Just a GREAT return for Ladder. I hate to lose him but we are acquiring top notch prospects and picks when people thought we would lose these guys for NOTHING.. I really like what Bowman has done so far.
It helps when you have friends to work with. It will interesting to see if Stan pulls off trades (down the road) with some far off team/GM or even better, a division or conference rival.

Ok let's put it like this... Sharp or Ladd? Sharp.

Hjarlmarsson or Ladd? Hjarlmarsson

Niemi or Ladd? Niemi.

My first disappointment BUT I realize there was no money. The move does not suck.
Sorry Ron, but it does....personally....to me. I loved what Ladd brought to the table for the Hawks. Just because you present either or scenarios doesn't mean it doesn't suck....

If he is "NHL ready" then why did he play in Peoria this past year? ...and look like he could care less?

Re: Ladd to ATL for 2nd Round Pick & Vishnevskiy
2006-07: The Stars used their first-round pick (27th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft to select Vishnevskiy. He returned to the Huskies and once again lead the club’s defensemen in points. He made some minor strides towards improving his defensive play and jumped from a plus-1 to a plus-9 -- scoring less on a worse team. Vishnevskiy also appeared in two games for Russia in the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.

2007-08: On July 18, 2007, the Stars signed Vishnevskiy to a three-year entry-level deal. He was returned to Rouyn-Noranda once more where he had a point per game (45 in 45) but did not have as strong of a playoffs. He was nominated as a second-team QMJHL All-Star for his regular season efforts however. He also joined the Russian team for six games in Canada-Russia Jrs. Super Series, but only notched one goal during the series. Vishnevskiy was once again left off the World Juniors (U20) roster, this time because of a knee injury.

2008-09: Vishnevskiy got his first taste of professional hockey with the Peoria Rivermen this season. His numbers weren’t exactly awe-inspiring (19 points and a minus-5 in 67 games). For much of his time in Peoria, his play wasn’t exactly inspired either. Vishnevskiy seemed almost bored with his time in the AHL. If there’s one thing that kept him busy, however, it was improving his defensive play over the course of the year – which he did. Recalled to Dallas for the last three games of the season.

Talent Analysis

A fluid skater, Vishnevskiy has all the offensive tools to become a powerplay quarterback in the NHL. He’s undersized and only average in his own end, two things that will work against him at the professional level. However, he has the vision and skill set that enable him to be a great puck-mover. Reads plays well and has the skating ability to stay in the play defensively, but isn’t consistent enough in that regard. Needs to figure out a way to handle power forwards effectively.

Future

Potential: Second pairing offensive defenseman and power play quarterback, similar to Lubomir Visnovsky.

Sounds like he may be with the club next year, already signed to a 3yr deal...former 1st round pick....and gets a 2nd round pick as well - an upgrade from Hendry hopefully - good move Scooter!
I hope Lalonde still gets a chance at Hendry's spot.

Must be thinking of someone else. Vishnevskiy played for the Texas Stars and Chicago Wolves this past year, as well as a stint with Dallas in the NHL.

Team is going to look a whole lot different sans Buff, Versteeg, Ladd, Sopel, Eager, Burish, Madden, Hendry, Huet and even Boynton. Hopefully they still have enough to compete. Or at least enough bodies to take the ice!

There's a Vishnevsky and a Visnovsky so beware.

Re: Ladd to ATL for 2nd Round Pick & Vishnevskiy

I'd rather have Vitali Vishnevski from what this guy sounds like... I'm not too fond about losing Ladd for this guy, but Ladd for a draft pick isn't bad, and looking at RK's rebuttal, doesn't make this a bad deal... Still, though, that name Vishnevski haunts me some. That video Razzberry posted doesn't help ease my nerves either.... reminds me of a former Hawk we all know and love.

Honestly not too worried... we have the core 10 and can fill in the pieces. Getting these players shored up or shipped out now could pay big dividends in the next few years when we have to start paying prospects and resigning core guys. Not to mention all the young talent we've received in turn.

Fuckin a, Dudley wins this round IMO.

This trade bothers me, Ladd, Steeg, Buff, Sopel, Eager, Fraser. Thats a lot of character, in bold is who I somewhat accepted leaving regardless of what I thought. Ladd I convinced myself we could keep, Eager will be done in a year or two with another concussion, but Ladd leaving really hurts. Our depth has been decimated by the cap.

As if that wasn't confusing enough already:

I understand the fact that Ladd is well liked, but Vishnevskiy has potential and fits our D-core.

I'm pretty confident in saying that he may be a scapegoat for the season assuming he makes the team, but he has plenty of room to grow and will be given the benefit of doubt by me. No question right now he would be our worst defensive defender but he has much offensive upside and should be fine paired with someone like Hammer.

Hendry is best suited as a 7th dman. The word is the Hawks are negotiating a contract with him even though he was not qualified.

Look for a low rent defensive dman to be signed by the hawks. Campbell never had a lot of PK time this past year. Sopel ate those minutes. Do you really want a last pair of Lalonde and Vishnevsky? Assuming Q continues to limit Campbell on the PK, which of those two gets those minutes?

Unless Lalonde is absolutely lights out at training camp, he starts the year in Rockford now that Vishie is on the squad.

Let's hope its the Kings version and not the Oilers version of Visnovsky.

Sounds like this kid may be ahead of Lalonde as far as time in the AHL. I think it would be good to keep Shawn in Rockford (as well as Beach, sorry Stu)...if they can.

Give them a year there to develop

I disagree, anyone who comes up this year and see's time, Dowell, Bickell, Lalonde, Beach are in a position only to succeed right now. I really think Lalonde playing on a team with Campbell, Keith, Seabs, Hammer this season would be great. It is a win-win situation for our prospects right now, I really want to see Lalonde in the IndianHead this year.
