I wouldn't call it a no brainer by any stretch.

It's just frustrating to think about given the unsure goalie situation this team has had since the decision was made.

Seems like its never a no-brainer for this team. I've seen this before. Back in the late 80's a journeyman goaltender named Alain Chevrier came out of nowhere to lead the Hawks into the playoffs and actually win two rounds before getting beat by someone....Calgary? Anyway, the Hawks gave him a contract and I dont think he even lasted the whole next season. Just horrible...Im talking Huet like horrible.

Now you got Niemi doing nearly the same thing, except he finished what he started and won a Cup. I just kept thinking that he didnt have a good glove and he spent a lot of time on his knees and teams would just start shooting top shelf on him....plus I had Chevier in the back of my mind....ah, ****. They should have signed him, no getting around it. You can't let a young goalie with a Cup already under his belt just walk away. At the time I agreed with the move but it was just a terrible decision by Bowman & company. You can find defenseman but young championship goalies are a premium in this league.

In Chevrier's defense - how he performed after that playoff run was basically his statistical career norm - he didn't devolve or anything, that was what he was when he was traded for. He was a veteran and career backup goalie when the Hawks traded for him; it wasn't like they were trying to find a number one guy.

That's true, but after the excellent playoff series he had if memory serves they signed him to be the number 1 guy. I dont know the exact stats but his GAA had to be in the 4.50 range....he wasnt even good enough to be a backup. I do remember the Hawks brought up this older rookie goalie who turned out pretty well though. Ed Belfour

I imagine they probably did sign him to be a #1 after that -apparently Pulford thought that he discovered a nugget that apparently no one else had discovered - which based upon Pulford's track record, turned out to be wrong (he wasn't all that impressive at signings ... like the Jon Tonelli signing, I think he might have done Wendell Clark, and a few other more than washed up guys... Bob McMillan, etc - not sure if Pullywas responsible for Coffey- but there was Bob Mason who was supposed to be the absolute answer in goal (and luckily for him he signed Belfour as an undrafted free agent -or who knows who would have been in net in the 90's)....

Don't get me started on that dufus. A lot of people blame Bill Wirtz for running the franchise into the ground and to an extent they wouldnt be entirely incorrect. But he wasnt the main culprit. Wirtz was blindly loyal to Pulford and for a man who made millions in his lifetime, it always baffled me why. The first move Rocky Wirtz made after he took over was jetison Pulford's tired old ass...out of respect to his Dad, he didnt fire him but he cleared his ass out of anything hockey and marooned him somewhere in the Wirtz's monsterous liquor division...never to be heard from again.

Andy Strickland saying Ryan Miller has said he would waive no trade clause to go to Chicago

rumor is that it will take Craw+ another player (or 2 high prospects) and picks

If the Hawks trade either one of those guys, I'm driving to Chicago and kicking Bowman square in the dick.

Anyone else think Ryan Miller is getting a bit overrated?

The guy was lights out in the Olympics ... but hasn't been all that impressive since. And now you can throw in the concussion factor after he was ran over by Lucic. Are you so sure that you want to throw a king's ransom at Buffalo for this guy? I'm not.

Saad & McNeill are no sure things. Need to stop slobbering over prospects.

But it's okay to slobber over a goalie who played really well for a month three years ago? What a joke.

If there was a player that could fix everything, then that'd be a different story. But there isn't. You have players in the system RIGHT NOW that could be the future fixes for some of your team's problems.

I'd rather have them than a has-been headcase of a goalie.

the miller for kane idea always annoyed me.

I think the only thing more annoying than suggesting Kane for Miller trade is the assumption that it's an equal trade. It's not. Hawks would be getting worked on that deal.
