**** draft picks, this team has holes to fill or else it'll be another first round exit again.

Yea! The draft never gave the Blackhawks anyone worthwhile...

Damn glad you aren't in charge one bit.

I have no issue with the Blackhawks trading draft picks...but it better be a smart move. Kubina, who is a UFA after this year, is not worth a 2nd + 4th + player (had to add in for cap reasons).

You are officially not allowed to be happy for any deal Stan makes (and I'm guessing you wont be).

A trade just for the sake of a trade is not a good move.

There are some stupidly-high asking prices for players right now. Tell me, Capt. Serious, who can the Hawks get to make them into a Cup contender RIGHT NOW.

If that player isn't there, then I see no reason to make the move.

sure, for a team that has minimal amount of holes on the roster. The hawks actually need to make a move to have a descent chance of winning the stanley cup, not just for the sake of it.

We will make a move, I'm kinda glad the hawks are waiting for price on guys to go down. Hopefully a couple more teams become sellers and their are more trade options available.

Sorry Dews, Im just not seeing it. I see holes in goal, at center and on the backline...to me thats substantial not minimal. There's no one out there that can plug the holes. Say they go out and get somebody...at this point in time they would certainly be over paying for him...and it helps them. To what end? Win a round? Maybe two, if they're lucky? I just dont see them as a Cup contender. If I thought a trade would get them to the Finals, I'd be all for it. But there's no trade out there that will do that.

you misunderstood what I was trying to say. There are a lot of contenders in the NHL. If you break down some of the top tier teams, they are by no means perfect. just look at the nucks and the wings, if they as is and dont obtain something crazy and we add, we are close.

Would I like a new goalie? yes. But if we obtain a dman that would help our goalie situation no? a 2nd line center is a must.

Lets say they dont do anything, 2nd round competitive series IF they are lucky.

dman- could get to 3rd and than lose

dman/goalie- competitve 3rd round

dman/goalie/2nd line center- finals worthy

maybe i was a bit nice when i said minimal, im just using the comparison of holes on other teams compared to ours.

Do I think stan is going to get what we need? no

If anything we will obtain a burish like player and maybe a 4 dman, nothing that really makes us win the stanley cup, the ultimate goal.

I don't see those players available, particularly the 2nd line center. And if they do become available, they're going to come at a very, very high price because of the demand.

Think big picture here, guys. Do the Hawks have holes? Sure. But you also need to realize that some of the potential fills for those holes are already in the Blackhawks farm system. Danault and McNeill could be that future 2nd line center. Brandon Saad (who's tearing up the OHL, by the way) could be another top 6 forward. Dylan Olsen looks like he could be, at worst, a solid 5th or 6th defenseman and could even crack the top 4 someday. I've also heard a lot of good things about Adam Clendening and Stephen Johns, two more D-men.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The Hawks stocked up on picks during the post-Cup purge, and have a pretty solid farm system right now.

THAT is how you build a solid franchise. You grow from within. Just look at Detroit: a roster full of homegrown talent. You don't see the Red Wings making huge moves near the deadline because they allow their farm players to grow into those roles and become the future of the franchise. Also helps keep their cap situation in check.

Here's the tl;dr version: There may not be the players the Blackhawks need available at the trade deadline. So why trade your prospects for temporary fixes when you could have a much more permanent fix in a year or two? It's like this is an aging team looking for one last Cup run.

And remember that hockey isn't all that unlike other pro sports lately. It's not always the best team that wins. Sometimes, it's just a team that gets hot at the right time. We all saw what the Hawks did to the Rangers in the first period. When they're on, they can run with anybody.

Remember how awful the Hawks were in the first 3 games against Vancouver last year, and how dominant they were in 4 and 5? If they can find consistency, ya just never know what could happen ...

Exactly. The core of this team is still young. Trading off promising young players will begin to destroy whats been built. Dont trade them for rent-a-players that are available. Eventually, this team will hit a cap wall again...have good, young players with small cap hits available when the time comes when they have to dump salaries. They can keep this thing going for awhile if they do things the right way.

Just a thought...

I know there have been the rumors about Oduya to the hawks, but maybe we can inquire about Evander Kane also?

Kane would look mighty nice in the indian head and Peg's GM knows our minor leagues quite well

idk, id be happy with Oduya, but if we can somehow get Evander Kane too I would love that

Anyone else get the feeling that a 2C might benefit the Blackhawks more than a #4/5 dman?

not particularly

I'm torn between it.

If the Blackhawks are a puck possession team and they get a 2C to go along with Hossa (who needs better than Kruger/Brunette) then in a way their improved offense is/should help out the defense.

Hope that makes sense.

Should be interesting, 1 week to go.

I'm split too but I lean toward defense. Would bringing in a Ruutu open the door for Sharp to play C again? Plus, D is just more important in the playoffs.. especially when the hawks could face the top 2 powerplays in van and nash. PK is just so huge in the post season. I want minute eating defense there.

what's more interesting than what we fans want is the price and ease of acquiring a center vs a defenseman at this deadline.

Supposedly Sharp has made it clear to management and coaching staff that he wants nothing to do with center.
