I love all of their beer. I just don't go to Wisconsin enough.

I didnt know how popular it was in IL. I know that everyone out here in CO that is from Wisconsin loves it and that my friends in IL that drink good beer love it. I just didnt know if that was because the brewery is so close to my hometown or if it is popular elsewhere. They make good stuff.

I did say Strongbow earlier, ha. Haven't tried many flavors of Angry Orchard but I'm pretty much a Strongbow Savant. Also, if you ever see a Basque cider, give it a try.

I had New Glarus Spotted Cow up in Wisconsin after Christmas. Wasn't my cup of tea

Fair enough. That's why so many breweries make so many styles! There's something for everyone!

I had a work conference in Oviedo Spain. I drank so much Basque Cider there it was out of control. Pouring it from far above your head and hitting the lip of the glass held near your pocket and then chugging it! I poured it on my shoulder a little too often. LOL. Love that stuff. I have never seen it in liquor stores here in CO. I may make a trip to the really big one across town and look for it.

My friend introduced me to them by giving me their Oktoberfest beer and it was the best beer I had ever had at that point in time. Another friend of mine lives in Racine and bought me some as a housewarming gift, so I had some for awhile. I've tried others beers of theirs too and just as good. So yeah great brewery, just wish they would sell outside of Wisconsin.

Its crazy because their facility is brand new and immense. I would think they would have the capacity to distribute in several states. Oh well. That is their business model.

I have never had their oktoberfest. I usually go to their brewery once every trip back to IL, but I guess I have never been there in the right season!

Hamm's in a can is my go-to. I appreciate better beers though, but I am not a hipster ****** "craft beer" snob. There is a reason why non "craft beers" are popular.

Because:

a) They are generally cheap in comparison to good beer
b) They have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in your lifetime marketing the **** out of the Buds, Miller Lites etc of the world.
c) Many people have shitty taste. Popular != good.

not yet. I will though. And I really do like good beer. I also like to get drunk and when I do I don't want to feel as though I have consumed a meal, or wake up the next day with a headache. Never had a headache from Hamm's or most American lagers. IPA's split my wig, and a lot of them taste like I'm drinking organic perfume.

If I'm going to be sophisticated about my drinking it will be with a nice bourbon or scotch, neat, sipped.

I guess I just have too many friends that have me try their next favorite beer, and for the life of them they can't explain why it's so good, yet they can tell me my American Lager is "piss."

But whatever, I'm not going to go all Desperado and make this my drinking diary...

Don't get me wrong. I drink Miller Lite quite often. If I'm going to be drinking a lot (especially if it's outside and hot)...I pretty much go cheap domestic.

I am not a hop head. I think that the current IPA rage is a fad that will last for a while and then switch to something else. Dont get me wrong, I do like IPAs, but ones that I find flavorful, not hoppy just to be hoppy. Kinda like hot sauces. I will like extremely hot sauces if they have good flavor, but if they were made just to be hot without good flavor, keep it away.

Oh and you had me at scotch. I have about 12 varieties at home right now. I love em.

One thing impressive about American Lagers, is the amazing consistency. To make a beer that consistent for that long of time is not an easy feat, even with millions in equipment. There are times when I drink it. I am not "above" that. I rip on my friends and family who drink it all the time, just because they are too stubborn to try anything else, but those are just jokes.

My Uncle homebrews and said the exact same thing about IPA's and is perfecting his own lager, said it's the most difficult of all beers he's brewed (and he's a science guy so i respect his perspective) His best brews are stouts, and makes fantastic ale but says those are also very easy to make. I think it's a pretty interesting hobby and will be taking it up myself. I'll start with Ale and go from there.

As far as ales being easy, that is true in a sense. Once it is boiled it is ready to drink in 14 days really. Not much else to do. Lagering takes time, patience, and off flavors are very pronounced that may have been "hidden" in an ale. But you can produce lagers that are much more flavorful than the "american lagers" but not as filling as darker beers. But making an ale that stands out as unique and delicious is a little more difficult. But he is absolutely right that lagers are more difficult.

We're just past the holiday season now, but while in Cleveland for Bears/Browns I had some two fantastic seasonal beers: the Christmas Ale from the Great Lakes Brewery (Cleveland) and the 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale from the Thirsty Dog Brewery (Akron).

Had the Great Lakes one at a local wings place there, and the waitress asked me if I wanted a "rim" with my beer. Had no idea what she meant but I said "sure" anyway. They put brown sugar and cinnamon around the rim of the beer for drinking. It was seriously delicious.
