What did Roy do to the Habs that was so bad? I don't recall him having a contract falling out with them that made for his departure but it's been a long time so refresh the memory please.

I can add to Ton's quote on this one. Actually the Wangs were involved in this one.

Roy was playing a home game against Detroit that ended up being his last in the Red, White and Blue. The Wings pasted him 9-1 and THEN the Habs coach pulled him after that so he had to hear the chorus of boooos. Back then in the old Forum, there was no glass behind the Habs bench and the Habs President sat in the first row right behind the bench. Roy dumped his gloves off and went over to the team's brass and got in their face and said "I will never play another game for the Habs again!" The team's brass was as hard-headed as Roy and said "OK, if that's what you want...that's what you get." So they traded him.

Then he haunted the Wings (and Habs) for years after they traded him to Denver. Carma exists.

EDIT...I thought they left him in all night but he actually got pulled in the 2nd. Couple interesting asides here. You'll see Greg Johnson score a goal here. He played for the Hawks and his brother Ryan may play for us tonight. Also...the goalie going the other way from Colorado was Joc Thibault. HAH!

Like I have said before. I can not hate Chelios and I certainly don't have any hate for Roenick. It seems like the only people that take offense to what Chelios has done in the past are the bleeding hart Chicagoians. Nothing wrong with that but I just don't get it. Guess if I was a born and raised with Chicago blood I would understand it all. But as far as I know this game is a business and it's not rare for any pro athelete to do what Chelios did in this sport or any other.

He was a great Blackhawks and put 100% effort in every night he put that sweater over his head. No one can deny that and the same people who hate Chelios are the same ones that say they don't care about anything but how hard a player works game in and game out. A tad bit hypocritical.

Shit happened eons ago anyways. Move on people...move the **** on. Sound like a bunch of Canuck fans who still cry and moan about 94. LAME!!

I wouldn't be a Hawks fan if not for guys like Chelios so yah there it is in a nutshell. That's my opinion and that's a fact about my fandom. No one can tell me I have to dislike Chelios, but I guess I can't tell anyone they have to like him.

But for real. It's really fucking weird that people cling to this stuff. I am sure Chelios himself gives 2 fucks about what people think about it all and I am sure no one here knows the entire truths and facts about the past. Just move the **** on. At the end of the day it just doesn't fucking matter one way or another. It actually becomes really fucking annoying to listen to to be honest. Hawks have so much to celebrate with regards to the franchise yet people get hung up on this crap? Lame sauce with extra chillies. Chellies Chillies.

Really the Hawks signed Ryan Johnson? OMG **** my life.

I'm sure most will feel differently about the subject but this is my take:

Roenick, forever in my mind is considered a Blackhawk first. Same as Belfour, Larmer, etc.. etc..

Chelios on the other hand... hes a Wang. I'm sure if you asked him, not even he would consider himself part of the "Blackhawks" family. Ask JR that question, bet he says he wishes his career ended here. There's a difference IMO, when I think of Chelios, I don't really picture him with a Hawks jersey anymore. Obviously I was also pretty young when he played, but even for JR I picture him in a Hawks uni. Nothing else.

Ladd, Buff, Niemi, and the bunch will always be remembered as Blackhawks because they accomplished something JR and Chelios never could. I have no hard feelings towards any of them.

<

JR bled Blackhawk red. He loved being a Hawk and has always said that regardless of where he went. He'll always be a Hawk to me.

Chelios was a good player for the Hawks, but his loyalty went out the window once he went to the Wings..........and he's still with them.. .

Yes TCD this Chelios bitching is old and hopefully will be dead after tonite but nobody was complaining about the whole thing until a certain someone decided this Chelios heritage nite would be a good idea, thus waking up an old stinky dog. So comparing it to Van fans complaining about 94, not the same, oh well, lets get the 2 pts tonite.

Will your feelings for Buff, Ladd, Niemi, etc be treated in the same way even though they were integral to us

winning the Cup and depending on what they may or may not do in the future?

My son requested and received a Ladd jersey at the beginning of last season. We had the Stanley Cup patch sewn on this summer. This jersey will always be special along with all of the players who were on that team.

They had no choice but to trade them. Salary Cap.

Cheli REQUESTED A TRADE.

Big difference there don't you think?

JR's only faults were he could/can never keep his mouth shut and his agent.

If not for JR's AGENT, he'd have never been traded.

I don't get the love for Roenick, but I was not a fan yet when he was playing. All I have to go on was his behavior last year during the playoffs. He behaved like a total tool and was obvious about choosing the Sharks and Flyers both over the Hawks. He was an ass at the Olympics too. He made the Millsbury Doughboy look good to me and I didn't think that was possible.

