If you want to point the finger at one administration for the debt we are in, point it at Reagan.

President Bush unitied the parties. Look at the universal tax breaks and resolutions for war

You've got to be kidding me. Mr. you are either for us or for the terrorists is now a person who unitied the parties.

And seriously we are using the Bush tax cuts as an example of unifying the parties? When they were originally voted on a grand total of 9 Democrats supported it.

So I take it then you have no explanation for why 99% of Republicans voted for it at the time and 96% of Democrats voted against in the House despite all the wonderful unity George W. Bush promoted.

Um the Democrats had control of the house from 2007-2011. Republicans have been in charge from 1994-2006. And now the Republicans are in charge.

Don't bundle everything republican or everything democrat into one group.

Hell, most claim they are one or the other, make promises to along their party guidelines, then act differently in whatever seat it is, that they were elected to.

I try to avoid insults in politics, but if you think everything is conservative or liberal, left or right, or republican or democrat, you're as dumb as it can get. You purposely over-simplified something with extraordinary complexity for the sake of being cheered on by others like you. You are the problem.

By oversimplifying the very complex issues, you thus get bad answers. And those that claim to be one label or the other are often ignorant on how to compromise.

(IDK who this is aimed at, but I'll know soon enough by those who are offended by it LOL)

Okay so when the bill was first purposed, the Republicans did nothing to build consenus with the Democrats and just forced through the legislation through the Senate. I am not here to argue whether tax cuts are good or bad since it is a complex issue as crys pointed out earlier. However, you can't claim that Bush sought to work with both parties when they did nothing of the sort when they were in power.

Crystallas is also correct to point out that each side claims that the other side abuses it power and doesn't listen to the other whenever they are out of power. Both sides are guilty of doing things like gerrymandering to try to remain in power at the expense of actual democracy. To simple say that one side has sought to work with the other the side in power refused to is ignoring the past twenty years.

Because the term conservative or liberal have lost their meanings, thanks to a great deal of misuse.

What do you mean by conservative. Your definition of it, and not yet another robotic wikipedia entry.

Its not just the past twenty years, its happened before. In the 1920's the Republican party had the Presidency and both chambers of Congress. We saw what unregulated financial industry could do, what massive amount of debt did. The Harding Administration was one of the most corrupt administrations. When the depression hit, the country elected a Democratic Congress in the 1930 election. Hoover was still President. Democrats at the time acted much like Republicans do now in that they did not want to do anything to help the country get out of its funk so that Hoover would not be re-elected.

Hoover himself at first said things would fix themselves, and when he tried to get something going, Democrats would have nothing of it. It was then when FDR was elected in 1932 that things started rolling as far as the government went. I'm sure there is dispute here as to if the massive government spending in the 1930's fixed the economy of not. And before someone says World War II fixed the economy, who was spending the money in World War II? The Government.

Speaking to point of gerrymandering, it has been an issue for a long long time. Both party's are very guilty of it. Illinois recently passed redistricting is clear gerrymandering by the Democrats. I'm happy that the Congressman who currently does represent my district will no longer be, but as a whole, its sad that the Democrats had to resort to such an tactic to try and keep their long standing majorities in the state.
