Well if it's true you'll be seeing less and less retaliation why couldn't it also be true that it also means there would be less and less to retaliate to? Shouldn't that be the goal? Yeah you'll always have dumbasses but if you get it to a point where you start singling them out, they won't last long anyways, because their previous worth will be for jack shit.

Let's hope that's the case. I hate seeing guys layed out from hits to the head or from being boarded from behind.

The team did not need an enforcer on the ice at that moment. I don't care if you were the smallest guy on the line at the time, damn it, I want to see someone do something at that moment rather then some pushing against the glass.

And be suspended for instigating? Really? Who'd ever did that would have had several extra days off while the rest of the team skated. Also if you watch the replay Bolland went right after him and Ericsson stepped in between them. So now you try to kick two guys asses? The Wings were ALL around Smith on the glass? So now you have a team brawl and lose how many to Shanahans oncoming suspensions?

Grimson Eager is one Concussion from ending his career. Would you like to bet me money he wouldn't have done shit? How much you got to lose? Burish would have gone in and probably gotten his ass kicked. I've seen him win ONE FIGHT and it was a "lucky" punch.

Give me a break. The days of retaliation are long over. Ask Shanahan if you don't believe me. Or the guy he just suspended for 5 games for leaving the bench with the sole purpose of relaliation.

Blackhawks lose Stalberg for 3 weeks; Smith 'OK'

The Chicago Blackhawks will be without Viktor Stalberg for about three weeks after the winger suffered a leg injury during Wednesday night's exhibiton game against the Detroit Red Wings.

"We'll see how he does," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said after Thursday's practice at the United Center. "He seemed OK (Thursday morning) but that's probably what we're looking at.

"He's had a great camp. He was skating well and had a little something going there on Jonathan (Toews') line. He's got some speed and he's one of the top fit guys so we don't expect him to be too far away as far as conditioning to get him back up to speed."

Stalberg was injured late in the first period after appearing to collide with a Wings player. Quenneville intimated the hit might not have been entirely accidental.

"It looked like it might have been a collision," Quenneville said. "But it looked like it could have been more of a collision. We'll leave it at that."

Meanwhile, rookie Ben Smith missed practice after leaving Wednesday's game after being hit in the head by the shoulder of the Wings' Brendan Smith. The Hawks believed the hit was illegal and Brendan Smith reportedly will have a disciplinary hearing with the league soon.

"Ben (Smith) is okay--I guess okay," Quenneville said. "I don't want to put a timeline (for his recovery) on him."

In other injury news, the Hawks were also without Dave Bolland at practice. Quenneville said the center is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. He added that it is not related to the concussion Bolland suffered last season.

Winger Daniel Carcillo returned to practice after missing three days with the flu and Patrick Sharp, who is recovering from an appendectomy, likely will practice with teammates Friday. Rookie forward Jeremy Morin is progressing from a concussion but is still not practicing.

When has anyone been suspended for instigating except when they leave the bench specifically to do so?

Well being that at the time Eager was the "Hawks' enforcer" he wasn't "one concussion away from his career ending" I would bet you 100% that if he was on the ice he would have gone after him.

And you basically just copy and pasted what I said about Burish... he would have gotten his ass kicked but at least he stood up for his teammate.

I remember when Kane got hit (and it wasn't even that bad) by Dorsett (I think) and Brouwer came in and kicked the shit out of him that Kane loved that and that's what brings locker rooms closer. Or how about when John Scott kicked the shit out of Staubitz after he hit Campbell on an icing? You again said that is why John Scott is valuable because he will stick up for his teammates.

Don't see any difference here... someone should have done something, end of story.

didn't have a chance last night if you'd watch the replay. The Wangs surrounded them. As for you when has anyone been suspended for instigating what? Had someone gone over and tried knocking the shit out of him (seabrook was the only one on the ice that could) I bet Shanny would have had more to give today.

Again they ushered the guy off the ice? Unless someone IE Mayers hopped over the boards at that instance, how would it be atoned for?

End of story. Shouldn't you be changing your picture to ben smith now?

Ben knew that Wang Smith was there...so I don't consider it a "blindside" hit

Wang Smith knows - he must get a piece of Ben - with the BODY, and cannot play the puck. It's toast, if a Dman does that, and every single on knows that, is taught that from peewee on.

I'm sorry Mr. Babcock, but that is bullshit.

I have never seen Duncan Keith A NORRIS TROPHY WINNER or Niklas Lidstrom A MULTIPLE NORRIS TROPHY WINNER feel it is imperative that they use their body to deal with that rushing forward. In fact many many many many times I have seen them position themselves properly and deal with the attack by going after the puck or limiting what the forward can do to get the shot off.

Why would I change my picture to Ben Smith? I don't ride his nuts as hard as TCD... I have other players for that lol.

Bolland could have got him if he wanted, but he didn't. Even Keith went after Wiz after he clocked Seabrook.

EVERY other hit that has resulted in a suspension this year has also resulted in a fight and I don't see any of those that instigated a fight as suspended? Except for Jacques who left the bench and skated right at Duco which is a different circumstance.

Oh well... that POS Brendan Smith will get his eventually... especially with the lineup we have now.

Got to disagree. Had Bolland started something as soon as he skated over to Smith instead of calling him bad names and yapping, he could have done something. But he waited until others got there to protect Smith. He had time.....if he wanted to do something about it. Obviously he didn't. And unless the rules have changed, instigation is an extra 2 isn't it? Doubt that is a suspendable offense.

And Seabs and Abdelkader both got 10 minute majors. For what, I have no idea.

Rosehill/Clackson/Getzlaf all didn't get suspended (or receive instigator penalties I don't think) for their fights after a hit that resulted in suspension.

And yea... Bolland had plenty of time.

Hell when Mitchell smoked Toews, Versteeg was the first one in to start a fight.

And I never would have seen Zdeno Chara or Chris Pronger play the puck there and not the body - NORRIS TROPHY WINNERS also. Or Scott Stevens - probably the best defender who never won one, but won a Conn Smythe. In fact, many many many times I have seen them line the body up and look for opportunities to have a forward pay the price for skating laterally with the blueline.

Keith and Lidstrom combine for about 80 hits a year - they're not physical players.

But if you read/quoted my entire post, I understood what Wang Smith was trying to do - he was beat and made clear contact to the head, which will rightfully be the cause of the suspension. Playing the body is the right/best play to make there - just not at the expense of a head shot, which he delivered.

I don't think the intent was at the head, but the took a poor angle/was beat and his reaction forced the head shot.

And Bolland or Bickell had a chance to grab Wang Smith before the refs did. Bolland, I can see not - he's small and another concussion waiting to happen. But if he wouldve grabbed him, and Bickell had some balls, they couldve taken care of things before refs had a chance to get in there.

It took Seabrook and Keith to get in the crowd before there was pushing and shoving, etc. It was too late to get to him by then.

Are people seriously abdacating for Bolland to get his face smashed... what is he Danny Richmond all of a sudden?

see I disagree. I don't think that's Q's style. Nor do I think there was great opportunity to do so.

I can understand why Bolland didn't/wouldn't....can't understand why Bickell didn't engage more.

For a guy his size, seeing the smaller guy (Smith) down, knowing he's with Bolland (small), Keith and Seabrook (2 guys you don't want fighting)....he should have been an agressor.

And Q even singled him out as a guy needing to 'get it going' before the game. But he seems to never know the situation/just goes for a skate.
