I think the high number of interview requests is a reflection of the new interview rules and they have to wait until 20-January before they can do any in person interviews.

If you have to wait that long anyway, might as well talk to more folks while you wait and just do some due diligence.

Think speaking about another teams OC and potential next HC is more news worthy than “players talk” about your own/previous coaching staff. Williams didn’t have to say anything about Johnson. Williams had to speak to the media when asked about Flus/Waldron.
Like I said, not newsworthy. He’s would have spoken glowingly about any coach they asked him about.

He could have declined the question. He was not obligated to answer it. The fact he did shows he has a lot of respect for Johnson. That is newsworthy when the Bears are in the middle of a HC search and Johnson possibly being the top candidate.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Mayo looked bad, but is it fair to have groomed him as the succession plan, give him the worst roster in the NFL, and then fire him after one season? If anything, i'd say they handled Maye pretty well

Unfortunately....I read the rumor where Kraft was pissed Mayo didn't lose that last game so the Pats could a higher first round draft pick.

Always like "what"?

What is embarrassing?

What's embarrassing is a bunch of people who wouldn't know the first thing about hiring someone to an important, high-profile position telling others how they should go about it.

Not doing due diligence and people cry they are negligent

Interviewing a bunch of people to do due diligence and its embarrassing

Never change bears fans.

It is embarrassing because it’s a bunch of moronic interviews. They haven’t even asked for Kingsbury, Brady, or Coen but David Shaw gets one? Weaver? Etc

Yeah sorry I have zero confidence in Poles, he chose Eberflus who knows where this ends up.

Not buying that one… the firing note came out too quickly and was almost certainly pre-written.

Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!

I have never been able to figure out what David Shaw has done to get people to think he’s a great coach.

I still don't see how Kafka makes more sense than this guy. He's been with the Bears before so he knows the city and media. Is a Tomlin and Arians disciple, and cut his teeth coaching the o-line.

The number of candidates isn't the important thing. You can interview 100 and get it wrong. You can interview three and get it right.

They haven't always done it the same way, but you're convinced they have.

I want the right new coach. I am not getting upset about whether they're interviewing candidate A before B or B before A.

Would anyone be surprised if they hired Mike McCarthy? lol, what a shitshow
Yes I would be surprised, because McCarthy doesn't actually want the job and this is his agent trying to force Jerry Jones to get a new deal done, maybe with a year or two more than he has offered so far.

Why the Bears are interviewing literally everyone in the known universe is because they don't really know what they have or how the league views them and are trying to gauge the market.

They will eventually narrow it down to a handful of candidates but it won't happen as soon as everyone wants and they may lose out, which wouldn't be the first time in recent memory.

The thing that annoys me is whether Poles is any good or not it should still be the GM's decision but Warren/ownership can't stay out of it which muddies the process.

This is my problem as well. They don’t seem to know what to look for. If they get a good HC it’s purely luck.

It’s like me trying to hire a brand new sales person and start asking anyone loosely connected to the profession to interview.
