Sadly we wasted Taj's prime playing him behind Boozer. But at the same time, the depth he gave us at the time was thought to be important. Woulda coulda shoulda

Taj is the same player he's always been. I don't think we wasted his prime, we just always had better players than him and he's really more of a bench player anyway. He probably did have higher value a few years ago though. That to me is the real waste.

I've been open to trading Taj for a few seasons now, but after 25 games I'm finally on the trade Pau train as well. Idk who'd have interest in him though.
Taj's value is in the toilet. He's a middling PF and they're a dime a dozen in the league. I'm not sure who would be interested in Gasol but I'm fairly certain there would be at least a few teams with serious interest.

–A good trade partner would be the Pacers. They are in a serious playoff hunt and their one weakness in their lineup is a center. So, I’d trade Gasol and Snell to Indiana for their 2016 1st round pick and maybe somebody like Solomon Hill. Thoughts?

–As for Gibson, they should have traded him a while ago as his stock isn’t as high anymore, but a team will like him as a sixth man. I think a good trade partner would be a team like Milwaukee, who have multiple early 2016 2nd round picks. They might be willing to give up one of them for Taj, who fills a need behind Parker.

Division rivals rarely trade with each other when they're both in the playoff race.

Well, the Bulls aren't really truly in the playoff race and neither is Milwaukee. Both won't be in the Finals anytime soon.

Gibson doesn't really fix their center issues as he's not really a center and Solomon Hill sucks.

I suppose that's what I mean. Not like Gibson would've turned out like Paul Millsap if we had given him Boozer's playing time.

Taj would solve their depth at power forward behind Parker. I know Hill sucks, but you got to trade some salary back and he is on the final year on his contract. These moves are just some I made on my personal mock GM doc.

What you're saying is fair but I read it as basically "Portis is unproven. No one knows if he's going to be good." And yes, that would be correct. However, part of being a fan of basketball is projecting young players, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and analyzing their skill sets. I'm not saying Bobby is going to be a 5x all-star, but he's going to be a very, very good player and I wouldn't count out all-star appearances for him. Whereas Niko, I would be shocked if he ever made one.

I was never as high on Niko than a lot of other people. I certainly never saw him anywhere near a Dirk Nowitzki. The thing that troubles me about Niko is when I look at his game, I don't see one dominant or eye popping skill set. He shoots a decent percentage, is a respectable rebounder, decent defender, ok ball handler, not a great driver with the ball, and relatively soft. I just don't see anything he does very well. He's pretty good at a lot of things, and lacks that one "strength" you want to see.

As far as Snell goes, he never really "dominated" pre-season and he's another guy that just didn't jump out at you. He was always a spot up shooter with a decent ability to put the ball down, but lacks the fortitude. In short, I never saw anything from Tony Snell to get me overly excited. Your point is basically "Bobby is unproven and other guys have been a let down after fans were high on them." To that, I can't argue. I could only explain why I'm high on him and the rest will take care of itself.

20 points per game over the summer league had many super excited about his future. as far as portis goes, if you are that high on his game that's fine...just don't be shocked if it doesn't quite come to fruition as you may think. I see him as having a ceiling of a sixth man and more likely a decent role player off the bench, but that's just my opinion since we are projecting :)

Yep. Snell had a good SL, not pre-season. But yeah, thanks for telling me there's a chance I might not be right about Portis. Never occurred to me. Don't be surprised if he turns out better than a 6th man and turns into a starting caliber player : )

summer league is a form of pre season basketball  and I will absolutely be surprised if he borders along all star caliber as you seem to think he will :)

Lol....

Honestly, I think Bobby at the bare minimum, has a pretty high floor. I see his floor being as a productive starting caliber front court player. An efficient 14 ppg, 10 rpg, and good defense. At most, I could see him being an 18/11 type player and multiple all-star. Now, I'm not saying he reaches that, but even if he plays to his floor (in my estimation), that's pretty damned good. I see him somewhere in the middle.

his floor is 14 and 10 with good defense?? I don't see that at all. he could end up making those numbers but his floor is much lower than that, his floor is bust and out of the league in 2 - 3 years. to me his ceiling is a 15 and 8 kind of player, so we aren't toooo far off on our ceiling assessments at least :)

Fair enough. Out of curiosity, why do you think his floor as being a bust and out of the league in 2-3 years? Is it just because he's a rookie and technically, that's a possibility for every draft pick, or is it more something you've seen watching in college and since he's been drafted? I guess it's not unheard of, but it's relatively rare a 1st pick doesn't at least get a 2nd contract after his rookie deal, yet alone not even finishing his rookie deal.

maybe that was a bit harsh, his floor he may even still get a 2nd contract to be a bench player...4th big man in the rotation kind of thing. I have questions about his size and position that he can be effective at. I worry that he thinks he has the game of a shooting guard. and then theres just the overall adjustment to the pro game that he has yet to really truly experience(thru no fault of his own). can he handle true NBA bigs defensively, that's not an easy thing to get used to....at Arkansas most the time he was one of the biggest guys on the court if not the biggest...in the nba that will not be the case ever for him. some bigs cant get used to that and aren't used to getting pushed around some for a change....so we will see how he reacts to that. don't get me wrong, I would love for him to shock me and prove me wrong by becoming a stud...I just doubt thatll be the case ever

I will just say this: Thanks for actually breaking down specifics and running through your thought process. We may disagree on it, but at least you explained yourself and not only acknowledged by question, but answered it. There's some people on here that could learn from this.

Bobby was mocked as a lottery pick and Snell a 2nd round pick until the day of the draft iirc plus they are totally different with their approach. its hard not seeing Bobby alteast being a decent rotational player in this league.

anything further than that he'll have to prove
