Honestly, I was shocked Toews was even able to come back after taking an entire year off hockey; that's insanely difficult at his age.

At first, they said it was "non-covid related." So much for that, I guess. I don't know if I just forgot or if they just never said it was Covid before, but I don't remember it being announced that he had Covid in the past. I know he took a year off because of CIRS, but they were pretty vague on what triggered it. Point is, I don't really get why they were so secretive then; and even now, they initially said it was non-covid related.

I said before that I think he retires. I sincerely hope the guy can come back before the season ends, because I want to see him have a proper last game. If he tries to come back next year, especially if he can't come back before the season ends, that's crazy. He's accomplished everything at the highest level of this game. Like Crawford, it's time to let it go.

Yep. All the best to Toews. His job is done here. He can continue at vet minimum elsewhere if he wants to. The captain is a Hawk for life.

But it's not going to matter. As usual Kane is going to come through in the end.

How bout that hat trick statement game to the only "other" team on his trade list.

Lol.

We certainly won't get the Blues haul but I do think in the end

Kane/Lafferty/Stallock/Domi/Athanasou/McCabe/Murphy.

Will bring us enough to support Bedard and/or the 2021,2022,2023,2024 draft classes.

It looks like a meaty window right now if we get Bedard.
They had a big forward concern but with the number of guys we have contributing offense a Bedard would allow them to almost purely focus on finishing defensive defenseman and goalie and free agency for several years.

Bedard or no Bedard there are potentially at least 6 or 7 franchise players in this legendary draft.
A Russian. A Swede. Fantilli. Bedard and another dominating Canadian. A Slovakian.

And that's just the top end of worthy #1 picks.
We should be happy with anything anywhere in the lottery. I no longer think our finish in the bottom 5 matters as much as Bedard is the only top 7 slot that matters. Everything is likable. Our finish only determines a couple percent chances at Bedard.

I don’t like losing young smart guys like Lafferty until they get beat out on the ice unless the return is Hagel, or even a half Hagel is good for Lafferty or Kane.

They shouldn’t play this greedy but clean the house and stack the deck.
So so far the ask for Laffs is a 2nd round pick and teams are holding out on chicago offering a 3rd rounder so far, Heard on a report that supposedly the ask for McCabe is 3 picks (not sure what the values are) that's not even including if you wanted to package Kane and Mc
Cabe together. So guess either prices are gonna have to drop or teams will get desperate by deadline day.

Finally! Bring on more dead weight contracts please, anything for another sniff at the 2023 draft.

He should have been doing this for the last two months and putting a huge emphasis on hand picking completely garbage players like Zaitsev here. With Toews on ltir, the Hawks have cap space to burn.(Jonny ain’t coming back this year).

The closer we get to the draft, I highly doubt high draft picks become available because GM’s will see their options at landing a good player. There’s going to be more then a couple kids sliding in this draft and finding five future NHL’ers in this draft alone isn’t out the question.

I’m still in the KD doesn’t have the balls to trade Kane camp, but after the last few games where Kane has been one of the best players in the league, the Twitter Tards who were saying he’s only worth a third round pick with retention look a little stupid right now. A motivated Kane is getting a first rounder and a top prospect. And if these rumors that Kane wants KD to try and work something out with a capped out Rangers are true, Rangers fans who think Laff or Kakko ain’t coming back on top of a first( probably not this years first) need a brain enema.

If they could somehow trade Kane to the Rags, your looking at a team that’s as scary as the 2010 Hawks. Hell, if the Av’s were smart they would hand over Byram and their first for Kane and whatever defenseman they want to pick buffet style and get that dualie Cup.

KD won this trade.

That 2nd rd Ottawa pick is pretty much a first rounder and we gave up nothing but cap space.
Yup. Great trade. I don't know what Ottawa is thinking here, were they that desperate to shed Zeitshev? They must think they're contenders within the next two years or something.

But yeah, win-win for the Hawks. Zeitsev makes 4.5 million the next two years, so he helps with the cap floor and the Hawks get a 2nd next year.

Curious what the future considerations will be

Nah Kane and Domi are hell bent on playing out of town.

Look how many points in this win streak!

Are they a package at this point?
Also, the Ottawa trade is fantastic, and paves the way to barely notice trade of Murph and/or McCabe.

If we can get this done and get a top 50 for Laff, top 40 in Kane package,

Our support draft of the top 5 farm we have coming up, is going to be epic. We are going to have reinforcements pushing upward.

Don't get cute until next year. Just lock in meat and potatoes hockey players with good physical traits and skating and IQ.

The real flavor of the team may be defined by the lotteries.

They needed space to resign Cat.

Which makes you wonder what Cat really wants in his first big money contract and if trading him was a smart move.

I mean…..anything over 9.5 million I would walk away from the guy…

Well, there’s always the myth that a trade pool of players and picks are agreed upon but they’re just not releasing the info to the public. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was a seventh rounder with conditions ?

Chance to Bedard has gone from 25% to 11%

We need a long series of rawr.
Might want to boot Jaxon along with Stallock and everything over 30 on defense.

If this is all we’re getting for Kane KD is getting bent over.

There is a connection tho. Kravstov played with Hawk prospect Safonov back in the day and have chemistry. Both are fucking huge.

I cannot say I wouldn’t mind watching a huge third line of Russian monsters who can skate and bang in the future. Saf is 6’4 and Krav is 6’3. That’s a lot of meat.

We better be getting at least a second rounder back.

I'm getting more and more displeased with Davidson. Seems to be always late in pulling the trigger where he ends up getting locked out. Plus he gets rave reviews on the Ottawa trade....which is only good if he doesn't **** up the picks he makes. Of course, the tank and everything else is based on how he drafts.....the thing is....nobody knows. Procrastination can be a killer. If this is all he can get for Kane, you might as well resign him and move Domi. He's younger, cheaper, having a better year and could probably pull in more assets. But again, it all depends on how he drafts and given that most of his GM training came from Bowman....no one should be overly confident.
