It basically amounts to if you as the GM decide to punt on the season, or think you have a legitimate chance of getting to where you want to go.

There is only one place you want to go in that situation -so just having a strong playoff run - it shouldn't really cut it anymore.

At this point, for me, there isn't any compelling reason to believe that the defense is good enough to compete, and/or that the offense is capable of overcoming the subpar defense.

If it were me, and there was a decent return on Bolland (or any one) -well, it is a business...

No fucking way you trade Bolland. Why trade a center on a team that already has so few?

Well, let's say you can swing a trade with Bolland that nets you a 2C.

All of a sudden you have Toews, 2C, Kruger, Mayers. Kruger is more in the spot that he needs to be for his skill set (solid defensive but no where to be seen offensively) and then the reason you trade for a 2C is because it is someone who can provide some spark offensively.

You have to give to get. Trading Frolik/Bickell isn't going to help this team out or solve their issues...but trading someone like a Bolland might be a step in the right direction.

campbells contract sucked, but he sure would look good back here. I knew he would be missed by us hawks fans, I knew we wouldnt miss his salary....but we need to use what we have available and start piecing this shit pile back together.

The only current issue I have with the Campbell trade is that the Blackhawks aren't using the cap space that Campbell held.

I would do that trade 100 times over...because it makes sense. What doesn't make sense is to pay your #3 dman over $7mil in the cap era.

Agree 100% on Campbell

Though his ability to be a top pairing guy and the rising cost of good - not great - defensemen certainly makes his ridiculous contract a bit less so.

Completely agree on the first part.

As for the second part .. Campbell was just the product of being a very, very big fish in a rather small FA D-men pond.

if Soupy was making 2 mil less, he'd still be here.

We had cap space from the deal & piss it away.

basically what we need is a DMAN, not a washed up "grinder" but a real dman.

We need a 2nd line center.

brunette needs to be off the PP

stalberg not on the top line

possibly a goaltender

oh, and maybe a W one of these days.

edit* too bad bickell and frolik suck so bad, i wouldnt mind them being gone as well

Slapnuts Ek says today: Rumor Nash to Kings..."Looks done"

Meanwhile...

Jaeckel says today: Got a late tip just after posting this from a top source: the Hawks are in on the Nash bidding; they are putting together a substantial offer for Blue Jacket management that I am told does not include Patrick Kane. Clearly, due to Nash's salary, it would have to include other core or near core player(s). More as I hear it.

Jaeckel isn't the rumor whore that Ek is (nobody is) and tends to give vague rumors regarding potential teams rather than concrete player names so this strikes me as interesting.

I would think that it would take something like...Sharp + Leddy + prospects. Or Bolland + Leddy + high end prospects. Stalberg? Frolik would have to go for cap purposes (maybe even Olesz). Possibly Montador for cap purposes.

Geez, I can't even think what it would take to get Nash.

Do remember, he has a cap hit of $7.8Mil (yes...even more than Campbell had)

I'd love Rick Nash if we didn't spend a fucking 12 yr deal on Hossa.

I know, reading about it makes it hard for me to wrap my head around obtaining a guy like that. I doubt it happens.

Im telling you, the time to move stalberg is now. His value is high as **** and I dont think he is as good as some of the members think. you have his stats, speed, and low cap hit....he has to interest someone out there now. :dunno:

No way Bolland is enough.

Sharp has to be the big name. Leddy and Stalberg would be very enticing... more so than prospects.

We can all argue all we want about Stalberg (please don't here), but he could be very valuable in any kind of deal.

edit: dew hit the stalberg nail on the head just before me.

Stalberg is probably one of the most valuable players in terms of trade value that the Blackhawks have.

Bolland + Stalberg + Leddy + Lalonde + Frolik for Nash+ someone?

Thing that hurts the Blackhawks is Nash has such a high cap hit while Stalberg has such a low one.

Really interesting...and just went through the Comments on HB of JJ and he said "My understanding is the Hawks were prepared to offer, or offered:

NHL players, AHL player, 1 top prospect

for

Nash
and another NHL player

I know the names, can't share. Better offer than L.A.'s, IMO "
