The number of candidates isn't the important thing. You can interview 100 and get it wrong. You can interview three and get it right.

They haven't always done it the same way, but you're convinced they have.

I want the right new coach. I am not getting upset about whether they're interviewing candidate A before B or B before A.

Imagine you own the Bears and your GM wants you to waste time interviewing Kafka in this cycle.

Vrabel
Johnson
Flores
Glenn
Carrol
Bellichek! (lol they didn’t even want to talk!)
Brown (this is the courtesy one he earned it)
Kingsbury
Coen
Brady

Thats still a pretty big list you taking Kafka, Shaw, Weaver, Smith probably more Im forgetting over any of these guys? You will talk to them but no interest in Bellichek for a conversation? Yeah we are in great hands.

Some want a young up and coming coach, others criticize when they interview such people. And God forbid, they ask to talk to someone CCS hasn't already talked about!

Some don't want retreads, others criticize when they don't interview experienced (aka fired) former head coaches.

I'm not saying I am excited about the OC from NYG, but I know nothing about him.

There's no magic formula. They've definitely screwed up in the past. No argument there. But the number of people or order of interviews and some of this other crap people are already worried about just doesn't matter.

Bears ask to talk with McCarthy:

Honestly with some of the clowns the Bears are requesting to interview, wouldn't be the worst if it's McCarthy.

I would look at Rex Ryan if he's actually serious about coming back.

Vrabel is my #1 choice

We also should be talking to Pete Carol about GM

100% agree. Sadly I have McCarthy as #3 on my list. Would rather not him be HC but would also take him over a lot of either guys.

McCarthy is a solid coach. We could do a lot worst than him. He's also very good with developing QBs and since Caleb idolizes Aaron Rogers, you're going to get instant buy-in from him.

In addition, McCarthy is the one who changed some of Aaron's throwing motions and foot work. I can't believe we're saying no to McCarthy because we want to roll the dice on whiz kid Ben Johnson who could easily have low grade autism.

This is getting into the weeds a bit, but as for a major reason why I don't want McCarthy.

Check out the Next Gen Stats passing charts for the Dallas Cowbows under McCarthy (Click on the links to see it):

Look Familiar? No? Let me help you out.

I don't want to go back to that offense. He tells his QBs to avoid throwing over the middle if they can help it, and is way too conservative as a coach. He's Lovie Smith the sequel - great at being a regular season bum-slayer, but not cut out for the big time.

In that case, someone get him a CCS handle ASAP.. he'll fit right in here

I feel McCarthy is a bit unfairly killed by public perception. I think the standard in Dallas makes it so that it's a failure if he doesn't win it all. But, that team isn't that great. Dak is an ok QB that McCarthy made into the highest paid QB, and player, in football. How many first round picks does that offense even have? 2nds? I think they're currently starting two undrafted linemen. There's this perception that the offense is high-powered (I know this was a down year), but it's really cause of what he's put together... He's a better winner than anyone in recent Bears history.

I get it's not a sexy pick, but I too probably have him on the list over the random unknowns. I think we need to have a solid floor with this new HC.

WTF does autism have to do with anything? He’s working in the NFL while you sit behind your computer attempting to talk sh*t. Yeah, that makes you look like an idiot.

I’d be fine with McCarthy but there are other candidates I’d rather have first.

I agree. I don't think McCarthy is a horrible hiring especially if we can't get Ben Johnson or Mike Vrabel. He was put in a horrible situation in Dallas on a team that might be more messed up from the top down then even the Bears are.

My only thing would be with McCarthy is i'd like him to come in as the head coach but not the play caller and get a legit guy to be the OC for him. I don't think i'd hate him as the play caller but would rather him bring in his guy to do that. But he's an offensive guy, players love him and he would bring the leadership qualities needed as the HC.
