Can anyone honestly look at the rosters of the 4 Championship teams that competed to be in the Super Bowl, and think we're only a Caleb Williams away?

I don't remember ever seeing a post claiming the Bears can win a super bowl with CW at QB and if there is then i simply missed it. All i remember seeing is people talking about what other holes need to be filled besides what to do at the QB position. Maybe some have said we can make the playoffs with CW or the right QB but haven't seen anything about winning super bowls with CW or the right QB.

Dude almost everyone does. I don’t know what else to say

It doesn't count if they say it to win an argument, and then jump into any thread against drafting caleb and firing off personal attacks.

I don't know what to tell you. Either you take everything in context including how people are acting, or you just only care about the literal word in the moment, even if it means ignoring something they said that was the near exact opposite in a post or two before.

Who said the Bears are going to go to the Super Bowl immediately after drafting Williams?

No one that I know of. The idea that Williams is a wasted draft pick because the rest of the team needs upgrades as well doesn’t mean you default to a quarterback who’s had his chance and failed. It’s a process.

#calebonthecranium, MJ. You’ve got it bad . . .

People like to hide behind this. But look at how the people who are arguing for Caleb Williams are acting. Look how many of you guys propped up CJ Stroud.

You guys act like as long as you don't literally say the exact words That we can just ignore your actions and your past posts and past behaviors As if it's impossible to infer what you guys believe from those.

I hate to break it to you, but when you have a track record of certain posts, it's pretty damn easy to infer what you think even if you're not being honest about it.
Soooooooooo...................nobody has ever said it then??

No. It’s in Caleb Williams‘ contract that if you draft him that’s all you get. You can’t sign players in FA or use any of your other draft picks.
I thought Caleb goes straight from the stage after hugging Goodell to our draft room so he can finish our draft for us?

Nobody thinks all we need is Caleb Williams. This team will still have all of their own picks, extra 2nd next year, probably an additional 2nd for a Fields trade, and tons of cap space to fill out this roster.

Why would anyone think the team has no additional avenues to improve if they use the #1 pick?

Because I really want to get the pulse on this.

This isn't about Caleb Williams vs Justin Fields, so if you want to turn it into one of those threads, **** you.

Just objectively tell me, in your opinion, do you really think all this roster is missing is Caleb Williams and off we go to the Super Bowl?

Because that's how a lot of you guys are talking, and when I compare the Bears' roster to the 49ers, Lions, Chiefs and Ravens and shit, even the Packers, the Bears still have some significant holes.

And the reason I even bring this up, is because I suspect the same people who will say "well, even with Williams, of course the Bears have holes that need to be filled before we can compete for a Super Bowl) were some of the same people looking at CJ Stroud and using him as justification for drafting Williams, because somehow a magical QB can just carry people to Super Bowls, even though CJ Stroud did NOT do that for his team, and got absolutely SMOKED when playing a legit team in the Ravens.

So which is it? Pick a lane.

Because those of us who want the haul, see an opportunity to close a 2-3 year talent gap in a single draft with the picks and players we'd be getting back, plus see a San Fransisco team that almost won a Super Bowl with a QB who wasn't exactly God's gift to quarterbacking.
So what your saying is a 7-10 team isn't as good the 4 best teams in the NFL?

Not buying it.

They’re still going to let us use our other draft picks and free agency, right?

I heard we drafting Caleb and filling out the rest of the team with guys like this.

Considering the Bears should have swept the Lions, I do not see us far off. If anything I look at the product of the NFL and think the league is mediocre.

We have some decent cap space to work with, especially once we cut EJ and Whitehair. We also have an extra 1st round pick at #9 overall and maybe we get an extra 2nd rd pick from trading Fields. We have some tools to fill the gaps in our roster.

This team is not one player away from a Super Bowl. That would just be silly to believe. We haven't made the playoffs in years and one person doesn't fix that.

My personal belief is that good teams are built on consistency and a lot of hits on picks/signings. You try to do as many of the following as you can:

  1. Keep a group of people together... coaches and/or players. Coaches are particularly important cause you don't want to change philosophy when you've built specifically with one vision in mind. For example, you don't want to swap a 4-3 to a 3-4.
  2. Make the right upgrades where necessary. You will need a couple of special players to carry the team. Ideally, you have the QB set and a core piece on defense like an edge, DT, or LB.
  3. Hit your picks. The regular bunch of picks you get annually is good enough, just don't swing and miss too much. Every good team is able to get players in all rounds that become contributors. I'm far too lazy to do the math for a substantial amount of teams, but an example of this is the Niners. I checked Niners roster for comparison cause it’s known for being stacked… 12 starters total (w/ FB)

    Average Age: 28.5
    Average experience: 6.3 seasons
    Average time with SF: 3.67

What that tells me is you need to hit on a lot of picks. Note, they blew the Lance trade and are still solid. Also, note they traded for CMC and Trent. So it's also important to make calculated moves for veterans when available. What it also tells me is this isn't about just assembling a million picks and hoping it works. You need to hit later picks and can't rely on just a couple extra to make up for a lack of ability to pick reliable replacements. To keep the ball rolling, we will eventually need to be able to hit on picks in all rounds.

Our average age together is under 2 years at this point. After next year, we'll be under 3 years. So that said, a more realistic expectation is a year or 2 out from contention. And I use "realistic" loosely. That's like a minimum.
