Apparently just a cap shenanigans move. I don't see how Scuderi can help...but then again, Ive only done about 10 seconds of homework on the subject. I am disappointed in Daley, as he looked real promising...in the pre-season.

Well, Daley without any O is fake tits on a zombie level of worthless...like Runblad worthless. As long as scuderi can play some D we come out slightly ahead.

Got some real bad news for ya. Q loves Runblad on the PP...pretty sure this just seals the deal on Runblad being on PP2 which means he's also one of the 6. At the very least he'll be part of a 3 man rotation with Scuderi and Rozy for the 5th & 6th slots.

I'm not happy about it either....Runblad skates like he's wearing a business suit.

Scuderi makes Rozy look fast

He is brutal and I do hope Runblad plays more than this slug

Rundblad will be on it when he plays, but it's not certain he's gonna

Scuderi was a solid good defensive player on two Stanley cup teams... in 2009 & 12. He didn't have anything to offer when the Peguins brought him back hoping to solve the riddle they lost.

This also hurts the glimmer it might of had with the new coach for Adam Clendenning to play for the Penguins, I guess he's back to bench sitting.

It could be worse....if TVR didn't step up to be a player, they'd only have 3 reliable guys back there. Actually 3 and a half with Keith. Just way, way too thin.....but this is the off year on the EOY thing, right?

Yeah. And while I'm not going to write off TVR considering he's still quite raw at the pro level, he's just not a top 4 D-man right now. They haven't found a suitable replacement for Oduya and they won't win a Cup without it. If this extra $1 million in cap space helps the Hawks track one down, then this trade is worth it.

A couple thoughts from this trade...

A lot of people (I believe in the old Off Season thread) were saying that Daley would easily replace Oduya. Better offensively and comparable defensively...boy was that off. Sad to see that Daley didn't work out and didn't live up to the expectations of some since it would have made this team better, but it just wasn't there and he wasn't a fit.

This trade is a downgrade when it comes to the player that is going to be on the ice. Scuderi will provide some things that Daley doesn't and maybe that is okay in the #6 spot but this is an overall downgrade. Speed is going to be the biggest difference and Daley was finally using his foot speed a bit more as of late.

The real reason for this trade, atleast I hope the real reason, is likely the cap space that it frees up. It may allow the Blackhawks to make a trade or get another good long look at Gus/Svedberg/etc. It may allow them to eat salary on a Bickell deal and be okay with it. Hopefully this deal is to allow things to happen more freely in the future so that this team can improve.

Don't get me wrong, overall Bowman has done a real nice job but that Bickell money he gave away, even coming off an excellent playoff by Big Foot, has really turned into a butt ******. The sad part is that it's doubtful he would've gotten any offer remotely near that anywhere else. Tough call sometimes trying to predict a player's future.

He is here....he has to be....there is no other option available.

Or it allows the Hawks to eat a portion of Bickell's contract to move him.
Daley looks like a Q move. That dog house probably got too huge for anyone to handle.

With as bad as Daley has been we win with a bag of pucks and cap relief. Q hated him. Now he can focus on shuffling lines again instead of staring him down with death glares. If we can get some old man Soper defense out of scud that's just icing on the cake because the kids are coming up now.

Correct, I mean that is a point I made in the post that you quoted.

That's the thing, people think that Q hates young players. Incorrect, Q hates players that are sound defensively and aren't consistent. Unfortunately, it became apparent that Daley fit into that category and he wasn't going to succeed with the Blackhawks because he wasn't sound defensively and wasn't consistent.

I don't know if you are quite giving TVR the credit that he deserves at the moment. I think we all have a skewed idea of what a #4 dman should look like thanks to Oduya, who was one hell of a #4. I think he has actually stepped into the role nicely and has proven that he can be and currently is a #4 dman. I think ideally we would all like to see him be a #5 guy but that is only because that means the Blackhawks have a dman who is better than him and that would simply improve the whole team. I don't know where TVRs future takes him because he really did have a nice offensive touch at the college level that hasn't quite shown at the NHL level and it seems he may be a Dman who does everything well but not great. Luckily, TVR is young and seems like he is improving while learning on the job.

Same here. Was he even playing every day?

He was playing about 95% of the time. Interestingly enough, they had Scuderi playing with Letang for the last little bit here before Letang got injured. Then again, their coach just got fired...
