Tons of ground balls. A double play. Mostly weak contact.

This must be Volstad's bad inning.

Yeah, a couple of hard luck hits there.... and that's how it begins with Volstad.

May be too much to ask for some strikes that don't suck.

Yup... 3-run triple for Bourn... and still no outs.

That ball was hit well. I don't think a competent RF would've been able to keep that from being a triple.

But it also was just in the line. Volstad isn't good, but it seems like whenever he gets into the trouble the balls drop in against him.

Volstad has pissed off the BABIP gods.

Well all those good feelings have gone away. It seemed like perhaps Volstad might turn a corner tonight, but typical Volstad Act.

At least there have been some good at bats and results from Rizzo, Sori, and LaHair.

No joke. Just about everything he gives up when he's not walking guys seems to just be bad luck. Can we find a bucket of chicken for him already?

Of course I'll be the asshole to say that the Rockies are winning and the Cubs need a buffer for the #1 spot even though they own the tiebreakers over both the Padres and the Rockies.

Maybe get him to apologize to his wife... so she won't curse the balls against him?

I think you gotta get the live chicken.

If he was allowed to pitch enough to qualify I think he would end up with a historically low LOB%. I mean seriously I went back 10 years and I found like 3 or 4 guys with under 60%. Volstad I think was sitting in the 40% when we sent him down.

I think there's only so much you can blame on BABIP and LOB%. He's making his own luck sometimes. Those pitches aren't located very well.

Valbuena helps to limit the damage.

I agree that he isn't very good. I just find it fascinating how much of an outlier he is.
