It’s an extension doesn’t take effect until next year. His cap hit won’t change this year..
He‘s just getting a signing bonus this year, also remember Cliff Stein is the GOAT capologist..

1/5 of the SB hits this year so will increase his cap hit as SB is allocated in year signed.
I think most wanted Kmet extended. The only goober who was vocal about not extending him was Remy, which shouldn't surprise anyone since its Remy.

Deal is fair value for both parties imo.
No there were a few of us. However unlike you I won't start call out threads because people disagree with me like you did with Trubisky. Talk about being a goober.

I wonder what Justins asking price is going to be, so much for that cap space talk

a cleaner of a friend of his sisters friend said Justin will take a hometown discount.. so look for 5 years 300 mil.

A little more than I would have liked to see but as I said during draft night, he was going to solidly fill a position for the next 10years.

Cole Kmet is our Kyle Rudolph. Nothing elite but just solid and dependable in every facet.

He was the 7th TE in fantasy last year.

Got the 9th highest TE contract. And is 24.

Sounds like he got basically about what he's worth? Fair deal for both sides.

Njoku and Engram both got more, and I'd take Kmet over both of them.
Problem is done here are judging this by what he’s done from years 1-3 but not by what they should be looking at. Year 3 and the potential to grow.

Possibly, but the great part is that he's only 24 and still has a ton of room to grow.

Most TE's dont really hit their stride till around 25-27. Its always been the position, outside of QB, that takes by far the longest to develop.

I'm just happy that it got done.

Agreed. Kyle Rudolph is what he basically is now, but his YAC ability has improved yearly. His Average depth of target aint shabby either, he's just not explosive.

Jason Witten was one of the greatest ever and had a similar play style to Kmet too.

He’s been durable, good reliable hands, and he’s a likeable local dude. Thrilled to have him, hoping he thrives as this offense improves.

Let's be honest, he has not earned it.
wasn't you asking for Hurst?
Let's be real, who the hell else is available at this deal??
he's 24 y/o and HAS MORE BEARS BLOOD IN HIS PINKY THAN YOU DO IN YOUR ENTIRE BODY.

Yeah....don't know about this. I mean what are they basing this extension on? Is he going to be seeing the ball alot this season? Catching a lot of tds in Redzone? Helping Fields development? He's young? If it's strictly about the potential of those things then ok, or him being a core player then ok. I get it. But are they thinking he can be a top ten TE?...IDK...

I guess my thinking is, that who deserves a big extension on a side of a ball that was historically low producing? There are questions that need to be answered at EVERY single position on the offense(outside of maybe RB). To me everyone on offense has something to prove right now...

I will play the Switzerland card and neither be for nor against this, but if it works out I'll take the credit like I knew it was always going to work. Just call me Remy...lol...I KID...

BEARS

Red zone threat.
Everybody be forgetting shit, all good.
But it's not just that, he improved (catch raidus and lucky grabs) and really it's some continuity for Justin.

Alright boys!! go clear the brane and sit down for 3 minutes and watch this if you suffer from CRS.
2022 AIR COLE 5 REDZONE REC-TD's & 1 52yd REC-TD
@ 1:07 not safe for work...52 yd td
@ 1:24 Cole "Air Jordan" Kmet..fucking beautiful.
ONE REC-TD IS MISSING.

Almost forgot, Gesty ran back field packages with Cole. Remember, Kmet took a few snaps from center also.

I've been (relatively) vocal on this forum that despite some posters hopes to shoehorn Kmet into a Kittle/Kelce type - I think he has more Austin Hooper in his game than anything else. Hooper signed a 4 year/$42M contract in 2020. Hooper was probably a little bit better in 2020 than Kmet is now, and $50M is probably a little bit higher growth than you'd ideally like, but both are close enough that I wont nitpick and say thats more or less what these types of TEs go for in todays NFL. Garaunteed money is a lot higher, i dont know how much of that is influenced by the Bears pressing need to add cash to hit the 3 year floor, but if they can limit the dead money in years 4 and 5 i can really get behind the contract. With that said, Bears need to draft a decent TE in 2024 so that if they do need to cut and run the replacement is already on the roster with some experience under his belt.

Interesting. Looks like his cap hit is evenly spaced. I would have figured they'd front load it.
