I hope he not in the rotation in 2019

Lester Quintana Hendricks Chatwood

That would mean their next addition is on a 1 yr deal....

I think like Beck says , he gonna be a bullpen guy like Monty..

Or they can always flip him at 2019 deadline

I wouldn't concern myself with it right now. What they have is 2 lefties and 2 righties. They could go either way with the 5th man.

Guy I haven't heard about is Chris Tillman. This a maybe if they can fix him.

Interesting things I found on Hickey:

If you have a good changeup, throw it to both sides of the plate, against both same-handed and opposite-handed batters.

Don’t be shy about throwing your best pitch early in the count to get ahead, rather than saving it exclusively for two-strike counts.

If you have a four-seam fastball with good rise, throw it high in the zone, or just above. That’s a strikeout pitch.

These are nice rules. Don’t fall in love with them. If you’re a square peg, let’s find you a square hole.

Pitch with confidence.

Add in Jim Benedict as a special assistant. Ya know the guy that fixed A.J. Burnett, Francisco Liriano, Vance Worley, Edinson Volquez and J.A. Happ, over the last several years.

Too bad on Ohtani

Payroll is at 150.5 mil with Smyly. Now I’m wondering how close to 197 mil they get. 175 mil honestly is a decent projection. Which is Cobb and Reed cash. At that point they build up trade value for the deadline in the play off push.

Sure, but you're going to get in to a bidding war with one of the best players in baseball. Not only do you have to show a team that he wants to hitch his wagons to, you have to spend that money and hope he wants it. And while you can say "the Sox can afford it", I'm not so sure that the White Sox can afford Machado. This isn't signing some short term, high dollar deal; this is basically signing a guy to a 10 year deal. That's so far away from how JR and the organization runs that I'd be shocked if they did it.

Abreu is going to be a FA in 2020 so it's not as if he's some long term piece and if he is a longterm piece that's more money the Sox will have to pay to two guys. My assumption is the Sox are going to do some deal for a guy like Andrew McCutchen on a four/five year deal instead of going hard after Machado or a top tier FA.

Jerry has shown the willingness to go expensive and long term on free agents. We were runner up with A-Rod.

The thing is the team could sign 2-3 guys in the $30-40 per range and still have payrolls under $130 million for several years.

Abreu also isn't going to hit a big pay day. He'll be 32 I believe in his FA year. For a first baseman, he'll be getting a max of 3-4 year deal in the $20 million per range.

So you don't think Abreu will be traded this winter? I've been hearing he's a lock for the REd Sox the last couple of days.

They don't have anything really for the White Sox that they would be willing to part with.

The Cubs and Indians have had trade talk conversations.RHP Danny Salazar has been mentioned . The Indians looking for left handed hitting in return . Nothing close at this time .

It's levine so take his comments with a huge grain of salt.

It would seem that the Cubs are now listening on Montgomery, not that they'd necessarily act on that. Obviously you'd prefer him to stay in the bullpen but he could be a valuable trade chip since they're not going to guarantee him a starting job.

Yes, but he's no where near enough for Abreu since we have Avi and eventually Robert to play there

Benintendi isn't enough for 2 years of Abreu? That's maybe 20 WAR for 8 WAR. I think it's an overpay for Boston to be honest with you.

That assumes a lot. Abreu is already all star caliber. Andrew has a ways to go yet.

Abreu as a leader has more value for the White Sox than other teams for sure, but you don't give that away which is why the ask is so high.
