When you say "sign off on" if you mean he has final say then that's a no, but if you mean Poles would ask if this guy fits what Johnson wants on the team then yes he'll get his voice heard for sure. pretty sure all teams work like that.

Put yourself in Poles shoes. Would you sign players that Johnson didn’t want? It’s that simple.

If you’re talking about the contract language it probably is still Poles right to do that.

100 % ??

Note to self....take Rise's comments with a grain of salt.

Johnson will have a say sure, but the FINAL decision will be Poles.

Not like I wouldn't want your scenario considering some of Poles' selections.

If Poles went against Johnson that’s a fast track to be fired. He would be an all time moron to do that.

Just put yourself in his shoes and think about it.

If I'm going to put myself in his shoes, I'm damn sure to make one thing certain: if I'm going to get fired, it's going to be because of the people I pick, not because of the people the head coach I hired picks.

Like I said, it's clear this will be a collaboration regarding player selection, but if you think the final say will be Johnson and not Poles, to me, it's either wishful thinking or possibly you are out of your mind.

I'm leaning towards the former because you don't look like a paranoid schizophrenic on first glimpse.

You talk about stawman and then proceed to present a strawman. You’re stupid I’ve already explained why. I’d have to break this down step by step and it’s pointless because you can’t comprehend it.

You think Poles has absolute power and Eberflus and Johnson are the same type of hire. I don’t. I believe end of the day Poles will do what Johnson wants if they disagree.

what else is their to say other than bickering back and forth? I’ll pass.
No, I did not present a strawman. I told you what your argument was re: GM vs HC pay, and showed why it's wrong. It you want links, I can provide them. The highest paid GMs make basically what the lowest paid HCs make. Eberflus made way more than Poles.

And no, I don't think Poles has absolute power. If I did, show where I wrote that. I think that in both situations the GM and HC work together with the scouting depts. They dynamics will be different because the people are different, but there's going to be power sharing in any arrangementr.

What I think you don't have faith in Poles (understandable), so you are trying to convince yourself that Johnson is some totally different entity who is going to sweep in and take charge and then Super Bowl.

I hope so, But I'm not willing to make crazy arguments about power arrangements based on untrue assumptions about pay to convince myself of that.

I think Poles doesnt have much choice but to give Johnson who he wants. The only way he can lose his job is if Johnson hates him or he goes against what Johnson wants and it fails.

If he gives Johnson what he wants then hard to see a scenario where he is fired because any failed pick is going to be because that is who Johnson wanted. If Poles is smart you make sure there is zero gap between you and the new 13m a year HC.

You know this whole thing started because I tried to write a nice post agreeing with you and you took the one little thing you disagreed with and ran with it.

Only a moron would think Poles will make ANY roster decision without Johnson’s approval. He is on incredible thin ice. But even beyond that it’s a stupid way to run business.

I believe he consulted Eberflus as well. I believe Eberflus is an idiot and I think Johnson is smart. So I expect Poles to look better as a result.

I honestly think he's well-suited as a defensive coordinator.
As long as it’s for someone else’s team! His bend but don’t break super soft zone was insufferable, second only to his awful end of game D!

No one thinks that Poles is going to make any roster decisions without collaborating with Johnson. Ad I don't think you agreed with me.

But yes, you can watch football. Just thought the idea of getting paid more and that's what makes Johnson have say was really strange.

I will say I don't think it's going to be that much different. I think that GM and HC always work closely.

Anyway, enjoy the game.

when Eberflus was hired Poles was the man. When Johnson got hired he is the man. That doesn’t mean they don’t work together. Maybe this is just the way I wrote it but I hope that clear it up.

Enjoy the game!

Players aren’t in the front office.

I’m 100% certain Johnson gets the final say and will be directing Poles to get him the players he wants. This is not dysfunction it’s how it should be.
And how it is, and has been, all around the league. Those who always absolved Lovie for misses by Angelo were clueless. Lovie wanted all those awful defensive selections that were complete throwaways, picks that could have been used to build and rebuild a competent offensive line. But so many of Lovie/Angelo’s picks were on D; it was maddening.
