Obvious Run Downs

RE: Young/Izzy
DT: Ratliff
NT: Paea/Draft Pick
LE: Houston

Passing Downs

RE: Allen
DT: Houston
NT: Paea/Draft Pick
LE: Young/Bass

This DL is so much more talent and deeper than last season.
Izzy moves to DT if he makes team.

so what would be the potential starting d line then?

will young and allen be rotating on the edge with houston on the opposite side..

or will houston slide inside occasionally with allen and young on the edges?

so we basically traded on 69 jersey for another right..lol....

indirectly we got allen and they got wooten...I'm okay with that...

Personally I would have Houston and Young getting the most reps on running downs with Allen spelling them on early downs and getting more reps on passing downs. The question is whether Allen will be happy being more of a pass rushing specialist as opposed to a starter.

Great signing by the Bears here. Makes the Willie Young move seem a bit odd in retrospect(however it makes the Peppers move make a ton more sense)......nonetheless a really nice move by Emery. If the Bears can get a DT in the draft, especially in the 1st round you have to like what they've done with the line.

Do you think that Young makes more sense as rotational than a starter even at 4 million? If the Bears can get back to rotating their D-linemen the way they were doing from 2010-2012, shouldn't Young get plenty snaps to warrant a 4 million dollar deal as a swing rotational type? I thought a big part of the Bears success up front, & part of why I thought Marinelli was able to have a lot of success up front was because of how kept a constant rotation up front that helped alot in keeping people fresh over 4 quarters.

DT is still concerning but I think we need to get youth on the secondary before DT depth. I am not sold on Donald.

Allen starts. Period.

Willie can come on and spell Allen/Houston but NO WAY does he start over Allen. You are kidding yourself if you think jared allen doesn't play majority of snaps.

DAMN.....that is a lot of money for where he is in this stage of his career. I am stunned by this....

Serious? Were you stunned when a worse Peppers got even more? Ware got way more. Bennett from Seattle and M Johnson on tampa got more with a lot less production!

What did you expect? Most all of us expected a tad more

If it's an obvious run play, I'd hope Allen wasnt in. Not trying to hate but the other DEs are better vs the run

I want to be excited about this and the fact that he had 11.5 sacks last year helps. But I sort of feel like, meh, we overpaid a 32 year old guy who won't play out his contract. I guess every quality signing, no matter the price, still gives Emery more flexibility in the draft, but this feels like a desperation move to make up for blowing it so badly with the McClellin pick. Since he's getting roughly as much this year as the Packers are paying Peppers I guess I will be satisfied if he just outperforms him.

Do not look at it as a 4 yr deal worth 32 million...because in reality its only 2 yr deal worth 15.5, thats a little less then 8 million a year for 11.5 sacks. At the end oof two years he will be 34 then the bears can cut him or keep him if he is still playing at that level. This is a great signing

This. People have overblown the whole Allen against the run thing, kind of like people who say Houston can ONLY stop the run and has 0 pass rush whatsoever. We have two legitimate starting ends now in Houston and Allen with quality depth and rotation guys in Young and Izzy.

I'm now thinking they draft a Safety in the first then best available DT in second followed by Corner and TE.

lololololol

Younger than Peppers and got Allen for less money..

Oh, yeah.. By the way- cranked in 11.5 sacks last year on a HORRIBLE Vikings team and D. Peppers was thought to half ass it last year even tho Bears were contending.. Allen still cranks out 11 sacks with a team that sucked bad. lololol. Overpaid my ass- this is perfect.

The dude had 22 sacks 3 seasons ago-- really? He's not turning 35 here dude. Bears got a deal on him and this is AWESOME

I think Ware, Peppers, Allen, and Houston were all likely overpaid because you tend to overpay in FA. However, as I said I think this is a good gamble for the Bears particularly since we also have Young and Houston. So not sure your issue here. I can think something was an overpay but still overall a good move by the Bears.

So do you want to focus on the part where we disagree or can we both be happy that regardless of the issue of how we feel about the money, Allen is a good piece to add to the DE rotation?

Peppers was the most dominate DE in the league at the time. And I think that people were stunned by the 90 mil contract. So yes....

I hope they go DT in the first, especially if Donald's there. Having a great front four again makes our shitty safeties less vulnerable. Then they can still go safety later in the draft and hope for a Jordan Mills type situation again.

Just go BPA. If Donald's on the board that's him imo. If not then either a safety or DE will be(Ealy or Dix/Pryor). Yes, I'd still draft Ealy.

Oh, and I want you to know that I choose this avatar simply because I want to see most of you burn.

Nope "He had said toward the end of the 2013 season that he'd stop playing before he'd accept a role as a situational pass-rusher."

Because you haven't watched him play?

I have seen plenty to pass on him at 14. He is no Suh or Tommie Harris in his prime. Take BPA vs need. Simple.

Exactly. This move really helps us in the way we approach the draft now. I love Donald but i think we should now focus the draft on MLB,CB and S for sure now and grab another DT later in the draft.
