Cross another outfield target off next year's list, Silence.

Matt Joyce traded to Anaheim for pitcher Kevin Jepson.

Shoulda signed Markakis......

Rather target Aoki. He fits the team needs more.

You'll see how much better at basically very similar dollars to Hammel he'll be

Maybe. I don't think so though. I watched him pretty closely with Boston and in SF. Hitters will catch up. They might adjust to Hammell too but that'll just be a regression to the mean. For Peavy I think it will be end before that contract is done. One man's opinion.

Don't get me wrong though, Hammell is a #4 starter being asked to be a #3. I have no illusions.

Both are #4's in the league. No point arguing who is the better bottom of the rotation.

Padres are getting Justin Upton.

They will play the man with two arthritic hips in CF.

What could possibly go wrong?

Lester is a #1 but he's not #1. I see the same with Peavy/Hammel

No, my point though is that I seriously doubt Peavy will make 10 starts. I think he's very close to done. I've been wrong before though.

It's really difficult to understand what they're doing. They've raided a very good farm system to pick up some "names" but it's difficult to see how the pieces fit. It looks like the wing and a prayer plan and with the Dodgers and Giants in that division that would not be the plan I would choose.

Well, they should have OF's available, depending, of course, on what they're sending to the Braves. And I would think the braves have to be getting an OF back.

But they now have Wil Myers, Matt Kemp and Justin Upton as their OF. It will be 2 men in LF, one in RF, and try not to let anyone hit it to CF.

They have 8 OF's and 3 catchers.

Pads LF line is short. That park can be exploited by RH pull hitters.

I think Hammel was being honest when he said he felt comfortable last year as a Cub. He put up career changing production. Let's see how it plays out.

It's nutty really. Nothing fits. There sure are bats, but ones with question marks and as you say no one to play CF. I'm mystified. I mean you can't seriously play Kemp in CF with arthritic hips can you?

Oh I can definitely be wrong, but I think Peavy is a much, much safer bet with much, much higher upside.

I thought the report has been that the hips have presented no troubles at this point. Perhaps it's just the beginning and it will take years before it shows physical signs to Kemp and his play.

I am actually somewhat relieved to read that David Ross has signed with San Diego.

I look forward to a Montero / Castillo platoon. I have hopes that Castillo improves. I have certainly not been his biggest fan, but I feared he would be gone for next to nothing in return.

Is framing something a kid has to be born with? Seems like some C are good, some aren't. But if Montero is one of the best, it would seem logical he could help Castillo improve. It's more a mindset than anything. It's not like I am asking Rizzo to simply make junior Lake a great hitter.

I read earlier that the Cubs were expected to be making moves today.

I didn't expect them to be Clayton Kershaw or anything. But tonight I see we got Ryan Lavarnaway, Shane Peterson, David Ross (who had reportedly signed with SD this morning) and they are awaiting a decision by Craig Breslow.

I am not against them making these moves, but I think we can safely say the word "blockbuster" would not be necessary.

What's the question mark about Justin Upton? Kid is a great player.

Am i the only one who not overly impressed right now with the cubs overall acquisitions ? Besides Lester nobody else really wows me or makes me glad we got them.

Hammels, montero, Lastella, motts, and ross arent exactly game changers and making me cant wait to see them play. .

Im sure their going to be looking into their trade offers now for Castillo, i just hope it brings in a decent needed bat for lineup
