I know there is all kinds of problems with the lakefront location and all kinds of problems with the stadium itself and all sorts of inevitable inefficiencies due to the arrangement.

But I say fuck it. Great cities spend resources to preserve tradition. Sometimes the expense is worth it. and imo, they need to figure it out cause the bears belong at soldier field.

well back in the day wasn't one of the main issue was the city politicians wanted those ghey looking colonades to be incorporated into the stadium?

Bears need to go where they have free reign to design the stadium to meet their needs and not be hogtied again trying to fit some fugly ass pillars into the design.

Actually, it was The Friends of The Parks that insisted on the columns being kept

Why should the McCaskey’s spend their money to fix a stadium they do not own?

They don't have to fix it they could have simply bought land in the city and pushed the city for a better deal on taxes and everything else but didn't want to take on that burden so they passed it to the city . The problem is that they asked for that stadium renovation and now they are complaining before their lease is even up.

The Bears at the time contributed 200 million but then you later find out that 100 million actually came from the NFL ,then 70 million from seat licenses ,and so the McCaskey's themselves only put up 30 million for a stadium that they don't have to pay for any upkeep on .

The taxpayers paid 432 million so forgive me when I say the taxpayers should not be bailing them out again and that they should actually put the some real skin in the game and stop trying to fleece the taxpayers .

There was just a huge parcel of land sold just a few blocks from Soldier Field but when you have small players owning a big market team this is what you get

There is some land in the south loop that Metra owned that they recently sold a few years ago, why didn't the Bears buy that land? It sat undeveloped for decades, now they want to leave the city. Thank God the city still has the Sox, Cubs, Bulls, and Hawks. Could you imagine driving 30 minutes on a highway to watch a Cubs-Sox crosstown game? Well that's how it's going to be for Bears-Packers games.

The old Michael Reese Hospital was vacant and available for the last 10 years before being sold last month for a planned 3.8 billion development project .

At the end of Lakeshore Drive at 80th and Lakeshore Drive there is 400 acres vacant its one of the proposed sites for the cities casino but the Bears could have easily got involved for a new stadium complex with cities casino in that boating ,hotels etc . But when you are constantly trying to get out of paying your share.....

Update in a few weeks! Official Bids are in boyz. Supposedly <10 offerings on the table.

Churchill Downs announced the property would be put up for sale back in February. According to various reports the window to make a bid closed on Tuesday, and now Churchill Downs will take some time to review the bids and will provide an update in the coming weeks.

I don't think the taxpayers should be on the hook for any professional sports arena/stadium.

For your place of residence, sure.

Schaumburg/Arlington Heights is a mini metropolis. It's really a primo location for a stadium and would draw a new set of fans who didn't want to drive to the city for home games.

As a guy who used to drive an Uber in the summer, it was always 30 or so minutes driving to a Sox vs Mariners game. For a Cubs game? Forget about it. I'd add much more time when it comes to a Crosstown game.

That Metra property was discussed the last time this whole thing came up.
The problem with it was the roads would all have to be widened..

On the North, Roosevelt road would have to be widened to get traffic to the Ryan. That widening included a bridge over the train tracks to the west of the property.
On the South, 18th street needed to be widened as well, and that included moving the supports for the Ryan.
Clark street also needed to be widened.

When the estimates for all that came in, the people involved rolled their eyes and threw that idea in the trash.

The Arlington site has all the infrastructure in place

Or maybe use all the tax revenue for things people actually need, like housing, healthcare, and education.

Or be smart and invest tax money in something that actually turns a profit like an NFL stadium. Then tax less while having more money for things people need.

Frankly, I don't understand why traffic would be anywhere near the top priority in this.

Building a Football Stadium and its Impact on a City - eSUB Construction Software

"Infrastructure Upgrades a Requirement
To make a stadium construction project successful requires some level of municipal cooperation. A city must build and improve infrastructure that supports large crowds moving to or from the stadium for games. It must establish and enhance transportation routes that shuttle people to events from around the city, expand bus routes, enhance police presence and security during games, expand roadways and sidewalks, and ensure adequate fire prevention arrangements.

The new Yankee Stadium, completed in 2009, required an investment of $220 million from the city of New York to upgrade infrastructure. The City of Portland similarly invested $34.5 million in updating infrastructure when the Rose Garden was built. For each such example of team owners and cities working together, however, we can find a deal that falls through because the municipality is unwilling to invest."
