please be statsny!!! please!!!!! pretty please!
Follow me @jaeckel
After being branded a Stan Bowman Hater this morning, I am glad to be able to tell you, late reports convince me the Hawk GM is, in fact, swinging for the fences on some big name players.
At this point, I can't divulge the big name center the Hawks are said to be discussing this afternoon. When I can, I will.
If the Hawks can make this deal, it would automatically improve their power play and create a fairly big matchup problem for other teams in the playoffs— and provide a nice insurance policy if Jonathan Toews' health issue becomes long-term.
This transaction, if it happens, could wait until the deadline as it would be a fairly major move both on and off the ice (financially). And, although the other club made it known to the Hawks the player was available, the actual intent of the team is not completely clear at this point. But make no mistake, the player involved would improve the Hawks fairly dramatically, even strength and on at least one special team.
Some other information I heard this afternoon tells me Bowman has multiple irons in the fire for bigger players.
One offer the Hawks apparently had put together recently for a player whose identity I do not know apparently included two significant prospects and a 2nd round pick— so it was likely intended for a more significant asset than Kyle Quincey.
I will also add that the names I heard being offered suggest the Hawks have no sacred cows (beyond the core). Bowman is working on it and working hard on it. However, I also heard late today that one Hawk prospect, RW Jimmy Hayes, is moving to near untouchable status.
More as I have it,
JJ
Ryan Getzlaf. ray:
wont happen
not at 5.75 and 6.125 next year. i dont see the hawks doing that.
You shoot down Getzlaf for his salary but you were just begging for Stastny who makes $6.6
My whispers are saying Hawks are pursuing Ana. defenseman Toni Lydman. He can play the right side.
I say that because I prefer stastny over getzlaf.
Getzlaf would be a load on the 2nd line at 6'4".
Getzlaf has the most team-friendly cap hit out of the "big names"
I'd be happy with Brassard from Columbus
Al Cimaglia
Dont know much about this guy except he works for myfoxchicago.com
is he reliable?
injuries sir
If Getz is injury prone then so is Stastny. Getz has played 65+ games for atleast 5 years in a row.
Getz is easily the better player and has a better contract...id take him over Stastny.
