Buff, Eager and Sopel to ATL
I read this morning that Bowman was quoted something like "we don't have to do anything else now" in terms of the cap.

How is that possible? If the bonus thing is correct and we can only spend up to $55 million, then we have $53 under contract now with just 13 guys signed. Even if we ditch Huet to Rockford, we still have only $7.5 million to sign 10 guys, two of which are RFA's and prime offer sheet guys. What is he talking about?

Here is the quote:

And the link to the story.

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/news/story?id=5320715
Meaning that after July 1st there is a 10% kicker that raises the cap to 69 mil until the day the season starts or Final Rosters are in. Right now they don't necessarily have to do anything else. They got enough room to sign Hjarlmarsson before July 1st.

They are far from done IMO.

I was talking about the interview and his ungodly sense that the Hawks are worse then last year.

As for the Bowman quote. I know he isn't done. Way to much needs to be done to make room for the remaining players.
Listen to the interview again CLOSELY. It's not Rogers saying the Hawks will be worse next year; it's one of the other guys.

If, and these are big if's, the Hawks are on the hook for just Toews Conn Smythe bonus and no other bonus and Hjarlmasson(sp?) and Niemi(or his replacement) come in less than 5 million between the two contracts, Ladd and Versteeg might stay.

Once contracts over the minimum are factored in(Beach and Skille), the above is less likely.

Something has to happen with the goalie situation.

I predict something involving a new goalie in our system, either Rockford or Chicago.

Reasoner has averaged playing 78 games per season for the past four seasons, so he appears to be a workhorse.

For all the Huet haters though, that would be perfect.

I dont think much more needs to be done actually With Huet going to get sent down..that gives the Hawks 12 players signed for 47.79mil..or 12 mil cap space.

I could see Reasoner moved and his 1.2mil contract as well, (with Dowell already signed), giving the Hawks 13.2mil to sign/fill up with 9 more players.

Crawford - 800K (backup goalie)

Dowell - 525K (4th line C)

Beach - 1.17

Gives about 10.75 to fill out the rest these 4 should not cost much, 3 - 3.5 combined

Bickell - 625K

Skille - 625K

Hendry - 800K

Boynton - 1mil

Which will leave around 7 - 7.5 mil for these 3

Hjarllmarsson - 2mil

Ladd - 2mil

Niemi - 3mil

I do not think Hjarllmarsson is one to get 3mil yet. No way. Not after the overpaying of Versteeg, Byfuglien, Barker to 3mil while RFA's. I think Nik stays in the same range that Yandle or Boychuk got - 2yr - 3.8 (1.9mil per). I think Niemi doesnt break 3mil as well. It will be interesting to see what Ladd does or what he can get on the market/what he's asking for. It's still very doable to keep the rest of these guys...it still may not happen, but still very able. It's not as "doom and gloom" as every writer has made it out to be, thats for sure.

Kopecky - Toews - Hossa

Beach- Sharp - Kane

Ladd - Bolland - Versteeg

Bickell - Dowell - Skille

Seabrook - Keith

Campbell - Hjarllmarsson

Hendry - Boynton

Niemi

Crawford

Actually, I think Huet would look better in San Jose's system. Their team defense is far better at cleaning up rebounds than the 'Hawks system.

Anybody know anything about Joey Crabb or seen him play?

As far as this:

The Blackhawks aren't backed into a corner after the trade, Bowman said.

"We'll explore other ways to make changes ... [we] don't necessarily have to do anything else," he said.

As far as more moves that need to be made... nobody knows that but Bowman and co. Forget what media says, nobody has the numbers but the Blackhawks organization. Its not like they release that info to capnumbers.com or whatever the **** sites people go to for that. Its just a guess, and most-likely those numbers are probably skewed anyway.
.....it HAD to be done, Buff's value will never be higher then it is right now. Something tells me that it might be hard for the big man to get motivated every night in Atlanta and the 6,000 fans a night....
There are always surprises. Buff having such great post seasons was surprising for so many of us. I'd love it if Buff turned in to one of THE premier players in the NHL.

Another surprise this past season: Sopel becoming so important after missing nearly all of 2008-2009. When I attended games, I liked watching him on the PK.

In the few games they had against each other the past three seasons or so, the Thrasher and Hawks tended to mix it up quite a bit. I wonder if this will intensify the physicality of those games or not. Maybe the shenanigans were more about so many Thrashers spending time in Chicago as Wolves. I wonder if Aliu will begin at Rosemont or in Atlanta.

Anyway, there is more talent on the way just waiting for a chance.

My favorite teams
 1. Chicago White Sox
 1. Chicago Fire
 1. Chicago Bears
 1. Chicago Blackhawks
I believe Versteeg and Boynton will both be gone.

Couldn't get myself to read the entire thread. I stopped at about the fourth page.

In my mind this is a fine trade. To restock your farm system with draft picks (especially someone elses) and prospects, only helps to perpetuate the winning ways.

Scooter has taken his assets and sold them when their value is at their highest and got a decent return.

Buy Low - Sell High

With top end talent always ready to replace expendable players, things are looking good for years to come. Kinda reminds me of Detroit's model.

Ton if I remember correctly Joey Crabb has been playing for the Wolves and has been on atleast one of there Championship teams. I'm assuming he's going to be playing in Rockford.
