This is bullshit. How many players are we going to lose? My god are we going to keep anyone?

How do we all forget Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook, Campbell, Hjalmarsson, Brouwer, Niemi, etc. etc. etc.

We're losing some players that were quite valuable to us, but it doesn't mean we're going to be Edmonton next year.

Ladd to ATL for a draft pick and a prospect. No particulars as of yet.

Really? I think we all knew this was going to happen, for the last 6 months everyone has said that we would lose two of Buff, Versteeg, and Sharp.. we did. Ladd was RFA and would basically need to take a pay cut to stay here, if he went to arbitration that Hawks wouldn't be able to afford him.

I'm not shocked, at all.

It's going to be weird playing them this year!

Dreger reports draft pick and a prospect (no name given) coming back.

Re: Ladd to ATL

I'm not shocked at all by this, glad we're keeping Sharp.

As an avid follower of our minor league system as well as many of us (hi IHF) I am extremely excited to be able to see our young players next year! No team in the league has a core like the Hawks... we dumped ROLE players and we can get more of those.

Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Brouwer, Bolland

Seabrook, Keith, Campbell, Hjalmarsson

There's a nice solid core of 10 players right there.

Re: Ladd to ATL

Look I know we were going to lose people but it seems like everyone is going. I thought trading Versteeg meant Ladd was staying. Are they gonna trade Sharp next? What happened to sending Huet to the AHL?

No more deals. Except for low rent UFA's.

Can't be done until later in the summer.

Re: Ladd to ATL for 2nd Round Pick & Vishnevskiy

Hawks have something like 5m left on the cap with 12 players signed, I assume removing Huet gets that number up to 10m. So Hawks need to cut some fat to ice a complete team next year with some key RFAs signed

Just a GREAT return for Ladder. I hate to lose him but we are acquiring top notch prospects and picks when people thought we would lose these guys for NOTHING.. I really like what Bowman has done so far.

Ladd was the one guy I really hoped would stick around. He was one of my favorites. At least I can go see him 3 times a year kick the shit out of the lightning.

Re: Ladd to ATL for 2nd Round Pick & Vishnevskiy

2006-07: The Stars used their first-round pick (27th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft to select Vishnevskiy. He returned to the Huskies and once again lead the club’s defensemen in points. He made some minor strides towards improving his defensive play and jumped from a plus-1 to a plus-9 -- scoring less on a worse team. Vishnevskiy also appeared in two games for Russia in the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.

2007-08: On July 18, 2007, the Stars signed Vishnevskiy to a three-year entry-level deal. He was returned to Rouyn-Noranda once more where he had a point per game (45 in 45) but did not have as strong of a playoffs. He was nominated as a second-team QMJHL All-Star for his regular season efforts however. He also joined the Russian team for six games in Canada-Russia Jrs. Super Series, but only notched one goal during the series. Vishnevskiy was once again left off the World Juniors (U20) roster, this time because of a knee injury.

2008-09: Vishnevskiy got his first taste of professional hockey with the Peoria Rivermen this season. His numbers weren’t exactly awe-inspiring (19 points and a minus-5 in 67 games). For much of his time in Peoria, his play wasn’t exactly inspired either. Vishnevskiy seemed almost bored with his time in the AHL. If there’s one thing that kept him busy, however, it was improving his defensive play over the course of the year – which he did. Recalled to Dallas for the last three games of the season.

Talent Analysis

A fluid skater, Vishnevskiy has all the offensive tools to become a powerplay quarterback in the NHL. He’s undersized and only average in his own end, two things that will work against him at the professional level. However, he has the vision and skill set that enable him to be a great puck-mover. Reads plays well and has the skating ability to stay in the play defensively, but isn’t consistent enough in that regard. Needs to figure out a way to handle power forwards effectively.

Future

Potential: Second pairing offensive defenseman and power play quarterback, similar to Lubomir Visnovsky.

Sounds like he may be with the club next year, already signed to a 3yr deal...former 1st round pick....and gets a 2nd round pick as well - an upgrade from Hendry hopefully - good move Scooter!

If the 4 mil was correct the Hawks "had" 13 guys signed for 49.5 mil. Now that Versteeg is gone and assuming Huet is out that goes to 41 mil. Hawks cap with that 4 mil taken out is 55.5 Mil.

Not convinced. Time will tell, but I think this move sucks....

Ok let's put it like this... Sharp or Ladd? Sharp.

Hjarlmarsson or Ladd? Hjarlmarsson

Niemi or Ladd? Niemi.

My first disappointment BUT I realize there was no money. The move does not suck.
