That's pretty damn young for an OC too. Interesting hire for OC. The only info I found so far basically is that he spent 4 years in New Orleans as an "offensive assistant" for his first NFL job and then the last 2 years with Sean Payton in Denver as the TE coach.

Ben Johnson is the 'real' OC here anyway, but still kinda headscratching to me on the Doyle hire. I wasn't as sold as some on David Shaw necessarily being a great choice, but this is definitely on the opposite end of the experience spectrum.

As I think about it a little more, I am wondering if Doyle was preferred as he would not get in the way so to speak of what Ben Johnson wants to do? Ie, he will do what he is told to do and not be a confusing voice to Caleb with his own ideas of how a QB should be developed? I am just going back to idea of someone like Shaw probably had his own ideas or own way of wanting to do things that may not have aligned with how Ben Johnson will want things done.

Hope he picked up some good stuff from SP

Really don't like the Doyle hire. As a first year HC, I would have preferred he surround himself with more coaches that have head coaching experience, or at least experience in general. A 28 year old OC is crazy, even if he's not calling plays. He's still going to be in charge of a lot throughout the week in managing the entire offense.

Sean Payton is an elite offensive coach so snatching a guy like Declan that has been groomed by him for years is always a smart move.

Declan Doyle has got to be the most clown name in nfl history but ok. At least we got Allen.

Hopefully he has no family so he can grind tape at all hours without his wife giving him shit.

Yeah, I was just googling and seeing what was out there on him. There is not really that much - just that Sean Payton hired him in New Orleans to replace Joe Brady, he stayed in New Orleans for a year when Dennis Allen was HC and then Doyle followed Payton to Denver once Payton took that job.

So yeah, he's basically worked for Sean Payton for 5 out of his 6 years of coaching experience.

Still somewhat surprising to me to hire him as the OC, but all we can do is trust that Ben Johnson knows what he wants and this can work.

Declan Doyle is that son of a serial killer from criminal minds that Emily Prentiss was involved in when she was undercover.

He must have a killer offense.

I doubt he will be getting hired as a head coach for several years at least.

Ben said specifically that he wanted someone to do all the ground work and scouting through the week so it is set up for him to tweek and go through to call plays on the weekend.

He wanted someone that is systematic and organized...He must have found him. Ben still has all the final say on everything offense

Thought David Shaw had a legit chance at OC.

He got used as a Rooney Rule twice, really sucks, such a stupid rule.

Yeah, that is probably the least of the worries with the Doyle hire. And even if it was, imo, that's the entire point of hiring an offensive minded HC, so that if you lose the OC, you don't have to change the offense anyway.

Yeah, I get that. At the same time, it does get his name back out there as you had not heard anything with him in a couple of years and at least according to wiki, he hasn't coached since 2022. He actually moved into some sort of front office role with Denver.

So, maybe this gets him other chances? I dunno

If Poles went against Johnson that’s a fast track to be fired. He would be an all time moron to do that.

Just put yourself in his shoes and think about it.
Poles has final say. All the other stuff about whether BJ has a say is just common sense because of course he does but the final say is Poles' if it came to it.

I am not familiar with Declan Doyle. He worked for Sean Payton, which should be a good thing, but for a short period of time.

I won't assume he's a rising star or a bad coach simply based on being 28.

I won't assume he's great simply because "Ben Johnson wanted him". Ben wanted Fraley who stayed with Detroit. We don't know whether Ben's next choice was Shaw and they couldn't come to terms.

And I am not going to dismiss the importance of an OC simply because BJ is going to call plays. But if KC can win super bowls with Matt Nagy I guess we know a HC calling plays is the important cog.

I am glad they have their coordinators hired. Let's hope Doyle is a good offensive coach.

Now find a good OL coach. I know our talent on the OL was far from what we want, but as bad as the pay has been I have to believe scheme and technique played into the poor play at least to some degree.
