I keep hearing people mentioning no other QB was brought in for a visit.

If any other of these teams had the #1 pick theyd also have taken caleb and not even thought about another QB.

Will he end up the best QB in the draft? Long time before that is determined, but he was 100% the #1 pick no matter who had the rights to it.
Exactly. WSH or NE would’ve taken Caleb. I believe WSH offered a package to move up. He was seen as the superior prospect then, and I think he still is now.

He said something like “Caleb has been pretty good. Is he Jayden Daniels? No. Daniels is great. Does that make him bad? No. We were wrong about him, but he’s not bad.” I think he meant wrong about the generational stuff

And I think that’s what is sinking in. Definitely to those outside of Chicago.

I’m never dogmatic about these things. Williams isn’t Rex grossman. He’s not awful. He just didn’t warrant the number one pick. Would I have been fine with getting a QB like him with the 27th pick? Sure. Good organizations find QBs like that with value.

And that’s the issue with the bears QB history. The last QB they got who was as good as their draft pick or better was Kyle Orton. Before that, who knows.

So, haugh sounded like a far cry from generational this morning. And it begs the question..

Will this be memory holed? You know, the way halfway through the 2006 season the majority of bears fans thought rex grossman was amazing and now there are like 5 people who will admit to that.

Because, here’s my issue with bears fans who were wrong about cutler, who don’t know who Rex grossman is, allegedly, and who will end up being wrong about Williams. (Not that he’s terrible, just not anywhere approaching generational).

The next time the bears are in position to have an actual rebuild where you build a solid team, they’re going to want their shiny new toy. They don’t think that the teams they watch with excellent QB play got there by hiring front office people who onow something others don’t. They don’t think it’s about getting value at QB. They think it’s about throwing as many prime assets as they can at the QB position.

And if you’re haugh, who talked about Williams like he was John way… do you really get to be the authority on this stuff the next time around?

I never really feel like I’m talking to people who thought that all of the previous guys were what they ended up being but now they really like Williams. Maybe trubisky, but that’s it. They thought jay cutler was what they think Williams is… well, what they’re grasping into him hopefully being.

I truly believe he'd be a better quarterback if he was on a different team. The Bears record of developing young quarterbacks speaks for itself.

I was a bit skeptical of the generational stuff, in part because he had played in the Pac 8, which isn't exactly the SEC. Not that great quarterbacks can't come out of what that conference used to be, it's just that it's easier to look great when you don't routinely have Georgia, Alabama, LSU, etc. on your schedule every year. Caleb was surrounded with talent this season (Moore, Allen, Odunze, Swift), and yet he looked lost at times. Having your HC and OC fired during the season isn't ideal, but at some point you just have to overcome that stuff and ball out.

I think he can be adequate to very good for the Bears. With a better organization with a superior culture, he might have a higher ceiling.

Time will tell, but for right now, meh.

Williams is actually surviving this shit show know as the Chicago Bears. Sacked how many times? And will be sacked even more in the last three games. And he looks like he will survive that while also putting up decent to good numbers. Has he missed some. Yes. But the oline sucks and the offensive system he’s working under is as close to comical as it gets. According to this offense the TE doesn’t even exist.

You’re seeing his floor people.

Caleb will be fine with better coaching and protection. The deep bowl is concerning though..

Jaden Daniels would have saved Eberflus' job!

😆
I can’t believe I’m using this quote to try to make a positive post but here goes

If the roles were reversed would anyone think Jayden Daniels would have more success here and/or Caleb Williams play the same mediocre football in Washington?

I am probably in the minority but even after a redraft I would still take Caleb over Daniel's. Caleb issue is footwork and field awareness which will improve over time. I feel like Daniel's has hit his ceiling and Caleb's ceiling will be way higher as long as we get the right coaching staff in place.

According to same reports , Daniels was most NFL ready, and it shows..

I think people are seriously underestimating Caleb’s non interception streak given all of the pressure he has been getting.

The relentless negativity is just insane! You would think he was putting up Justin Fields type numbers with the way he gets talked about. Oh I forgot it’s all garbage time, give me a break.

When Caleb makes another leap next year and Daniels is the same or worse than this year I don’t want to hear shit from these idiots.
blame it on the the refs

The regression has absolutely nothing to do with trading Fields and drafting Caleb. I was and am a big fan of Fields. He played his HS ball close to where I live so I knew about him probably years before you first heard of him. Insane athlete. But he’s not in the same realm as Caleb when we’re talking about QB potential.

The regression is occurring (it should be obvious) due to the structural mess that is this team. It’s also partly why Fields struggled here. But he wouldn’t come close to getting these same stats this year. And the record would probably be worse.

Fire Poles. Hire Agnew and Johnson. Start recognizing and drafting impact players in the draft. Caleb will be just fine, and so will the team.

This is the way.

See, I reject YOUR assessment because its 100% fatalism. That's not going to solve things either. I'm NOT saying the Bears will get it right, but if you are going to be a fatalist, why watch football, or at least, why be a fan of this team?

Caleb has rough numbers in quarters 1-3, and yet is STILL only 100 yards and 3 touchdowns behind Daniels.

Literally 100 yards and 3 TDs behind the favorite for ROY, with figuratively one hand tied behind his back and one eye closed.

Yet you won't consider his stats because "empty calories" - I call bullshit. You won't accept his stats because the season sucks and like a lazy Bears fan you always default to blaming the quarterback for everything.

Williams isn't a finished product. But what he has been able to do behind bad coaches and a bad line in a bad scheme during a lost season in and of itself is INCREDIBLE to people who actually know what the **** they are looking at.

Ben Johnson as the savior? Hardly. If Caleb can put up these numbers behind dogshit, all Johnson needs to be is AVERAGE and Caleb is going to go OFF next year (so long as they also fix the line).

Fans need to stop being lazy and stop letting the media lead them by the nose. Want to be mad at only one person about the season? Be mad at Poles.

Didnt the team you are a "fan" of have 1 playoff win since 1957 prior to last year?

WTF are you even talking about. Go find a new board, or go **** a fish. No one wants you here

You also still dont know the difference between your/you're and were/where. Its kind of fucking sad. If you spent as much time focusing in grade school maybe people wouldnt make fun of you so much.
