further than the cubs.

I LOVE Castro but Dirk is much closer to an A-Rod than a Castro.

I'm not trying to compare sports, I'm comparing owners

Both of whom who had significant interest in purchasing the Cubs.

I call bullshit. If we didn't sign him, people would have bitched, we did sign him at a discount, and people *****.

Depends on what he did with the other team he signed with and how much money he made.

I wouldn't call $18M a year for a pitcher like Z a discount when Cliff Lee signed for $20M a year in 2010-11.

Lee signed as a free agent this past offseason for 21.5 million average per year over 5 years but that doesn't include the fact that he has a team option for 27.5 million in 2016 or a 12.5 million buyout.

And clearly the word discount was in reference in terms to his value at the time of signing the extension and not now. The Zambrano that signed the contract extension was worth 18 million a year. Unforunately he is no longer that guy.

It is much easier to be an impact player in basketball than in baseball due to the fact that you can concentrate all your offense into one guy instead of having to wait his turn. It's apples to oranges.

I'd take Lee's paper over Zambrano's paper easily. The difference in worth between Zambrano and Lee is greater than $15M in value.

Yes clearly Lee is better now, and is worth more. That isn't what the argument was. Zambrano would have likely gotten more money in the offseason if he didn't sign the extension for 18 million a year. That is why people see he signed for a discount at the time. Unforunately it didn't work out, but unlike the Soriano deal where everyone knew how that would end the fact that Zambrano would move from being a top of the rotation to a back of the rotation type starter by age 30 is a little harder to believe.

Agree 100%. I was saying both Castro and Dirk were young all-stars on their respective teams and leagues. I don't see where I'm wrong in that but

The only reason I even compare Cuban to Ricketts is because both wanted the Cubs.

Z can still be a 3 pitcher on a good team. Z's head and emotions were the problem.

You can't compare a basketball owner to a baseball owner that directly though, especially given that it's much easier to make the playoffs in basketball than it is in baseball.

I'll use their records to judge them based on movement of players and resources. Granted it's not fair, but life isn't always fair.

Right now, I'm led to believe the Ricketts don't have the resources to compete at the MLB level. I hope I am proven wrong.

Plus Ricketts was a dick at Wrigley last week :shifty:
