Re: Ladd to ATL for 2nd Round Pick & Vishnevskiy
Sounds like this kid may be ahead of Lalonde as far as time in the AHL. I think it would be good to keep Shawn in Rockford (as well as Beach, sorry Stu)...if they can.

Give them a year there to develop
I think Lalonde is on the team by the All Star break and I think Beach might start with the Hawks. If nothing else I bet Beach is up by the All Star break as well. I agree with you, they should spend at least sometime in Rockford. BUT... Beach IS THAT GOOD, trust me. Especially for those who haven't seen him play live... he's the real deal.

Speaking of which, my ticket agent (the one they just honored actually) called me last week to set up my 5 game plan already! Can't believe hockey is only 2 months away!

And I know this is skewed, but Lalonde will be another good locker room guy, OHLer, yet another Canadian/North American, was around for the cup win this year. The biggest thing to me is losing character with these cap casualties, who knows maybe Vishnevski is a great locker room guy, but I'll take Lalonde in play and character.

Re: Ladd to ATL for 2nd Round Pick & Vishnevskiy

Just as with the other losses, it sucks as a fan, but I think this one also falls into the category of "pretty much had to happen."

This is probably old hat, but looking at the numbers, we only have 13 players signed and not even $4.1M in cap space to fill out the rest of the roster. Ladd was a RFA and even if they could have signed him for the same salary, he would have been a $1.6M cap hit. Huet's salary will be off the books one way or another, but even then that's only $9.7M of space for 11 roster spots. It would've been $8.1M for 10 spots with Ladd at last year's salary. And one of those spots has to go to Niemi, who will probably get in the vicinity of $2-2.5M. The Hawks were up against the cap in a bad way. It really sucks to see these guys go! But I just don't see how it could have been otherwise.

This is no small consolation, though: WE WON THE CUP!!!

Just noticed that Crazy Ivan is an RFA. I hope Stan talked with his agent prior to completing the deal. Those Ruskie's like their KHL these days.

I think he's signed through this year -- and a RFA next year.

Re: Ladd to ATL for 2nd Round Pick & Vishnevskiy

I highly doubt Stalberg, Vishnevskiy or whoever is going to come in as a 24yr old and 22 year old respectively and be a "bad locker room" guy - to the defending Stanley Cup Champs...

I'd like to see the Hawks sign a cheap Vet Dman to fillout the 5-6 role and go with a group -

Keith, Seabrook, Campbell, Hjarllmarsson, Vishnevskiy and VETERAN ....

I agree that Lalonde will prob see time, but as we all know, D can take some time, even Hammer played a bit in the AHL and its a good "problem" to have.

I really like what Scooter has done so far as far as getting picks/young players -

Byfuglien - 1st, 2nd and Morin (2nd rnd pick)

Versteeg - Stalberg (24yr old NHLer), Paradis (1st rnd pick)

Ladd - 2nd round pick 2011, Vishnevskiy (1st rnd pick)

Barker - Leddy (1st rnd pick)

A good pipeline on thier way too....with Lalonde, Olsen, Leddy, Johns in a few years...

Thats, true. I'm just a huge Lalonde fan. If Vishneskiy can produce more then let him play.

Yep exactly what I said, our core 10. Worried, I am not. I am just going to miss the personality and the chemistry of the players we lost.

Re: Ladd to ATL for 2nd Round Pick & Vishnevskiy

RK...you should include the AGE of this old, Veteran laden team, that just won the Stanley Mutherfuckin' (for you BHP) Cup -

Under 30 group -

Kopecky - 28

Sharp - 28

Keith - 27

Niemi - 26

Crawford - 26

Seabrook - 25

Brouwer - 25

Stalberg - 24

Bolland - 24

Hjarllmarsson - 23

Visnevskiy - 22

Toews - 22

Kane - 21

And the "over the hill group" -

Reasoner - 33 (former 1st round pick as well)

Hossa - 31

Campbell - 31

There's 16 players, prob guaranteed to be on the opening day roster - average age - 26 years old.

Now, with Bickell (24), Dowell (25) and Skille (23) as 3 decent chances to make the team ..that'll bring the average age down to 25.7 ....

Only 3 players over the age of 30 so far on the team, 12 Stanley Cup Winners on the roster...yeah....I'm "worried" about this teams "future"...lol

I'm sorry to see Ladd go. He worked his ass off every shift and the Hawks will miss him.

If a splash had a smell, then the hawks would reek of it. I feel this is not the last deal. Someone wants to capitalize on the cup with another free agent splash. But I don't think anyone is out there that's worth it. (within reason)
