Last tweet I saw was 90/10 for Ken Rosenthal IIRC

I'll believe it when I see it. Plus Arizona is trying to deal Greinke to Texas in order to bring Martinez back. Also if you're Martinez do you want to go somewhere where you'll only DH? Rosenthal is right a lot of the time but not always.

No one says otherwise

Would Montgomery for Britton make sense? Baltimore gets controllable starter while Cubs las massively improve bullpen going from Monty to Britton.

Britton lost velocity. We don’t know if he is the same guy

It's levine so take his comments with a huge grain of salt.

Salazar has huge upside and Cle’s rotation is set. He would be pushed into MR there.

Seeing it is more about health with Danny not upside I would make that trade. Happ would fill their need for a bat from either side and he can move around to fill their needs

Have to imagine that signing Smyly closes the Cubs rotation from any Cobb-like signing since that would be a one year solution at the cost of four years and then next year, you'd be paying six MLB quality starters. If the Cubs make a trade, I think they'd maybe go after a Blake Snell or Tyler Glasnow type SP who has the potential to be a TOR arm but may have slightly depressed value right now. When you look at the Cubs and their rotation and how it slots for the future, the true hole for it likely is either a #1 type arm this year or a #1/#2 arm in 2019 and beyond.

I think maybe you could Baez for one of the Padres higher rated arms that may still be a few years off from the majors but has future TOR potential like Quantrill or Michael Baez could work.

Kinda. But the Dodgers also over loaded with oft injured but high top side guys and made it work.

If they went after Salazar for Happ I would be satisfied this offseason. Sure getting another late inning guy would be nice but over all adding 2 starters with another one in rehab. Then Morrow. At that point if Montgomery starts to be an issue then flip him for a late inning guy. 4 years of control carries weight.

Only for the Cubs, just not enough value for the Orioles

Of course it is, a starting pitcher for one year of Britton? Baltimore wants to acquire 3 starters. They want one for Britton but haven't found a taker, don't forget he wasn't good last year and there are injury concerns. They could easily slot Montgomery in at 5.

20 per is getting into #2 cash. He is limited to 2 pitches right now

I wish $20 mil was #2 cash, it just isn't anymore. It's more like #4 money. That's why Chatwood was a bargain if you see that in him. I'm not sure I do but we'll see.

They can slot anyone in there, it's not enough

To bad Theo couldn’t get something done with Jake. Cost /benefit wise I would have much preferred him as a post season difference maker and some cheap bum to burn innings at the bottom of the rotation. I don’t see any post season benefit to any of these starters we have signed or rumored to be after. Going into the post season with an aging Lester, Q, and KH isn’t going to get it done.

David Kaplan

@thekapman
There is something to the Cubs and Indians talking about Danny Salazar as @MLBBruceLevine first said. Could the deal include Ian Happ and could the Cubs get Jason Kipnis as well? Just a thought. Nothing close yet from what I’m hearing.

man i hate to talk negatively about people like levine and kap but seriously WTF are they on sometimes? Why the **** of all people would the cubs be trying to acquire Kipnis? They have 4 2B already.

Well it is Kap.

Still the Salazar for Happ I’m still behind. I’m not sure if the weight of one vs the other but that is for others to decide.

Montgomery for Britton

Let’s see. 1 year for 4

Went from 74 SO in 69 IP to 29 SO in 37 IP

BALTIMORE -- Orioles closer Zach Britton's season has been riddled with injuries, and due to an MCL strain in his left knee, it could end early. ... "It's not anything that needs to be operated on, which is the good news," Britton said.Sep 21, 2017

The risk is on the buyer here. Nothing shows that he is going to be the same guy in his one year of control.

Kipinis played CF pretty well last year. A LF/RF split of hm and Almora at leadoff would be nice in cases where we face tough righties. And Kipinis and Zobrist can man 2b and possibly trade Baez. Our contact hitting would improve a lot.
