The Hawks had to do but it still sucks. I love Buff and Eager. But I guess business is business. Atlanta will be

a team I'll kind of pull for behind the Hawks if course.
Also Kane did not make his A bonus. Not sure where everyone is saying he did. There is nothing out there saying he has. Toews made 1.3 for the Con Smyth.
Which is still the absolute most ridiculous fucking thing I've ever heard. Seriously, so many things wrong with that counting against the cap.

How about just 12 million and we keep Steeg?
I don''t know about that. I think you want wiggle room, plus some of that money will go to Niemi, Hjarlmarsson, Beach, Lalonde, ect ect. I still think you move Versteeg while his return is good.

Yea, I will definitely, them and the Panthers are gonna be fun to watch on weeknights when the Hawks aren't playing.

No one will take Huet. The Hawks will eat his contract and send him to the AHL. Then it will be his choice to bolt to the KHL if he wants.

Yea I just hope he moves out of conference and we get picks, picks and more picks for him. Preferably from a shitty team with high ones. Still not sold on Beach, he was a man playing against boys in the WHL last year, Lalonde will be a great Campbell/Keith hybrid, and with Hammer, Keith, Seabs, Campbell mentoring him could he come into a better situation? O and his captain is Toews. Really, he's set up for very good things.

Why?

Oh, and can SOMEBODY change my avatar sig?
I'm not privy to negotiations with Niemi anf Hjarlmarsson but a guess is that between the two of them the contract comes in at 5.5-6.0 million. Maybe.

That leaves 15 under contract and about 2.3 over. Versteeg goes...

That leaves 14 under contract and about .75 under.

A team has flexibility to go over the cap be 10% in the off season or in this case about 5.5 million. Six positions at 700K is 4.2 . Dumping Huet in the Rock brings in Crawford at 800K. Total =5 million.

Ladd would make that impossible to work.

I sit back and thought about this. This a win win for both squads. We cannot determine a winner until a few years down the ride. This brings Atlanta a power fwd and it sheds cap room for us. I thinkit is a win-win. It is better than just getting a bag of pucks for buffy.

Intellectually, I knew something like this had to happen. But, as a fan, I really was hoping Buff wouldn't be among the casualties. I'm pretty sad to see him go! I should know better than to get too attached to seeing certain players in the Indianhead. But damnit, I liked what Big Buff brought to our Cup run this year! In the end, I understand that something had to give and Buff was among the prime candidates. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Huet needs to be traded ASAP to remove his salary, otherwise his cap will stay on the books until 12 days before the season opening when he can be placed on waivers (sent down to Rockford). Before that there is no sending him down to the minors and clearing his cap.

I think we got fairly good return on this deal considering our lack of leverage here, but lets be real. Anytime you give up established NHL players for picks/prospects, you are losing the deal. No way the Hawks make this trade if they aren't in cap hell. Its a good trade only if we capitalize on the picks and/or Morin pans out. If none of that happens, it's going to be looked at as a bad trade, plain and simple. A necessary one, yes, but not necessarily a good one.

I posted this in another thread. It comes directly from the CBA.

the Upper Limit shall be temporarily raised

by ten (10) percent to permit Clubs additional flexibility

with their Averaged Club Salaries during the period from

July 1 until and including the last day of Training Camp.

He does not need to be traded. And if a team were willing to take Huet, I'm guessing a contract is coming back to the Hawks.

Who the hell is going to take Huet with out us taking one of their crap contracts?

As RK said, Huet will go to Rockford and then probably leave or will rot in the minors.

After July 1st there is a 10% kicker. Meaning the Hawks could be at 69 mil in cap space.

They don't need to move Huet ASAP.

Lots of love being thrown at the Hawks for this deal elsewhere.

We, collectively as a group are looking at Buff thru rose colored glasses. The Hawks got their "steep" asking price beause they were patient and smart. Buff had 34 points this year, I know what he did in the playoffs, but we have no other choice but to do this deal. It is a great return.

Good trade for both teams. The Italian mule is pissed off as Buff is her crush. She just said she is going to have to cheer for Atlanta out East now.

I'm going to miss my boy Sopel but he got his cup and helped this club out. All 3 did. I was a big Eager fan also. Beach will be a fine replacement.

I am wondering if this will actually give us space to resign LAdd. If so that would be great!!!

Good job Hawks. Like the draft picks very nice.

Thanks Buff, Eager and Sopel for all they did for this club. They will be truely missed. By myself anyways. It's not about needing them it's about what they contributed when they were here. All 3 were great.

Versteeg, Huet plus NJ's 1st

to FLA

(FLA could use Huet after they move Vokoun to PHI....please, Dale)
