Holy Moly Guacamole! My GAWD, cubs set the new pay scale for managers

----

The longtime Milwaukee Brewers manager was lured to Chicago with a record-setting five-year, $40 million contract, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN.

The previous high average annual value for a manager was Terry Francona with the Cleveland Guardians at $4.5 million.

This is a weird forum honestly. People post trolling thread and nonsense and follow and stalk other posters around the forum and downvote them. Then someone responds to that childishness with childishness and then you sic' em!

I only post here to see intelligent opinions about the Cubs and Bears. The people who don't know sports like Knoxville don't really interest me.

If he doesn’t interest you, why are you following him around disliking every single thing he posts?

I don’t agree with everything everyone else posts, but I don’t feel the need to go dislike it. Posting an opinion I happen to not share isn’t a reason to “dislike “. That’s just childish.

Cubs do not need to go on a spending spree. Look at what just happened to the Mets and Padres. Stay the course and let the farm produce. Counsell will squeeze more blood out of the same turnip than Ross could. I wonder if Counsell will be able to steal Mike Maddux from Texas to become pitching coach. They worked together in Milwaukee, and he might look for new challenge after winning WS in Texas.

Haha. You think the Cubs would spend $40,000,000 on a manager if they believed they had a good manager.

Today’s move proved conclusively that the Cubs believed they had a problem at manager.

Sorry you were wrong. Continue humiliating yourself though. I enjoy it.
Ross would still be the manager if COunsell didn't walk into the Cubs front office asking to be hired. Replacing Ross with the best manager in baseball doesn't mean the Cubs thought Ross was bad. They did this move because you get the best guy on the market.

I don't want to get into the quality of what Ross did. End of the day they felt that the direction had to shift. And I would guess it has to do with Ross's playing allotment to youth.

He was great with the pitching but hitting they got no love. So that is a issue.

I certainly don’t get the impression that they felt “the direction had to shift“. If Counsell were not available, Ross would be the manager in 2024.

I don't know about that. I think dropping 40m is equal to 2015 and Maddon.

So I expect a impact signing then a few trades.

This is a parallel to 2014-15. That off-season had Arretta and Hendricks getting their feet wet. Then Jed and Theo pulled a blindsided.

So there is a trend going on. Managers for development phase and managers for competition.

Actually MLTR has predicted the Cubs to target Chapman for 3B then resign Candy. Then the lefty starter from Japan and the relief pitching lefty from Japan.

They do that it could make a interesting off-season. It still leaves a trade with the Mets to target Alonso. That would make an interesting team.
