Just woke up to this FANTASTIC NEWS. This has a Kenny Williams feel getting a big name on the team. I say what's already been said, this improves the D-line which will in turn improve the Safety play, big move for the NFC North, and very happy with have a GM in Phil Emery and a front office that finally knows what the hell is going on. Can this backfire? Of course, injury or underproduction always plays a factor; but I can't hate this move because it's smart and the contract is nice. We're gonna murder the Packers, the only thing saving Rodgers and the Packers O is cheap penalties, holding, and other ref help. Again, WAY TO GO EMERY.

I think Ware, Peppers, Allen, and Houston were all likely overpaid because you tend to overpay in FA. However, as I said I think this is a good gamble for the Bears particularly since we also have Young and Houston. So not sure your issue here. I can think something was an overpay but still overall a good move by the Bears.

So do you want to focus on the part where we disagree or can we both be happy that regardless of the issue of how we feel about the money, Allen is a good piece to add to the DE rotation?
Not going to argue but there is no way bears overpaid n got allen for what they did when peppers who sucked goes to GB n gets 10. That's overpaying..

Thrilled right now ether way. Solid rotational guy with young stud with Allen and food starter w houston

there's a difference between speculating and hoping.

Speculating is ALL any of us is doing right now.

Peppers was the most dominate DE in the league at the time. And I think that people were stunned by the 90 mil contract. So yes....

BEARS

Peppers just got 8.5 per year, Ware got 10, Allen has outperformed both and got 8? Confused?

I didn't say he was going to be. When you're done sucking your own dick, maybe you'll realize that.

My point is that whatever demands he made 2 weeks ago don't mean shit.

I would love to see a DE rotation a la 2006, because we have some DEs with diverse skillsets, but am not holding my breath, and it does NOT mean I think Jared Allen should be in Mark Womanderson's role.

Allen starts. Period.

Willie can come on and spell Allen/Houston but NO WAY does he start over Allen. You are kidding yourself if you think jared allen doesn't play majority of snaps.

Allen can still get 70-75% of snaps. My point was simply that those snaps should be more heavily skewed to passing downs similar to how the Seahawks use Bennett. So Young is a "starter" only because 1st down is a running down. Otherwise, I would still expect Allen to get as many if not more snaps than he does.

Hell I don't even care if at the start of the game, they have Allen play just so he can be introduced as a start. My point was simply Allen should be getting the majority of his reps on passing downs whether it be 3rd down or 2nd and long. He doesn't mean he will never play on running downs. Just that the Bears should work the rotation so that he gets more opportunities to rush the passer.

When you say "overpaid", in what sense are you talking? Market value? Past performance? Expected future performance?

In terms of what I expect him to actually produce going forward. Obviously the Bears probably think he has more left in the tank which is perfectly fine and why I said it's still a good gamble for them.

If Young, Bass and Washington can step it up, it's very possible to see a rotational system like 2006 or like the Seahawks did last year too. At least on paper that is.

I wonder if Emery did a calf roping dance when the contract was signed.
