^Bowman isn't dumb, no matter how much you like to think he is. Don't worry about it.

right, because there cant be a dumb GM, owners cant make mistakes on their front office hires? please. If he doesnt pull off a dman and a 2nd line center this team is a 2nd round team at best, not a stanley cup contender.

4 game win streak better not mean no deals.

a lot of fans on the radio and the blogs I have been reading are worried about this, that stan will think that it was a bit of a fluke with the losing streak. lets all hope he makes some noise, we all know other teams are.

There's a fine balance to being a GM.

You must juggle handling your team's needs without mortgaging the future. I hope Stan is keeping this in mind. I'm not too worried about this, because I'll bet that if he isn't, his father is. Scotty Bowman knows a thing or two about hockey, I hear.

If the market isn't there, don't overbuy just to run to the Cup this year. This team has A LOT of time left. It'd also be nice if they can handle the salary cap a bit better this time around, too.

Yeah, but at somepoint you have to look at your roster and the main guys in the lineup and ask yourself: does this team have a better shot at winning now or 5 years from now?

If the answer is now, risking the future a bit isn't the worst idea.

Also, at some point, you have to make some moves not only to help your team but to also prevent your competitors from getting stronger. Would Ruutu solve every Hawks problem? No. Would you rather see him land on the Hawks than the Sharks? I would.

JJ at HB is reporting that the Segal trade could be for something bigger the Blackhawks are trying to pull off (according to his sources and what he has heard).

The Blackhawks did lose a contract # in that deal, even though I think they were at 48 already so they still had some room.

Hopefully it will be an interesting next 5 days.

Vermette, Gill, Quincey, Moore....all for 2nd round picks(and one late first round pick). Can't wait to get bounced in the 1st round.

haha didn't you just post this over at HB?

If you were in charge I get a feeling that the Blackhawks wouldn't have one draft pick for the next few years...wasted away on rental players that won't be re-signed.

Still 5 days until Bowman gets judged in my eyes. Early Monday afternoon I'll have my opinion on the trades. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, o well.

you will know your GM once monday is over. He had a horrible offseason, and now he may just pick up a burish type player, which would be stupid. hopefully he proves us all wrong. remember, the hawks team that won the cup wasnt his.

Which is why I say give him 5 days until people rip him apart.

Look, there are needs for this team and I think everyone realizes it. I'm sure Stan is working the phones hard and hopefully a few things fall his way. Things may not go his way but at the end of the day it is his job to put himself in the best position to make sure they do.

I'll give him a few more days too. There are really only 2 selling teams right now, so that could be a big issue of why no deal has been made. But if he is just going to upgrade the 1st line then I won't expect us to get far into the playoffs.

From JJ at HB...

"Just heard: Hawks might have a deal for a good 2nd line C close (as in it has been offered to them) waiting on details"

I get the feeling that it could be Brassard.

EDIT: Just added that it would be a 1C on many teams. Possibly Stastny?

All I seen from people drooling over the 'depth'.

Well that so called 'depth' has them in 4th place in the division.

Go out & get Monty & play fucking trash with him.

The forward group doesn't have much missing, the D depth is horrendous which I said could be a problem

Via Bob McKenzie...

"Assuming no hiccups, Ruuttu expected to get a 4-year extension with a slight bump on the $3.8M he's currently earning. #TradeCentre #tsn"

Looks like Ruutu is going to be off the block
