I thought I read that Ruutu had a concussion anyways, and that took him off the market.

(Plus Vermette for a 2 rounder- -would have taken a first rounder from Chicago at the time -- namely because a 2 rounder from Columbus would be a high round pick -and a much lower round pick from Chicago).

Although I agree he would have looked nice in an Indian head jersey.

I really wouldn't mind seeing Riberio either. Good playmaking skills to go along with Hossa. Not big on his salary tho

..ok -well ditch the Vermette comment- as clearly I did not check the actual news .... yeah I agree - Vermette would have been nice. Would have been nice a couple of seasons ago as well.

Follow me @jaeckel

After being branded a Stan Bowman Hater this morning, I am glad to be able to tell you, late reports convince me the Hawk GM is, in fact, swinging for the fences on some big name players.

At this point, I can't divulge the big name center the Hawks are said to be discussing this afternoon. When I can, I will.

If the Hawks can make this deal, it would automatically improve their power play and create a fairly big matchup problem for other teams in the playoffs— and provide a nice insurance policy if Jonathan Toews' health issue becomes long-term.

This transaction, if it happens, could wait until the deadline as it would be a fairly major move both on and off the ice (financially). And, although the other club made it known to the Hawks the player was available, the actual intent of the team is not completely clear at this point. But make no mistake, the player involved would improve the Hawks fairly dramatically, even strength and on at least one special team.

Some other information I heard this afternoon tells me Bowman has multiple irons in the fire for bigger players.

One offer the Hawks apparently had put together recently for a player whose identity I do not know apparently included two significant prospects and a 2nd round pick— so it was likely intended for a more significant asset than Kyle Quincey.

I will also add that the names I heard being offered suggest the Hawks have no sacred cows (beyond the core). Bowman is working on it and working hard on it. However, I also heard late today that one Hawk prospect, RW Jimmy Hayes, is moving to near untouchable status.

More as I have it,

JJ

just a tid bit

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Fire
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Arizona Wildcats
Getzlaf has the most team-friendly cap hit out of the "big names"

I'd be happy with Brassard from Columbus

My whispers are saying Hawks are pursuing Ana. defenseman Toni Lydman. He can play the right side.

Dont know much about this guy except he works for myfoxchicago.com

Lyman could be solid with Leddy. With hammer and montador as 5/6. That's pretty solid

Adrian Dater said if the Avs were to trade Stastny, they need almost equal salary coming back to stay above the cap floor.

I would say the hawks ar eout...we dont have 6 mil in salary to send them

doesnt really make you that much better. sure it is an improvement from what we have now. brassard DOES NOT put you in place to all of a sudden become a stanley cup contending team. No point in dealing anyone or any picks for a player like this unless you make another "impact" move.

Let me guess, we need another awesome board battling guy

If Getz is injury prone then so is Stastny. Getz has played 65+ games for atleast 5 years in a row.

Getz is easily the better player and has a better contract...id take him over Stastny.

Not True on bold, contract yes.

I tend to follow the trends on players, RG has played less games than PS in the last couple of seasons. I dont care if it was a fracture from a puck to the face. Just my opinion, if im drafting a team im taking statsny all day. last 2 seasons pretty much full seasons for PS, while RG was at 65.

4 of his 8 goals are on the PP, and having 8 goals on a line that really isnt that bad is a bit scary. will his passing help the PP, yeah.

Getz: OPS 1.8
Stastny: OPS 2.7 <<<<< which we really fucking need on this team

Getz: DPS 0.9
Stastny: DPS 1.1

^ Above is not a "WAR" for hockey. If you read about it is pretty dead on, and when you have gaps from one player to the other it does show who is the better overall player with both ends of the ice working.

I will repeat again, evaluations in any sport come from the following: Conventional Stats ( excluding in hockey GAA as for a single player since it is a team stat, and +/- which is subjective. than use advanced stats and or metrics, and the eye test. All by themselves used is very very stupid, you need to use all to gain the proper evaluation of a player.

TOI: 1078 for Stastny
TOI: 1306 For Getz

And yet the only thing he has is more assists, 10 more....lets stasny catch up on TOI and see where they are at. He is a better player before adjustments, and far better after.

He is an overall better player. The only thing that would make me hesitate after thinking about it is contract length.

Now if only there was a stat on "board battles"
