5-1 since the announcement. 4 game winning streak and the Braves suckitude on Monday was more powerful than the Cubs overall suckiness.

Doug Padilla:

OFF BEAT: The latest Starlin Castro mental lapse might not be as bad as it seemed. Castro hesitated after a fielding a ground ball from Dan Uggla, holding it so long that Uggla was eventually safe at first base. The culprit? It appeared that because Anthony Rizzo was stationed far away from the first-base bag on the shift, Castro had to wait to make the throw. Manager Dale Sveum talked to Castro and Rizzo after the half inning.

I'd rather see Jay Jackson pitch in the big leagues than Volstad.

great game by Shark

its nights like this that get Cub fans thinking

1: FA (Greinke/Hamels)
2: Garza
3: Shark
4: Wood
5: FA/spec

then they just need to hit on Jackson next year and sign 1 or 2 FA

oh to dream lol

If they can manage to trade Soriano...

Sign Bourn and two of Greinke/Hamels/Jackson/Sanchez/Haren (if he become available). Then focus on an upgrade at either 3B, 2B, or C either through FA or trade. I'd prefer 2B, because I do think that at this point Vitters just might be on his way to making the club next year... and I think we have a strong future behind the plate with Clevenger/Castillo.

CF Bourn*
SS Castro
1B Rizzo*
LF LaHair*
3B Vitters
C Castillo/Clevenger#
RF DeJesus*
2B Upgrade over Barney

Greinke/Hamels
Jackson/Sanchez/Haren
Garza
Smardie
Wood

This would fill the gap in CF and leadoff until Szczur is ready (and he's on a quick climb right now). DeJesus holds RF until Jackson is ready. LaHair holds LF until Soler/Almora/Candelaria is ready.

All that you need is a couple of upgrades on the bench, and some arms on the farm to develop for the pen... and you have a potentially competitive team next year, and certainly for 2014.

It's too bad Jay Jackson sucks more than Volstad.

Oh wait, this is a clever ploy for the #1 pick...
