It's really od to have such a good eye, hit for such high average and power and still fan as much as he does.

This era of baseball is odd as there is literally no one that is able to have low strikeout rates like the days of Tony Gwynn, and most recently Juan Pierre. I wonder if this has to do with baseball's addiction to speed pitchers?

Bryant babip is ridiculous and not sustainable. The walking is why he strikes out. He waits for the perfect pitch. It's why scouts are concerned with his k rate. The higher the level the less balls he will see to his liking. Most think he will not hit for high average in majors. More in the .260 .270 range

Len Kasper mad some good points on the Score today. He said that the Cubs aren't likely to move Bryant to AAA because Villanueva is there and it would be difficult to fit two third basemen there.

So it makes more sense for Bryant to skip AAA, but that a larger sample size is needed before the Cubs brass would do that. I am thinking this means a September call up.

That's what I've been saying all along :-/

Throughout the season, the MLBPipeline.com staff will name Pipeline Prospects of the Month -- one hitter and one pitcher who excelled over the previous 31 days. To qualify for selection, a player must rank among their organization's Top 20 Prospects, as listed on our Prospect Watch.

Pipeline Hitting Prospect of the Month: Kris Bryant, Tennessee Smokies
Cubs' No. 2 prospect, 29 G, .407/.492/.806, 1.298 OPS, 12 HR, 34 RBI, 30 R, 2 SB

Bryant finished May strong, hitting four home runs in the final week. But he played well throughout the month, piling up 44 hits -- including 19 for extra bases -- in 29 games.

Bryant, ranked No. 8 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, leads the Southern League in all three Triple Crown categories (.348, 18 home runs, 49 RBIs), as well as on-base percentage (.452), slugging percentage (.692), hits (70) and runs (.48).

The one downside to Bryant's production has been his strikeouts. He's whiffed 64 times this season, a rate of 27 percent. While there's always been some swing-and-miss in his game, it gives him something to work on during his time in Tennessee.

Honorable mention
Joey Gallo, 3B, Myrtle Beach Pelicans: Rangers' No. 4 prospect, 28 G, .326/.483/.783, 1.266 OPS, 12 HR, 26 RBI, 26 R, 5 SB

Corey Seager , SS, Rancho Cucamonga: Dodgers' No. 1 prospect, 27 G, .400/.455/.700, 1.155 OPS, 6 HR, 24 RBI, 20 R, 1 SB

Michael Taylor , OF, Harrisburg: Nationals' No. 4 prospect, 29 G, .374/.446/.720, 1.166 OPS, 9 HR, 22 RBI, 23 R, 9 SB

*****
Pipeline Pitching Prospect of the Month: Daniel Norris, Dunedin Blue Jays
Blue Jays' No. 4 prospect, 1-0, 0.68 ERA, 5 GS, 26 1/3 IP, 20 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 8 BB, 34 K

Norris was remarkably consistent over the last month. He didn't allow more than one run in any of his five starts and turned in a pair of scoreless outings. He lowered his season ERA to 0.72, the best in the Minor Leagues among qualifying pitchers.

In 10 starts this season, Norris, ranked No. 99 on the Top 100 prospects list, is 4-0 and has a 60-to-14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 50 1/3 innings. He ranks third in the Florida State League in strikeouts and WHIP (0.99).

Norris' dominant start to the season comes after a rocky first two years as a professional. He began to put everything together in the second half of 2013, making his delivery more consistent and throwing more strikes. Those changes have carried over to this year and his fastball velocity has ticked up as well.

Honorable mention
Hunter Harvey, RHP, Delmarva Shorebirds: Orioles' No. 3 prospect, 2-2, 1.30 ERA, 5 GS, 27 2/3 IP, 17 H, 9 R, 4 ER, 7 BB, 35 K

Francellis Montas , RHP, Winston-Salem Dash: White Sox No. 16 prospect, 3-0, 1.50 ERA, 5 GS, 30 IP, 19 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 34 K

Jimmy Nelson , RHP, Nashville Sounds: Brewers' No. 1 prospect, 3-0, 1.34 ERA, 5 GS, 33 2/3 IP, 21 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 10 BB, 38 K

Henry Owens, LHP, Portland SeaDogs: Red Sox No. 1 prospect, 3-2, 1.51 ERA, 6 GS, 35 2/3 IP, 16 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 18 BB, 39 K

I can see him skipping AAA. I would promote him sooner than Sept.

My opinion the "real" reason is they are hoping Olt gets his game together so they can toss him into a deal this year for a bigger return. It really has little to do with Christian as he really has not proven that he has mastered AAA much less MLB pitching.

Eventually a time needs to happen where winning has a bigger priority over the business aspect of the team. If this was the Yanks they would not be concerned with this stuff. If Bryant helps them win games now he gets called.

That is a major reason why the Cubs are bad.

Hate to break it to you but I think we're in for this in the long haul with this ownership. Though, one could argue that is the component that has made teams like Tampa and St. Louis able to sustain success with much lower payrolls than the yankees. In all honesty, I think that is the approach they plan to take with more money to re-sign their own than Tampa. The cubs have a similar payroll to the Cards right now. If new tv contracts and reported additional revenue streams push the cubs into the $130-140 mil range then that's all the more money they have. Regardless, the cubs aren't going to be the Yankees and people need to accept that. The yanks have been over the $187 mil threshold for like 5 years.

His dad is not a baseball fan. He bought the toy for his baby. The other brother and sisters are already fed up with the road blocks caused by the city.

This is all on spoiled little Timmy. If he keeps getting road blocked by the city eventually it will wear out. Dad is not going to lose on a failed toy for his kid.

They're still one of the most profitable teams in the MLB, regardless of what the city does. I don't think Daddy minds Timmy making money.

#19 for Bryant. I hope he doesn't read inane message boards or the Chicago media.
He might make it then.

I coached Erik Jokisch when he was a freshman in High School, granted I was only 19 myself but I hope Theo and boys call him up this. He has very good command and while he is not a big strikeout pitcher he could an effective innings eater in the back of the rotation.

If it me, id put him in LF. Lake in CF, and Bonifacio at 2B

Why not ? I think he can handle it

IDK what is the motivation for holding him back in AA.

No clue. Youd think if anything they'd promote him to AAA by now..

Im thinking one of two things gonna happen...
They dump barney and what I mentioned above, move Lake to center and Bonifacio to 2B so Bryant can play OF
OR
considering Olt losing PT over gaining.. they even PH for him in 8th inning against a RH with a 3 run lead...( 1 out bases empty)
Couldn't understand that cause id rather have his glove on field late in game with lead over Valbuena..
They just may consider bringing bryant up to play 3B sooner rather then later, with having no faith in Olt turning it around....

I'm pretty sure it's like I've said before. They want both Bryant and Villanueva getting consistent at bats and they aren't ready to move Bryant off 3B. Additionally, they aren't ready to promote Bryant to the majors. I think they will just have him skip AAA when they are ready to call him up to the majors. Olt's not giving them any reason not to either. I know you don't think Villanueva is much of a prospect but they clearly differ. Bryant's polished enough in most regards that he doesn't really need AAA. The one area holding him back is k rate at 26.4%. However, that's not even that bad. You can argue that's what they are waiting on. And given his walk rate, it's not that he's over aggressive like Baez is where AAA pitching would exploit him.