So I get home after the IceHogs game last night and watch the video of Cheli on the main page of the O's.

During the ceremony there is a long break where the video is rolling but the sound is cut out. Shortly thereafter

Chris makes a comment about bygones and he is still born and raised in Chicago and a Blackhawks fan.

It appears the boo birds were quite loud. Is that true for those there?

If that is true then two things come to mind. The first being how tasteless that is for our fans. I can understand the

passions that run deep but if the booing were that bad then they should have ignored the on ice portion and just

come in for the game. How tacky and pathetic we would look like as fans.

Second, I blame the bad reception of Chris squarely on the shoulders on the Blackhawks back office and McD.

Even though I think of Chris as a hockey player who played for us back in the day and a guy who gave hockey

everything he had until the age of 47, McD set this up to fail and it appears it did miserably. Why? Why? Why,

I keep asking myself would you have a heritage night the season after he retires as a player from our rivals

and who is still on the Wings payroll? I just don't get it, I really don't. Horrendous marketing idea and hope it

has fallout for McD.

I think it was kind of expected to happen. Only the front office seemed to be clueless about the reception Cheli would get. They're usually not thinking up there. Much like they weren't thinking Wed against Colorado and sounded the Hawks goal song with the Hawks still trailing by a goal with 0.5 seconds remaining in the game.

It happens all over sports. Its not the same but look at the last Sharks game, everytime Campbell touched the puck he was booed loudly.

As petty as the booing may seem Chelios is still seen as a Wing and this ceremony for him should have waited 5 years.

I agree with everything Ron said about the matter. This was too soon, he still works for the Wings, they should not have done this on a night when we were playing the Wings, and Cheli ASKED for the trade TO Detroit our arch rival for the last two decades (and really since 1926 - Original Six and all that).

I loved watching Chris play and he is truly a badass and had more assists before 40 than I think Keith or Seabrook will ever have in their careers (whether or not they play till 47 years old).

One thing I think he could have said (not on the ice, but in the booth chat or in the papers) was that he left because of what WWW and Bob Murray/Bob Pullford were doing to this team. I would understand/forgive a whole lot easier if he was honest about things...but then I guess he wouldn't be a hockey player. They are bred to keep their mouth shut about such things in respect for their bosses.

Either way though, my good memories are now tainted by almost ten years of seeing him in a white and red #24 jersey, blllleghk, I think I just threw up in my mouth....

**** CHELIOS! I am so glad he got fucking booed yesterday and it obviously got him butthurt as he made some dumbfuck comment like "lets let bygones be bygones".... I wish he still played for the Wolves so I could heckle him some more.

Roenick on the other hand I do NOT hate.

Like I said to RK picking a team to win and wanting a team to win is to different things. so what JR felt the flyers and Sharks were going to beat the hawks, I think it was obvious after it was all said and done the team he wanted to win did. Last nights game I would have bet on the wings and I would have wanted the hawks t win. Last week I picked the Pats in the football pool but I wanted Chicago to win.

Before Cheli's last season he said he would like to come back to the hawks organization at some capacity. So I still think he wants to be around the hawks.Yes I know he works for the wings but I've only heard good about Mike Illitch as an owner and I'm sure there is some loyalty to the owner there.

Steve Yzerman when he left the wings organization went to Mike's house to personally tell him

If there is hate for Chelios and how he left, why is there not hate for JR and how he left? JR had a major and intregal part to his departure. JR could have stayed a 'Hawk (and making no more than $250k/yr over the 'Hawks public offer to JR says volumes about that situation).

I know that Chelios asked for a trade, but the writting was on the wall for him. The team was going with a youth movement and at the age of 37 Chelios was not going to fit into those plans. I suspect the team was going to trade him anyway, and really they could have sent him to a far worse team than one that was ultra competitive (yes I think the 'Hawks did him a favor with that trade...even perhaps a thank you for your years of strong service, and best of luck with a far better team).

Did Chelios request a trade to the red wings or did he just request a trade in general? Makes a big difference. That means Wirtz/Pulford chose to trade him to the wings.

edit: I guess Murry was GM at the time of the trade.

His agent negotiated the trade with the **** Wings.

Chelli's greasy mitts are all over this one.

Because as I said it was JR's agent that was at fault for him leaving. No question about it. He lied to Bill Wirtz flat out. And that got JR traded.

The only Hate or disdain I have for JR is he could never keep his fucking mouth shut.
