They tried to trade him after they said he wouldn't make the team. If someone says that they are going to get rid of their car, just give it away, then offers to sell it to you, would you buy it? Of course not, you're going to wait until they just get rid of it.

That is why people like Poods and I wanted him in the rotation. So we could trade him. No one is going to want to pay for Silva after he has had like 2 good ST outings.

Cashner has way more upside, eventually.
Right now, ya, they are probably even.
Which is why they made it a competition in spring training.
Cashner won. Simple as that.

A) No one is arguing that Cashner has more upside. Drop it.
B) No one is arguing that Cashner lost the competition. Drop it.
C) If they are even, why aren't we letting the guy who is getting paid more have a chance, so we can get rid of the money?
That is the whole basis of our argument. We don't like that we are spending 8 million dollars on a guy to not do shit. At the very least he can be a LR.
We have two pitchers, who we will say are equal, although I think Silva is better. But we will say they are equal. We aren't going to be competing, so where is the harm in giving Silva 5-10 starts? We don't want Cashner pitching 200 innings anyway. I see no harm in it and I see a lot of room for gain.

He got beat out by Mateo and Samardzija for a chance for LR.
Who says we won't be competing? You. We were only 3 games out in those projections and can still figure to be above .500 at the very least.
Even if we did trade him, we'd still be paying him to play for another team.
Even if you don't think it was the best decision, I still don't see how you can complain about it.
The Cubs were WILLING to pay that. They were paying that amount no matter what, because they'd still pick up most of the contract if they traded him. If the Cubs were willing to pay that, then you shouldn't care. Their money that they can spend however they want.
If they are likely to be equal, you let them battle it out in Spring Training. We did that, and Silva lost. It's his own fault that he has no spot on the team. He earned his release.
