Schwarber 1-3 1 RBI 1 BB hit was a triple.
Almora 1 for 3 2 RBI 1 BB
Vogelbach 1 for 2 1 RBI 1 BB

Black started the game and Edwards came in in the 6th inning. Not sure what to make out of that to be honest.

Regarding the list--Zastrysysny is the one that's the most frustrating. You'd think he'd be a lot farther right now.

He's only 23. I'm not certain where they intend to start him be it A+ or AA but if it's AA he's on a similar time line to what Kyle Hendricks was. Hendricks didn't make his debut until late 24. That's not really an uncommon age range for pitchers. Even Rodon who was a top 5 pick last draft is 22 and from what I've read may spend all of 2015 in AAA.

Fairly typical from my understanding in the minors to piggyback starters. The basic idea being you limit the innings on both guys but still get decent work. Generally a guy goes 4 or so innings and the other guy comes in. Without seeing Black's line it's hard to say if that's the case or not. If he was really dealing it's entirely possible he could go 5 innings with a low pitch count.

They announced the other day that Edwards would work out of the bullpen for now. Assuming he pitches well he's expected to be in AAA before long and widely expected to be up at some point late in the year. This looks to be a way to limit his innings early as they are still adamant that long term he's a starter. He impressed a lot of people this spring.

Black: 1-0 1.80 ERA 5 IP 4 Hits, 1 ER 3 BB 4 SO 1.40 WHIP
Edwards 3.86 ERA 2.1 IP 2 hits, 1 ER 2 BB 2 SO 1.71 WHIP

Doesn't give a pitch count. What I see though is BB being on the high side. Both have power arms so they were able to get out with out the big inning.

It was reported that Edwards was elevating his pitches which is mechanical on his release point. Same thing Lester was doing the other night, which cost him dearly.

Addison Russell's first AAA HR landed in the #Redbirds bullpen and extended the @IowaCubs lead to 3-0 in the 3rd at Memphis #Cubs

Gleyber Torres is hitting .300/.364/.350 over the first 5 games in A. Kid's only 18 years old and also has a nice 9.1%/22.7% bb/k rate. If he keeps this up the rest of the year you're going to start hearing his name in the over crowded middle of the cubs defense. He's not all that dissimilar from Willy Adames who was one of the key pieces in the David Price trade. At 17 Adames hit .245/.419/.370 in rookie ball over 267 PAs. At 18 in A he hit .269/.346/.428 over 400 PAs for the Tigers and .278/.377/.433 over 114 PAs after the trade. MLB.com gives them identical ratings on everything but the hit tool and they actually give Torres a 55 vs Adames' 50. Kiley McDaniel on fangraphs gave them the same rankings though Adames a 60 arm vs Torres' 55. Torres on the other hand hit .279/.372/.377 in 183 PAs at 17 and .393/.469/.786 in 32 PAs at A- last season.

This seems like a really encouraging piece to discuss when we talk about future trades espeically considering how teams hunger for SS and how the cubs have a ridiculous amount of depth there.

Torres could very well end up being a key trade piece sometime in the future. He could be a top 100 prospect before his 19th birthday.

I question his top end, but he has played extremely well since signing. I am waiting for Jimenez to start blossoming

Most scouts seem to think he can hit stick at SS which is going to his value high as he moves along. Lack of power could be an issue but you never know with an 18 year old kid.

Russell playing 2B today. Just came through with a 2 RBI single. Him surpassing Baez is not a far reach right now.

His swing has less moving parts than Baez. It's no wonder he would possibly pass him up.

Yep. It's more similar to Soler's swing from what I recall.

Russell: AB: 31 SO: 2 BB: 1 11 hits 2 2B 1 HR SO 6.4% right now. It is still early though.

Bryant: 9 SO in 28 AB 2 BB 32% SO's. 3 HR's but 30% SO's is pretty much what we can expect out him.

Russell is not that far off.

The only percentage I care about is the 70% of ABs Kris Bryant will be producing a home run for the Cubs over the next 15 years :fap:
