Brad Biggs

The Bears are particularly thin at cornerback right now but it’s also a good draft for cornerbacks. One veteran name I did hear at the combine was Sean Smith, the Kansas City Chief. He is 6-foot-3, 218 pounds, and has missed only four games in seven seasons. Word on the street was Smith is seeking a deal averaging somewhere between $8 million and $10 million per season. Whether or not the Bears are willing to go that high for Smith, I don’t know. He should get pretty good money from someone though.

Two down run stuffing LB that needs to be subbed out on passing downs. I like him better than Acho at the right price of course.

Rumor has it that McPhee was recruiting him

Langford made a few pretty impressive catches.

And he's a converted WR, so he has natural pass catching ability.

Again I'll chalk up the drops to being a rookie, but I hope that area is a big focus for him this off-season. If he can't be a reliable pass catcher, that's where we'll really feel Forte's absence.

Windy thanks

1) If we franchise tag Jeffrey what offer (draft pick (s)) would you accept to trade him? Tennessee or Cleveland 2nd rounder?

2) Do you think with his recent injury David Bruton is a bit of a risk in free agency? Any thoughts on Isa Abdul-Quddus? He's getting a reasonable amount of good press and would be cheaper than say someone Iloki.

3) Do you think Janoris Jenkins is worth $12m a season? Maybe to another team yes but for the Bears I don't. I'd rather go Jeremy Lane or perhaps Brandon Boykin to challenge Callahan and then try for William Jackson III in the draft to back up Porter and Fuller for 1 season.

If it was a choice between Jenkins or Jackson at $12m a season I am pretty sure I go Jackson. I'd rather have Trumaine Johnson at around $10m.

4) Mitchell Schwartz at $8m sounds interesting though likely more than we'd pay. If we'd be willing to spend roughly $5m on Allen to play RG we could simply move Long back to guard and have ourselves a top 10 RG/RT combo for the extra $3m. Sadly it doesn't seem Jason Spriggs falls to us in the 2nd round after his combine performance which I'd have liked.

Ian Williams (NT), Danny Trevathan (ILB), Isa Abdul-Quddus (S), Brandon Boykin (CB) and Mitchell Schwartz (RT) would work for me.

Dream draft: DeForest Buckner, William Jackson III, Kentrall Brothers, Denver Kirkland.

If Long moved back to RG then I'd go for a safety in the 4th if possible to increase the depth at the position as I'd release Rolle if we signed Abdul-Quddus.

I think we all need to assume 2 things

1. Kyle Long is playing OT and not moving back to OG.

2. Kyle Fuller is not moving to safety.

Yes, Janoris Jenkins is worth top CB money.

Is he a top CB? Not quite, but he is as close as you are going to see hit the open market.

CB is one of the positions I will happily spend. You can never have to many and you can never turn your back on a guy who can shadow top WRs and play man coverage.

Fair enough. If Sean Smith was $8m a season I think I'd take him (use the $4m elsewhere).

If we pick up a top tier CB in FA I guess the Bears don't bother to re-sign Porter or perhaps they do and he competes and probably beats out Callahan for the starting NB position and Callahan provides decent depth.

I guess that simply depends on Porter's price.

I wouldn't assume #1. Pace said they will determine that after free agency and he draft. He said the idea is to assemble the best collection of players and let it sort itself out.

Pace is just saying what everyone wants to hear. Imo, there is zero chance Long is moved back to guard, nor should he be.

You have to overpay in free agency if you want to get impact players. It is what is is.

And overpaying on a guy like Jenkins is completely different than breaking the bank on a guy like Suh or for instance, Miller or Wilkerson if they were going to hit the market.

We still have enough money to spread around and focus in other areas even of we give Jenkins quite a bit of money.

I'm also curious as to what Fangio and Donatell could do with a player like Jenkins and if he still has some room to grow in his technique/discipline.

John Clayton, on ESPN Chicago, with Carmen and Jurko, said he expects that Danny Trevathan will be a Bear early in free agency.

They were talking about it today, but the interview was from last week.

Well, I don't think he moves back to OG but I wouldn't completely rule it out. I'd say 65% chance he stays at RT, 20% he moves to LT, and 15% he moves back to RG.

This is why I really like Trevathan.

1. He fills the Bears biggest need.
2. He is a new NFL LB, which means he can play a bunch of different coverages.
3. The Bears coaches know him.

I believe most free agency signings that fail are because the team does not know the players actual injury history, their work ethic, and their personality.

The Bears know all that about Trevathan, there should be 0 surprises.

Been saying it since the start, it just makes too much sense for the Bears and Trevathan to unite. The only other option I could see is Oakland putting some big money on the table and Trevathan going and playing with his old DC.
