Just picked up the water heater. It's in the van but will be installed in a few days. See if my buddy next door will help me unload it tonight. I love doing this stuff.
Also here is a couple of pictures of the desert willow in my front yard, you can also see a couple of the ponderosa pines hanging out in the background too.
This is before we cleaned up the yard two weekends ago.

Instead of the bathroom we tore out the carpet last weekend. It was very old crappy carpet but we found a nice little gem underneath!! We knew there was wood under, just weren't sure of the condition. Looking good though! Little bit of touch up and should be finished.
Here are some pictures.

They look similar. The desert willow puts out these awesome purple flowers for about a month and a half a year in late spring. I have two of them in the yard, that one and a younger one that is not nearly as cool. That desert willow looks an awful lot like a mesquite tree. Had desert landscaping when I lived on Davis-Montham AFB base housing. Yard work done in 15 minutes. Had some grass off the back patio, rest was gravel, rocks and native plants.
How do those LED lights do for growing veggies?finally got my backyard in order and built a cheap temporary greenhouse and beds that i hope to last a season or two before building a permanent structure.
set up an indoor greenhouse seed station.. heat pad, led lights..
had an electrician in to add some power points and move others around. it let me finally mount the main tv on the wall in the lounge.. have to do drywall today for those empty power points and stuff we ripped out..
painting the rest of the house soon and then im installing some floating floors in the kitchen, hallway and the small 2nd living room... tired of the 90s linoleum the prior owners had.. i checked underneath it and prayers were answered... it will pull up easy and i wont have to scrape for a week.. they did selective gluing.
after that gonna do something with the kitchen.. then touch up the garage (paint/floor coating)

I know when they first came out they had trouble getting the spectrum right, but curious how they have come along.

oh idk if youd need a heat mat or not. i know those desert temps can drop at night..
i needed one to help with germination of a variety of eggplants and bell/banana peppers.. my set up is in a backroom we dont heat and it drops to 45-55 at night in there and around 60-65 in the day (end of winter, start of spring here). everything else germinated fine at that temp though.. the heat pad keeps those trays around 75-85
i also have my trays in a mini dome inside a mini green house. the plants that can easily take cooler temps took off in those
Trying to decide if it's worth it with the LED's I have a small spot I could do some veggies indoors during the winter, but I am not sure it is worth the hassle.
Also thinking that if/when I move I am going to have a basement at my next house and would like to use some solar to power LED lights for growing in the winter time. The stupid prepper in me. I also want one of those Elon Musk whole home batteries specifically for that. But again, rather pipe dream stuff right now. I just didn't know anyone that has had actual experience growing with LED lights.
they basically cost nothing to run. well the low watt ones i have dont.. my 60w system probably costs $2-4 (?? most of its ran on offpeak too) a month to run 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. i mean if youre just using it during winter that really isnt much of an expense. if its sunny, i move my plants and probably only run my lights 6 hours for the day
i had a late start since we moved up here in winter, so my set up basically turned into a veg seed station... come next winter id like to have greens and salad leaf going during winter if my outdoor greenhouse cant keep them.. no heat to it, thought about building a heatsink but since its a temp structure, im not trying to do too much to it.
im sure you could power low watts off a solar system... i have that pipe dream too.. im headed that way in the future and the permanent greenhouse, but thats years away
idk anything about leds and those exotic sticky plants..
IDK anything about growing the sticky plants either.
I was thinking more for lettuce, jalapenos and other chile peppers, and stuff like that. Wouldn't mind growing some herbs like basil etc, but this is all functional edible stuff I am referring to. Wouldn't waste my time on the other thing unless it was legal, then maybe just for fun because it was legal.
It would be nice though to not have the heat concerns in the house that come with normal lights. I wouldn't worry in the winter because it is within a heated space and in the summer wouldn't hurt my cooling bill.
