In review: All Ricketts cares about it money..........yet d3a think Rickett's will intentionally submarine all the investments he has made/wants to make with his own money....all the while pointing out you can still buy tickets on Cubs.com for opening day..........

:obama:

Sounds like a great buisness plan for Ricketts. Invest money in team and FO and facilities to the tune of nearly $1.5 billion. Then do nothing but submarine your own investment by keeping a shit product on the field at Wrigley.

If Ricketts only caring about money is the issue and he sees the Cubs ticket sales he would be more likely to start throwing around money on Prince and Albert simply to make money while saying **** winning/the future. Yet Ricketts is seemingly concerned more with the future baseball product at the risk of losing some money now. If all that was driving Ricketts was 2012 gate receipts he would have spent more. He didn't. He cares about winning the right sustainable way first and foremost. His moves and attitude proves that

To keep fans like you so hopefull. Spend 20 mil over 5 years on 1 guy and makes dumb Cub fans like you so hopefull that you just eat up every word they say

No way Theo agree to come here without the ablity to spend $$.

Just stop and think a little. Theo could of got more $$ next year if he was a free agent GM coming to Chicago wasnt about the $$ he could get that anywhere it was about cementing his legacy as the best GM of all time by breaking the streak here like he did in Beantown.

...and that is worth tossing his salad for.

But now I've gone too far.

Right, but both LAA and DET actually have a farm system to fall back on. You're still being a bit short-sighted, and you still haven't explained how you would build the team to win now given the resources available this past offseason.

Detriot's farm system is actually pretty bad outside of the top guys they have, and by just about every ranking worse than the Cubs.

They're probably also spending out the wazoo because their owner is old as dirt and wants to see a winner before he dies. I also saw that they shut down Jacob Turner for a while due to dead-arm.

•Looking at at future payroll commitments, major league assets, farm systems, ownership status, and front office strategies, ESPN.com's Keith Law (Insider sub. req'd) tries to hash out when clubs such as the Mets, Cubs, and Astros will be able to contend.

Anyone have Insider on ESPN? Im curious what he put for Cubs

Thats the reason why you just said DET is spending lol

I didn't actually word it the way you did, implying that I hope our owner is about to die so he'd spend because he has nothing left to live for.

It helps that the NL Central is one of the weaker divisions, but the Cubs' rebuilding has barely broken ground at this point -- the new front office has barely had a chance to clear the land. Their moves this winter, other than the trade of reliever Andrew Cashner for first base prospect Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Zack Cates, were largely about moving money around and keeping the 2012 product respectable without making dangerous long-term commitments such as the one wandering aimlessly around left field these days. (And it should be quite respectable, maybe even a little better if their gambles on starting pitchers whose peripheral stats were better than their ERAs work out.)

Chicago's farm system is thin up top but has a lot of high-risk, high-upside players in its lowest levels; even their extended spring training club will be fun to watch this year. But the Cubs' best chance to engineer a turnaround will probably come from trades, starting with Matt Garza but perhaps extending to players such as Geovany Soto or Carlos Marmol if they can re-establish their value with solid 2012 performances; they bought low on Ian Stewart and Chris Volstad and could end up selling high if either player fulfills his former first-round promise in the next two years.

By the 2013-14 offseason, they'll have a significant amount of cash to spend but only a handful of less expensive players in significant roles, so cashing in Garza for the maximum return looks like the critical step in their rebuilding process.

They will most likely contend next in ... 2015

I like the last line the best.

People are going to have to be patient with the Cubs.

I'm prepared til 2014 for losing, but an extra year won't hurt.

I agree fans are going to have to be even if they dont want to like me :shot: . I also think then Cubs need to lower ticket prices. If they going to rebuild they cant expect fans to pay 2nd highest avg ticket in baseball.

I hope that when the Cubs win it isn't like when the Blackhawks won, because when the Hawks won, nobody knew until they saw Kane down celebrating with Niemi, I want it to be clear that we've won so I don't sit wondering before celebrating.

A few time intervals of 1000 milliseconds each.
